ATENEO de Manila University will get a chance to defend its Philippine Collegiate Champions League crown.

The back-to-back national champions and reigning four-time UAAP titleholders advanced to the Finals of this year’s PCCL with a 76-63 victory over the two-time NCAA victors San Beda College in the final game of the round-robin Final Four last December 9, at the Arena in San Juan.

“Once again, our defense held up, something that did not happen against San Sebastian. As long as our defense holds up, we have a chance to win,” said Ateneo head coach Norman Black.

In a game Black described as “not very pretty, particularly in the end,” the beginning was actually no better as the Red Lions zoomed out to a 7-0 start. The quick deficit served to wake up the Blue Eagles, though, as they countered with a 15-2 run, snatching the lead away from San Beda for good, 15-9, behind Greg Slaughter and Nico Salva.

Six more unanswered from a Kiefer Ravena-led second unit gave Ateneo its first double-digit lead, 29-19, forcing San Beda to call for time with 7:43 left in the second. Though it got a quick five points out of it, Ateneo came back to create enough separation, 37-28 entering the break. The Blue Eagles then unleashed another huge run out of halftime, zooming out to their biggest advantage, 47-31, all courtesy of Slaughter and Salva. The Red Lions countered with the fiery shooting of Mar Villahermosa, who almost single-handedly kept San Beda in the game. His split at the line trimmed the gap to 51-44 late in the third.

Unfortunately for San Beda, the Blue Eagles halted all their attempts to eat into the deficit, with Ravena’s scoring prowess proving to be the key. An and-one play by Tonino Gonzaga, off a Slaughter assist, upped the lead back to 68-55 with 4:32 remaining. A charity by Dave Marcelo and a transition score by Rome de la Rosa brought the lead back down to 10 once more before the troika of Ravena, Slaughter and Salva each scored a field goal that padded the advantage to 74-58, a big enough gap with 1:24 left on the clock. Some sloppy turnovers by Ateneo allowed San Beda to score a quick five points. But with 27.4 seconds left, a Kirk Long steal led to a run-out by Nico Salva, who flushed the ball down the hoop for the capper.

Slaughter led the Blue Eagles with 20 points and eight rebounds. Assuming the point guard position again, Ravena tallied 18 points, three boards and four dimes. UAAP Finals MVP Salva added 17 and eight. After combining for a single point in the fourth quarter versus San Sebastian, Ateneo’s three best players accounted for 16 in the final period, quashing the possibility of a last-minute rally by San Beda.

Ateneo very nearly had a monkey wrech thrown into their plans of a third straight title as the team assembled piecemeal due to the poor weather outside. With just an hour left before the 4 p.m. tipoff, barely half the team had made it to the venue. “We had half the team come in late today because of the rain and traffic and I was a little bit concerned about who was going to be part of the starting five,” admitted Black, who himself arrived just 25 minutes before the start of the game. Luckily though, only Bacon Austria was significantly delayed, arriving at the start of the second quarter. Emman Monfort missed the game entirely due to PBA D-League commitments.

Villahermosa had a game-best 21 markers, 10 coming in the third quarter, for the depleted Red and White. De la Rosa added 14 while Marcelo, who played alongside most of the Blue Eagles in that victorious Southeast Asian Games team, had seven and three boards. Many expected 2010 NCAA MVP Sudan Daniel to finally get onto the court to match up against Slaughter, but the American was in civilian wear on the sideline, as was Jake Pascual (stomach ailment) and Garvo Lanete (shoulder).

With the victory, Ateneo advanced to the finals against the San Sebastian College-Recoletos Stags, who possess a twice-to-beat advantage. It’s actually familiar territory for the Eagles, who were down 1-0 against the FEU Tamaraws and the Adamson Falcons respectively, in the last two PCCL Finals before taking the crown on both occassions. That game will take place on Monday, December 12 at 4 p.m.

The Red Lions will also play for third place on that same day, at 2 p.m., against the University of Cebu Webmasters, whom they dispatched earlier in the Final Four, 83-77.

