He is definitely back for another ride.
For this reboot, Michael Christopher “Topex” Robinson revealed that San Sebastian’s college basketball program is clearly on “rebuilding mode” as they gear up for NCAA Season 89.
Although no formal agreement has been made between between him and San Sebastian management, both have agreed in principle that he would coach this once fabled and proud institution this season, “In fact, we’ve been holding team practices since last week”, said Robinson. “Most of the players have gone already so it’s rebuilding time.”
Despite the exit of Calvin Abueva and Ronald Pascual, including the exodus of NCAA 88th season MVP Ian Sangalang, Dexter Maiquez and Michael Miranda from this year’s line-up, Robinson is confident that with the right blend of players, this team can still compete on a high level even with veterans Jovit dela Cruz, Raffy Gusi, Mark Trinidad, Paulino Rebullos and Bobby Balucanag at his disposal.
“Currently, my pool will be those 5 guys plus those incoming freshmen from our high-school team and our reserve team”, he added. “I believe with the right players we can still be competitive”.
Under Robinson’s tutelage, San Sebastian made it to the NCAA Finals in Season 87 and has won the Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL) crown in 2011 against then UAAP 5-time championship aspirants, the Ateneo Blue Eagles.
San Sebastian entered the Final Four in Season 88, but were eliminated by the Letran Knights despite their twice-to-beat advantage in the semifinal round.
