  Wow. UST actually had better ball handling, bench scoring, rebounds, second chance points and perimeter scoring. On all the other stats, they kept toe to toe with Ateneo, who only had a slight edge in FT attempts, assists and starter scoring. Ateneo had better inside scoring percentages but UST’s offensive rebounding negated that.

  Ateneo’s huge lead was in FTs. They made more free throws than UST took attempts. It didn’t help that UST only converted 41%. Ateneo took 8 more attempts,which isn’t much when you consider that the last two came from a deliberate foul from UST to send Juami Tiongson to the line. Before that point, Ateneo had 18/23 to UST’s 7/17.

  It was really ANYBODY’s ball game and the breaks just went Ateneo’s way in the clutch. That Abdul slip, and Tiongson’s steal. Fortuna really kept them in the game.

        ^ And that was the biggest contention against every team we play. We shoot above 70% and they, for the better, roughly around 60-65%

        There is no way of saying because there is no coach yet, and the line up is far from being finalized.

        I would rather wait and have a dejado attitude.

        BUT, let me say this: if ADMU reaches the FINAL 4, the core of the Coaching Staff remains, and Ravena, Buenafe, Erram, Tiongson, Elorde, Newsome are healthy, and Pessumal is fully operational, 6 will become a reality. They will not allow this opportunity to slip from them.

          The 2013 lineup is actually more talented than the 2010 lineup who bagged the grandslam. In the 2010 lineup, Buenafe and Salva were the inconsistent main men. In 2013, we will have a more mature Buenafe and Tiongson, an MVP in Ravena, a solid sixth man in Newsome and a better all around center than Chua/Golla combined in Erram. The main weakness is the 2010 lineup still had a Norman Black and an MVP. So the replacement coach has to immediately step in and the other alumni have to act as well.

          So yes, a 6 peat is a possibility.

          Let us assume that they are more talented(2013) but 2010 played as a team long enough. By then, the core group have had championship experiences for 2 years plus some more in High School.

          If maybe they, 2013, start playing together as early as the PCCL… They need to develop the frontline fast…

  If Ateneo made all of its 25 freethrows and ust made all of its 17 freethrows. It would have been a tied game.

  Because of their Off Rebounds and 2nd chance points UST kept the game close, but that freethrow shooting really flunked them out. Well, for ADMU their Points in the paint is a real advantage for having good big men who can out-maneuver defenders on the post. One big example? That one strong backdown by Slaughter against Karim who was helpless until the big guy gets under the basket. Brute strength plus good footwork.

      Sometimes, it is wise to make an adversary think that he is really good, even better; Black did that with Pido.

      Slaughter had to take risks at the right time. He had a warning against him.

        Tsaka talagang bata pa si Slaughter, laid-back attitude. I imagine if he plays aggressive and full of passion like Salva, I think he’ll be the most dominant ever.