The scores:

Ateneo 76 – Slaughter 20, Ravena 18, Salva 17, Chua 6, Gonzaga 5, Austria 4, Long 4, Tiongson 2, Golla 0, Pessumal 0, Capacio 0, Erram 0

San Beda 63 – Villahermosa 21, de la Rosa 14, Marcelo 7, Pascual 6, Amer 6, Lim 5, Caram 4, Sorela 0, Koga 0, Pontejos 0

Quarter scoring: 23-19, 37-28, 55-44, 76-63

bute na langs petik muna kami kung endi knockout laht kayo hihihi huhuhu

@JakePasma , I will say it again, we will get them NEXT YEAR. :-)

    Fifth consecutive finals appearance :D

  • SCD says:

so what’s surprising about this win? expected naman na matatalo ang SBC. it’d have been a surprise kung natalo ang adm.

  • SCD says:

bet you, mag-chachampion adm o. lol. tignan nyo ha.

  • Spinning Back Fist says:

Sana sa Monday, may blue babble battalion na, cause I will try to watch live =)

  • fortuneteller says:

nice game, but lacks the intensity of an ncaa game nor the savagery of sscr vs sbc vs csjl games. it’s white collar finesse vs blue collar physicality on monday. it looks like a toss up.

  • Spinning Back Fist says:

I seriously that the UAAP rules prohibit the entry/arrival of the Semerad twins. Karma WILL get them, and I hope that the Ateneo will not be a part of it.

    • JakePasma says:

masisisi mo ba sila kung gusto nila ng mas magandang basket ball program at quality of education? i read an article regarding this and the Semerad’s said they stopped learning from SBC’s basketball system after their first year… based on what they said i am not surprised why baser amer stil is a noted 6th man while keifer ravena is now slowly becoming a superstar.

      • SCD says:

      • pitch says:

not everything you read is the truth.. just a script

      • Raven says:

Problema sa iyo Jake eh puro haka haka alam mo. yun kambal eh gusto lang mag artista na at ginagamit na lang ang eskwela para ma sabing player sila. sarap nga naman mag partee partee. yun 2 year residency bibigyan lang sila ng status na ateneo sila pero showbiz lang habol, branding or image na lang habol nila. mas madali na pera sa showbiz. no long hours in practice etc. easy money.

nag regress daw–really, diba mas mag reregress ka pag sit out mo 2 yrs and play 1 yr? malayo na sa plano nila bball. kawawa lang ateneo na kumgat. at si paolo trillo ang lumapit kasi ala nang recruit si norman para sa 2013. na isip ni kups trillo na imbes mag la salle eh, kumg umalis na sa sbc yun kambal eh, mas mabuti na mag punta ng admu. si paolo asawa eh model, ka sosyal circle ni backless na arnold. any media mileage na ma kuha ng twins bonus yun good news or bad, sa showbiz its all same same.

        • Z says:

        • nyaks says:

Wow. You’re no different from the masses who think the escape from poverty is through game shows. Buti nalang talaga walang nag SBC sa angkan ko.

      • Z says:

i don’t want the twins on my team or in the backyard that i love known as the Loyola Schools. look at it this way, won’t they regress more by sitting out two years then getting buried behind the emergence of Pessumal, Capacio, the subsequent superstardom of Ravena, the incomingentry of Aaron Black and Thirdy Ravena and Jay Javellosa? kung durugan sa durugan, papaiyakin lang sila ni buenafe alone sa practice. they even demanded the positions of salva and buenafe. swerte sila kasi in two years time, wala na yung dinemandahan ng posisyon at hindi na makakabawi sa kanila. but oh wait, they’d be contending the young guns who’ll be more of a professional than them. there’s one thing i can be proud of off the ones who chose to stay in their respective schools, through thick and thin: loyalty. that’s one the twins don’t have as well as their agent.

        • Z says:

          incoming entry*

        • banned says:

bro z, jay javelosa is currently with reedley right?

          • Z says:

yeah. apparently he transferred prior to the new school year. my bad for not finding that out sir B.

