After a single championship season, Ronnie Magsanoc verbally tendered his official resignation as head coach last December 15 in front of his beloved Red Lions and will be replaced by Veteran PBA mentor, Meralco Bolts Assistant and team consultant, Teodorico “Boyet” Fernandez III effective immediately.

Reasons for his prompt departure from the Red Lions den cannot be declassified by Inboundpass as of this time.

Magsanoc has guided San Beda thru an 18-4 Season 88 record and its 17th Championship, making the only founding member of the oldest running Collegiate Basketball Association in the country the winningest team in league history.

“It’s been a great run, I really enjoyed my time with San Beda”, said Magsanoc in a personal interview with Inboundpass weeks before stepping down as mentor of the NCAA Defending Champions.

His successor is very familiar with the territory and the task at hand. As Head Coach of the Sta. Lucia Realtors in 2007 to 2010, Fernandez led the defunct PBA franchise to the Philippine Cup title in the 2007-2008 Season.

After his stint in the pros, Fernandez mentored the UP Fighting Maroons to a 0-12 record in Season 73. He is currently the Head Coach of the NLEX Road Warriors in the PBA Developmental League.

Aside from Fernandez, former Blue Eagles Assistant, Blue Eaglets Head Coach and Talk and Text Assistant, Jamike Jarin, has also been considered for the position.

Mike Abasolo “Reasons for his prompt departure from the Red Lions den cannot be declassified by Inboundpass as of this time.” Mike, does this mean that you know the reason/s but you just can’t reveal? Will you at a later date? Bkit nga ba talaga, that’s what your readers want to know?

Welcome Coach Boyet. Give it your best shot. Our boys have the desire to be champions again. Guide them well. Animo Boyet Fernandez. Anomo San Beda.

  • Mike Abasolo says:

    Hi Rommel,

I know but its an agreement myself and Coach Magsanoc had made. In time, i will disclose.

I heard somewhere, Frankie Lim is no longer in benefactor MVP’s good graces. Lim is tampo daw at MVP for his lack of support during the mugging of the Stags’ WVBT. Another reason for the tampo daw eh is wala man lang maioffer na trabaho si MVP kay Lim, eh suspended na nga yung tao nang dalawang taon. Another is there is a growing feud between Frankie Lim and Gilas 2.0 coach Chot Reyes, and MVP chose to side with the bigger name.

Congratulations to the new head coach of the San Beda Red Lions. Coach Boyet Fernandez!

    God speed coach Fernandez!

  • CPM says:

    Hi Mike,

Will Coach Boyet retain the assistant coaches of CRM?

  • DP/Fedex says:

I hope the whole San Beda community will embrace the new coach and let him feel that he is welcome. I honestly think that he was the best choice to take the place of coach ronnie magsanoc as he more or less will have the same basketball principle as coach Ronnie. Again at this early stage let us remain calm and see what Coach Boyet Fernandez has to offer for the Red Lions. Let us just appreciate and support him all the way. For Coach Ronnie Magsanoc good luck on your future endeavors and thank you so much, it was indeed a great ride you coaching the RED LIONS. You and coach Banal and coach Frankie Lim have done a great job in establishing a winning tradition that cannot be equaled for a long time. GO SAN BEDA FIGHT ALL THE WAY.

    • Bedan Jalapeño says:

If Boyet continues the slow set plays waiting for 8 seconds to complete a play, we will loose most of the games. This principle will force the shot at less than 1 or 2 seconds to go thus making it the “best” worst shot ever.

I hope Boyet knows this and runs the past winning ways. Having said that, CBF wear a Bedan heart on your sleeves. All the best CBF!!!
