Bong Ramos and Jack Santiago, who are both current assistant coaches for different teams in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), may soon be tapped as a collegiate head coach.
Only one of them will be chosen to succeed Chito Victolero, who resigned as head coach of the Mapua Cardinals after placing seventh in the 88th National Collegiate Athletic Association senior basketball.
“There are coaches, who played for Mapua before, have submitted application,” said the source who requested not to be named. “Bong Ramos could be tapped to replace Victolero but anything depends on the management.”
Santiago, who currently works as assistant coach to Franz Pumaren in Air21 Express in the PBA, and Ramos, who serves as assistant to coach Junel Baculi in Barako Bull, didn’t make any comment.
The Mapua reliable source also said that former Mapua mentor Horacio Lim and Yong Garcia, Victolero’s assistant, have also submitted their resume to become Victolero’s replacement.
“So far on November 17, we will have an idea who will be the next Mapua coach,” said the source. “But right now, there’s no formal announcement yet.”