          • banned says:

sayang naman. how will he develop there? i coached against reedley before and they really don’t have a good basketball program. if you remember, i was all praises for this kid after i saw him play at the pccl juniors exhibition game last year and you told me that he was still just a freshman then. sayang naman talent nya kung sa reedley lang maglalaro.

        • wobbegonglover says:

so how about greg slaughter? :)

        • wobbegonglover says:

No no sir Z. Since you mentioned loyalty, I want to ask you about Slaughter’s case? didn’t he play for UV before he wore the blue and white? If loyalty’s really an issue then why don’t you question the intention of greg? Didn’t greg deliver trophies to his former school, just like the semerads. So why now do you question/condemn the twins’ decision to defect and it seems that greg didn’t get the same treatment, considering that the two cases are similar.

        • wobbegonglover says:

still, the question about loyalty remains right? what happened to “…there’s one thing i can be proud of off the ones who chose to stay in their respective schools, through thick and thin: loyalty.” Again, if loyalty is indeed an issue then why didn’t the ateneo community reacted when greg started to play with the blue and white? whether the transfer is legal, legit , illegal, moral, immoral or whatsoever is out of the question. You said it yourself, it’s about loyalty it’s about sticking with your alma mater through thick and thin right?. It’s not about the legality of the move. BTW, congratulations on your win earlier. the stags had a legit chance, had calvin behaved properly.

          • Escudo says:

Pardon my intrusion, but I guess Greg’s case was he left with consent and permission from the school so in a sense there is loyalty to the school since he did not turn his back. But rather sought a way out, done in a “professional” manner, for career advancement. Unlike the Twins who left with nary a word up until a declaration was sent that they jumped ship. They just didn’t show up after the Monday and Tuesday practice. Absent Wed, Thurs and then by Friday news came that they moved.

            There lies the huge difference.

If the twins said to the Bedan community; “Its a career decision for us to transfer and we have decided to move on”. I don’t think the Bedan community will raise any brow since its a career decision.

          • Z says:

and Sir E hit the point. leaving with consent is one thing. leaving without, that’s a whole different ballgame son.

        • wobbegonglover says:

No problem sir Escudo, I guess everyone can discuss anything about college ball here with anyone =)

How can you be loyal when you leave your school in thin air? The manner is really irrelevant sirs, because the end result is still the same. Greg and the twins defected. Now, are you telling me that because “nagpaalam” si greg e may loyalty pa din sya? I think sir Z made his stand regarding loyalty pretty clear. Didn’t he say that there’s something about sticking to your school (original alma mater) through thick and thin. Greg left UV, the twins left SBC, where’s loaylty in that? Greg may have done it in a gentlemanly manner and the twins may have done it ala showbiz, but the three of them left. I wouldn’t call that loyalty. I think sir Escudo you’re mixing loyalty with respect. Sure, greg does respect UV for him to man up and admit that he needed to transfer to Ateneo to further his goal, and the semerads did exactly the opposite of that, the twins just vanished without trace. But if we stick to what sir Z said about loyalty then i guess, IMHO, greg, david and anthony are of the same breed. They are good/great players but lacks in loyalty.

          • Escudo says:

            wobbegonglover

I still think that apart from respect GS had loyalty for at that moment those two qualities were inseparable. Well its a matter of perspective and how one defines loyalty, but there is no such thing as partial loyalty. It’s either you had none or you have. IMHO

          • wobbegonglover says:

Yup, I agree on your take with loyalty. That’s why I think that the the three of them are basically the same. Yup, but you’re right, well at least slaughter had the decency to inform his former school of his transfer. cheers!

      • ikaw na says:

magcocomment ka lang jakepasma siguraduhin mong nasa tamang hulog. ang alam mo lang kasi magcomment base lang sa nababasa mo kung saan saan. so naive.

    • Z says:

apparently for once, i will agree with TIDR.

  • jaypee says:

Ateneo’s admission/Pirating of Semerads Twin is a proof of How Desperate ateneo is to retain it’s basketball championship ring and finally break the All time Record that UE Made. 7 consecutive championship…. Good luck sa lahat nang gustong mag try…

    • obf says:

semerad twins ang lumapit, di ateneo ang naghakot.

