After a single championship season, Ronnie Magsanoc verbally tendered his official resignation as head coach last December 15 in front of his beloved Red Lions and will be replaced by Veteran PBA mentor, Meralco Bolts Assistant and team consultant, Teodorico “Boyet” Fernandez III effective immediately.
Reasons for his prompt departure from the Red Lions den cannot be declassified by Inboundpass as of this time.
Magsanoc has guided San Beda thru an 18-4 Season 88 record and its 17th Championship, making the only founding member of the oldest running Collegiate Basketball Association in the country the winningest team in league history.
“It’s been a great run, I really enjoyed my time with San Beda”, said Magsanoc in a personal interview with Inboundpass weeks before stepping down as mentor of the NCAA Defending Champions.
His successor is very familiar with the territory and the task at hand. As Head Coach of the Sta. Lucia Realtors in 2007 to 2010, Fernandez led the defunct PBA franchise to the Philippine Cup title in the 2007-2008 Season.
After his stint in the pros, Fernandez mentored the UP Fighting Maroons to a 0-12 record in Season 73. He is currently the Head Coach of the NLEX Road Warriors in the PBA Developmental League.
Aside from Fernandez, former Blue Eagles Assistant, Blue Eaglets Head Coach and Talk and Text Assistant, Jamike Jarin, has also been considered for the position.
