FilOil 2012: Golden Stags grab 1st win, DLSU on a roll

The San Sebastian Golden Stags finally got one, thanks to the brute force of the beast, Calvin Abueva , who scored 14 of his 29 points in the 2nd half to will his team to victory over the Adamson Falcons, 78-68.

After a 63-all tie with less than 5 minutes left in the 4th quarter, the Falcons were suddenly in a bind in the final moments of the game starring at an 8-point deficit, 74-66 with less than 2 minutes left.

After leading all scorers, Abueva also hauled in 15 rebounds to go with his team total of 49 rebounds  against Adamson’s 36 rebounds.

Ian Sangalang had an impressive performance with 16-points 14 rebounds followed closely by Dexter Maiquez with 15-points.

The Falcons were led by Roider Cabrera with 19-points with a 4 of 9 shooting from the 3-point area followed by Jericho Cruz with 13-points, Rodney Brondial with 12-points and 6 rebounds then Ryan Monteclaro with 10-points.

The Golden Stags are now 1-2 while the Falcons have dropped to 2-2 in Group B.

In the 2nd game, the De La Salle Green Archers are on a roll, defeating the UP Fighting Maroons, 64-50, to improve to 3-1 in Group A of the preseason tournament.

Jovet Mendoza led De La Salle with 13-points and 9 rebounds followed by Almond Vosotros also with 13-points and Norbert Torres with 11-points and 10 rebounds.  Chris Ball had 10-points for the Fighting Maroons.

De La Salle scored better from the field with 49% while the Fighting Maroons had a bad hair day with 27%.  Also, the Green Archers out-rebounded UP 39-22.   UP has dropped to 1-4 in Group A.

    Sa kangkungan ulit pupulutin ang UP sa darating na UAAP. Nagbabadyang winless season

    dikit na dikit ang laban ng baste at adamson kanina, muntik ng manalo ang adamson, buti nalang bumuga ng todo si abueva sa 4rth quarter

    sayang effort ni cabrera sa game na to,he now plays 4 or 5 kaya meron/madami siyang mga open shots kasi hindi maka sunod sa kanya ang center ng opposite team..this will give opportunities to nuyles and cruz to drive to the basket kapag nag adjust ang depensa kay cabrera..i still hope that manyara will comeback though..

    Last sat, bumisita ako adu, wala sa practice si manyara. May nagsabi na wala na “DAW” sa team. Academic problems daw.

    The games these days are interesting. Always or more often than not, there is a side show and players are thrown out of the court. Oh my gosh! Is it the heat of the season?

      I watched the game live at The Arena yesterday and while I am happy with our team winning big over UP, I couldn’t help but wonder: Mga kaladkarin at kanto boys ba talaga kung umasta ang players at coaches ng UP, especially that Padilla guy at their head coach Dandan? Hayop kung saktan ang players namin, buti na lang hindi nasindak at marunong lumaban ang Archers, especially Mendoza, Vosotros, Thomas Torres and Gotladera. Hindi mananalo ang UP sa matinong laro kaya dinadaan nila sa larong kalye at asal kalye.