      • Raven says:

mali ka obf. basahin ang itaas na katotohanan.

        • Z says:

ikaw ang mali piolo. tama si OBF. pag ipilit mo pa, you’ll only look like an imbecile amigo.

          • Escudo says:

And besides ADMU will only take then if they repeat the freshman year. That’s assuming they they enter for academic purposes only. Throw away three years of education for showbiz?

Talagang di ko ma get logic ng agent. I can only surmise that was how impulsive the decision of the twins and agent was. Very little or no fact to go around with prior to jumping overboard.

        • Red Rampant says:

Raven, looks like you know a lot based on what you read. If an article says you should jump off a bulding and your team will win, then you will???

    • SCD says:

in fairness…oo, sila ang lumapit sa adm.

    • fortuneteller says:

have the twins enrolled sa ateneo? i thought ateneo rejected them and are now scouting for other teams willing to pay for their services. so they are now with the blue eagles again?

      • Madz says:

di pa sila makakaenroll, kalagitnaan ng sem. maghihintay pa sila.

        • Red Rampant says:

They are enrolled already. An alumnus from batch 05′ helped them out. It was an enrollment for education not as student athlete. The twins are still on the process of paving thru the nest.

      • coybits says:

they’re scheduled to take the ACET in January

      • mav says:

good luck sa twins on taking the ACET, the exams were made and not really meant to be finished. I’m sure it’ll be a guessing game exam for those two LOL!

        • Z says:

it can be finished though sir mav. haha. seeing that they are aussies, crikey! they must have bought their shotguns for the hunting in the exams! LMAO

          • mav says:

you watching the game tom Z? I wanted sana for the NCAA to win this but my loyalty belongs to Loyola. Anyways if it’s good basketball whatever happens kudos to both schools. Sayang lang my RLs really, no chance for us to make it bec of depleted line up.

            OBF!

          • Z says:

hopefully. my schedule is iffy at best. i have faith in the boys ofc. haha.

    • Z says:

ako sa totoo lang, napipikon ako sa mga patutsadang ganyan. kasi ang katotohanan, ANG KAMBAL ANG NAGMAMAKA-AWA SA ATENEO PARA ISUOT YUNG JERSEY NAMIN. we can surely make do without the twins. sino ba sila sa akala nila? our grassroots program is strong and can yield for us a slew of players that other schools would try to grab, similar to the San Beda system. while the Red Cubs, as an institution, is already established in producing young greats, our own is getting there, and from there, we can get our own players from our own backyard. kuha mo piolo?

      • Escudo says:

Z, hindi na nganganak si piolo pero dumadami sila…haha!!!

      • Red Rampant says:

Z an Ateneo alumnus from batch 05′ helped them out for the enrollement process. The twins are the ones pushing in. Even nga sa education na lang then agreed to talk about the student athlete program.

      • bystander says:

Z, I actually agree with you. It was the twins’ manager who sought out Ateneo, not the other way around. Maybe, this was the only way the twins could “save face” after being reprimanded by SBC coaching staff for prioritizing their showbiz deals over basketball practice.

Problem with the manager is that he knows little about the realities of collegiate basketball. All this sh** about not getting the right “development” kuno…well, not only will the twins have to sit out the next two years but by the looks of it, they aren’t even sure if Coach Norman would need them in 2013! Ergo, the transfer might actually backfire on the twins, that is if basketball and not showbiz is really what they’re after.

  • r3xleo says:

as expected. somewhat disappointed again with Baser. he should realize w/o Gabo, Jake and the twins, he should play a bigger role in the team. prang takot siya magkamali. just play your game kid. the reason why ravena is still successful, kung ano yung game niya sa juniors, dinala niya lang sa seniors. halos walang nagbago. but i still beliv in you hammer. dont be afraid to commit mistakes, enjoy the game. isipin mo nuong nasa red cubs ka pa. your opponents are at your mercy. you are so potent dahil sa passing skills mo. you can control the game even if you are not scoring heavily. sad to say, masyado ka nang napag iwanan ni kiefer. and norman black is contemplating to make him his pg next uaap season which will make his numbers more mind boggling. practice your shooting, lose some weight, be confident in your skills, strengthen your upper body.

