THE De La Salle University Green Archers snapped the National University Bulldogs’ six-game winning streak with a 57-55 win in the second round of UAAP Season 76 men’s basketball on Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Jeron Teng posted 21 points including the go-ahead putback with 44.1 seconds remaining in the game as the Green Archers created a three-way tie with NU and Far Eastern University in the first to third spot with an identical 9-4 win-loss card each.

“I just did the right thing inside. I missed my shot and l tried my best to get the offensive rebound and then putback the shot,” said Teng.

Teng made it a 56-55 game for a La Salle lead after scoring on a putback on his own missed shot. That putback also marked his seventh and most important rebound in the game. The Bulldogs couldn’t convert in their next possession. LA Revilla split his free throws to provide La Salle a two-point lead and the Bulldogs failed to score in their last possession of the game as Rayray Parks’ threw up an airball as the buzzer expired.

With La Salle’s win, the Green Archers automatically clinched a Final Four spot and left rivals Ateneo de Manila University and University of Santo Tomas to grind it out for the last Final Four berth.

“We just have to be mentally tougher into the second round because most teams are trying their best to beat us,” said La Salle mentor Juno Sauler. “We’re happy that we returned here in the Final Four. We just have to sustain our effort there.”

Freshman Jason Perkins who had a monster game during their last outing against AdMU, registered 18 points and 10 rebounds for La Salle.

Two-time MVP Rayray Parks had 19 points for the Bulldogs.