    • ikaw na says:

i think ang hindi mo mapleplease is yung mga taong PBA mentality. sobrang magkaiba ang playing style ni amer and ravena. ravena is the typical pba material. undersize guard who can shoot big numbers. while amer is a natural point guard who create good plays for this teammates. amer if given the green signal by coach lim. imagine triple-double stats for a rookie.

  • fortuneteller says:

i was not a big fan of ravena for never followed uaap juniors. after seeing him play in seniors uaap, phil team to asean games, and the pccl, the monicker phenom is most apt. amer while good isn’t in the class as ravena. after one more season in the uaap, he can already play in the pba. but good for ateneo, he wont be age eligible to join the pros.

    • SCD says:

there might be some truth to that. but ravena doesn’t have the misfortune of having to play brawlers. amer was awesome during the NC finals. especially in game 1. what did he get? smacks on the face, not once, not twice, but thrice! not to mention the not so obvious ones.

i wonder how your ravena will cope with that? :)

      • Z says:

tbh, minamama si kiefer ng adamson while baser was unflappable even being hit hard by abueva alot during the pick collisions. each to his own. that much i respect. however, the other fans… meh.

  • SCD says:

as a follow-up, what’s to keep people from speculating how baser will do in the UA, considering that it is a “finesse” league? hehe

    • kablam says:

finesse league? no. its just that people know how to rotate the ball more, steal and block shots using hands towards the game ball and take less “karpintero” shots (because in the UAAP, we want to take the best available options to convert points.) That’s why there are less collisions and less fouls. :)

  • SCD says:

give the boy (baser) a chance. baser and ravena will finish their college basketball careers at the same time. 4 years to go. who do you think will be the tougher and better player at the end of those four years? hihihi huhuhu

  • SCD says:

2 different players, 2 different styles, 2 different leagues, 2 different circumstances. don’t you think it’s time you did some re-thinking?

    • fortuneteller says:

nope. ravena is leaps and bounds better than your boy.

    • britt reid says:

In games where they played against each other, the phenom showed he played better ball than baser. Maybe, he is not developing under frankie lim’s system, as the semerads’ reason for leaving daw. No doubt black knows how to bring out the best in a player. Look at slaughter who used to be a flat footed bumbling butter fingered tall man, now a force to reckon with. All in one year under black. Imagine if junmar fajardo was under norman’s wings.

      • britt reid says:

This is why, if the semerads are really with the eagles, they will be an explosive force in the uaap 2 yeras from now. Even a 2 year hiatus will not cause a deterioration if black is there to improve their skills, which as is, is already above average.

        • SCD says:

b.r., then by all means, take them. after what they’ve done, they’re certainly out of SBC anyway. they’re your problem now. lol!

      • Z says:

junmar fajardo was already a wrecking crew last year man. he already had the footwork, hands and soft touch for a 6’10″ guy. as for baser and kiefer, they are different. one is a born scorer while the other likes to eat up oppsing pgs either through out-rebounding them and finding players that are rather impossible to spot. imagine having both in one team. baser will rack up assists while kiefer will be munching on the opposing guards scoring at will since baser knows where to feed him the ball.

        • kablam says:

Amer is a Rondo. Kiefer is a Kobe. Both are superstars but there is a clear distinction on who’s better and more valuable.

          • Z says:

it’s a stretch saying that. amer can rip up a triple double anytime he wants. and kiefer, while he has high basketball IQ, his main thing is to score since he is an offensive option. amer has skills. he wouldn’t be one of the top 2 high school ballers in his class if he didn’t. you’re just not appreciating fully what each can offer a basketball team.

      • banned says:

britt, how come frank the tank is still like that? how about former juniors mvp bacon, big improvement under coach norman no?

i have no doubts with coach norman’s capabilities to develop players, esp big men but as z said, to each his own. nasa player din yan.

oh and btw, how baser started the season and how he ended it are polar opposites. how’s that for development? how about big daddy dave the travelling machine? you like his footwork now? how about a supposed flop that became an mvp the following year? shall i go on?

        • fortuneteller says:

dave was never a flop. he proved that in the juniors. no doubt black is a great devloper. as for frankie the hothead i have doubts. sayang if baser develops into an ogie menor who probably imbibed the attitude oh his college coach. ilan na ba nag binalya at sinahod niyan sa pba. he almost ended the rising career of paul lee. just ask yeng guiao.

          • red guard says:

yeng guiao? yeng guiao is your source, the most fined coach of he pba plus weren’t his teams always known as being manglers on the court.Wasnt playing dirty par for the course under guiao. I remember Penisi under Guiao crippled that fil-am player with that under move. forgot his name and team but wasn’t that guy crippled for life. and there are other incidents.

          • Z says:

eugene tejada red guard. aside from that, look at the extra rice club that guiao employs with beau belga and quinahan, durugan sa loob, walang pito si zebra. maybe, ogie menor should’ve been under him. no offense but menor is being a thug out there.

          • Spinning Back Fist says:

            @ Z,
Historically, sa sistema ni coach Franz Pumaren, year in year out, palaging may enforcer, or the better word is “tirador”. Amazing physical defenders and outstanding trash talkers. Don’t blame the player. Blame the coach.

          • banned says:

coach norman is a great developer nga but can you explain bakit nga si frank and bacon ganun pa din laro?

          • Escudo says:

            @fortuneteller,

Can you elaborate on the rookie year of Dave at the Red Lions? If you so know and claim that he didnt flop then.

          • kablam says:

            @banned

Bakon is a natural Power Forward who is forced to play Guard.
Frank is a natural Center who is forced to play Power Forward mostly only to give screens and bug opposing big men because there is a need to. (Proof: Kirk Long was expected to score during his first years but he got transformed into becoming the league’s best on-ball defender because there was a need to.)

Slaughter, Rabeh and all the other guys are in their right positions, which made it easy for Norman to develop.

        • britt reid says:

are you kidding? who said dave was a flop? it’s just that lim did not use or “develop” him as much so he languished under the shadows of ekwe and daniels. i doubt he would be mvp if su suited up. under NB, marcelo would have been developed along the lines of kramer (a so-so player initially), rabeh (who became a compleat big man) and even ford arao (previously the comic relief center of the eagles).

          • red guard says:

If i remember right ADMU wasnt keen on Big Dave when he graduated from HS. the coaching staff considered him slow footed.just saying

          • Z says:

no. we took vince fran. remember the nike camp for high school players then? big D and vince fran were the best high school bigs or so they said. look where vince fran is now.

          • banned says:

britt, you and fortuneteller are the same person no? why the need to have 2 id’s?

sudan is the supposed flop who worked his @ss off and won the mvp the following year. wasn’t referring to dave on that regard.

          • banned says:

is for arao or even doug kramer better than dave? malabo ba mata mo?

how long has erram been with the blue eagles? why is he languishing under the shadows of gregory when he has been developed to be so much better than that?

          • Spinning Back Fist says:

Ford Arao already has two surgeries on his knees, so you really can’t expect much from him.

Now, is Doug Kramer better than Dave? I think so. Yeah, I think Kramer is better than Marcelo. Doug was the best power forward in 2006. He just didn’t made the mythical 5 because of a certain Jervy Cruz. He’s a center but awarded the league’s best Four. And months later, he was rightfully awarded as the best power forward in the PBL while playing for the Montaña.

      • Red Rampant says:

N.B will no longer be by the time (if) the Semerads will play after serving a 2 year residency. 2014 is another base plan for the blue eagles.

that’s from a very reliable person who is very credible and gets the facts from both sides.

  • Stagmatized says:

“It’s actually familiar territory for the Eagles, who were down 1-0 against the FEU Tamaraws and the Adamson Falcons respectively, in the last two PCCL Finals before taking the crown on both occassions. ”

should this mean we’re the next victims?? ehehe. goodluck na lang sa amin… ~_~

my boy has arrived. the twins are fkd. all is well.

    • Z says:

ju? well, can’t say i’m excited to see him play in the major leagues. but please be aware that i don’t like the twins in my backyard. ^^

      • YounghusbandsPLAY4SanBedaFC says:

i would feel the same if i were on your place. it will put ateneo in a bad light kasi there can be a presumption of piracy among schools of mvp. i hope they can never play. fk those ungrateful bazterdz.

      • YounghusbandsPLAY4SanBedaFC says:

that’s ola’s HL by the way.

    • mav says:

Wow! Ola is a monster! But’ he’s still that gentle, mild-mannered fellow underneath that power of his. Versatility is what this guy has compared to Sam and Su. I just can’t wait for the Fil Oil tourney, it’ll be showtime for Ola + Ju!

    • Red Rampant says:

Ola was developed by coach Frankie for almost 2 years and by next NCAA season that is almost three years. A 6’9 who can run, do perimeter shooting, dunk and even drive. I like if his olajowon and KG mover. Turn around, pivot and dunk. But I think Julius Armon will be more dominant next season.

    • britt reid says:

This guy is awesome. He must be drawing a big salary for his services.

  • YounghusbandsPLAY4SanBedaFC says:

who wants to harbor traitors in their house anyway? the twins know no loyalty.

  • YounghusbandsPLAY4SanBedaFC says:

my brothers have more subtle way in expressing disgust over the matter -not me. i have no kind words for the twins.

    • Z says:

can’t say i’d welcome them like we did with greg.

      • britt reid says:

You may eat your words later with saliva drooling two years from now when they help give the eagles their 8th consecutive uaap crown. Get real. If you don’t like them to play for your team, tell your management. Deep down inside,I’m have the suspicion many at admu the acquisition of these bedan imports and mercenaries a positive development.

  • PINE says:

    ATENEO BLUE PIRATES!!!

    • leolite says:

Oh yes! Kawawa naman ang Lyceum. Naagawan ng moniker. ADMU first pirated bedans from the red cubs, then Greg Slaughter, now the semarands. OMG! where is delicadeza????

    • Spinning Back Fist says:

Talked to some of the elder Ateneans kanina about the Semerad issue. If the Ateneo Blue Eagles are indeed “pirates”, then why didn’t they targeted bigger “loot”, bigger “treasure”, like Junmar Fajardo and not some second/third stringers? Why not the beast Calvin Abueva and Ian Sanggalang who impressive in beating us?

      • red guard says:

        SBF,

everyone u mentioned either has completed his egilibility or has questionable credentials or probabaly not pass the acet much less a grade 3 finals exam. Besides there’s a reason abueva is also fondly called “tito calvin” in the NC

Besides do u think the stags will let go of Sangalang? I forget the name, but their HS star who graduated last year wanted to transfer to the Tams. He’s in limbo right now.

      • Obvious says:

junmar fajardo is san miguel property, MVP with all his millions cant even convince the guy to play with Gilas. that’s the stumbling block there.

abueva tried to move to feu last year but given that he played in the D-League he can no longer play anymore since he’ll have to sit out 2 years.

sanggalang didnt play that well last year, its only this year that he really impressed with his play and its already too late to get him to transfer schools.

plus say all you want about fajardo, abueva and sanggalang, one thing going for these guys is that they are LOYAL to their handlers and that no amount of wooing will allow them to be PIRATED by other schools.

        • britt reid says:

loyalty is a two way street. the fact that players succumbs to piracy may mean something is grossly wrong with the institution they’re leaving and doesn’t deserve the person’s loyalty.

in the short term they are mercenaries

  • Tax says:

Nice game San Beda. Now please excuse us as we feast on some beef today.

  • The Biased says:

wow, the writer conveniently left out the fact that this was a depleted san beda team that ateneo faced. 10 man rotation with 2 starters out, including the leading scorer and best front court defender.

  • Z says:

BEs edge SSC-R. abueva fouled out gamit ang siko at mura. typical. LOL
