  • paxbedan says:

hey chris i thought jumao-as was going to FEU?

    • That Important Defensive Rebound says:

Oo nga. Di ba FEU na yang si Jumao-As. Thought so too.

    • fLip-or-fLap says:

Just like Boom Gonzales said when Ray Parks went to Georgia Tech, ” You’ll never know until you see the guy in the UAAP wearing the uniform.” =)

      • paxbedan says:

he didnt go through with it. hes currently playing with the bulldogs

      • noliboy_dc says:

may 2 years lang ata si Ray para maglaro sa NU before going to Georgia Tech. Parang usapan ata nila ng SM Foundation na ipapagamot si Bobby Parks kung maglalaro sya for atleast 2 years.

      • red rampant says:

I agree. last min. changes. Even if they are enrolled, as long as you see the Jersey on them. Well there are players who played for the Pre-season tounaments but did not played for ther respective collegiate tounament. I see more changes to come until June comes.

    • Frailty Tree Heads says:

8 new players for Baste, and a legit center on one of those 8 players so it means Ian Sangalang will have a winger! with those 8 players are also a legitimate point guard-like Pamboy Raymundo and kudos also to Gino Jumao-as playing for his alma matter as to be added as a scoring machine as well, so within those 8 are a few promising talents for Baste, other 8 has to step up their game to keep up with the newbie talents.

  • Captain Pogi says:

andyan pa pala yun pinatubo twins?

  • Dennis says:

So the pinatubo twins are staying. Buti naman.

  • That Important Defensive Rebound says:

Grabeh naman, Ateneo will parade 19 players. Siguro by June, wala na sina Jeric Estrada and Chis De Chavez. Tonino Gonzaga na rin siguro

  • That Important Defensive Rebound says:

    Lets see now:
    AUSTRIA, Bacon 5’10
    BUENAFE, Ryan 6’2
    CAPACIO, Gwyne
    CHUA, Justin 6’6
    DE CHAVEZ, Chris
    DELA CRUZ, Arthur 6’4
    ERRAM, JP 6’7
    ESTRADA, Jeric 6’6 (???)
    GOLLA, Frank 6’4
    GONZAGA, Tonino 5’10 (???)
    LONG, Kirk 5’10
    MONFORT, Emman 5’5
    PESSUMAL, Von
    RAVENA, Kiefer 5’11
    TALLO, Mark 5’10
    TIONGSON, Juami 5’6
    SALVA, Nico 6’4
    SLAUGHTER, Greg 6’11
    SUMALINOG, Oping 6’2

Correct me na lang if I’m wrong.

    • paxbedan says:

tumangkad ateneo. they can put slaughter and chua at the same time if they really wanna close down the paint

      • PG says:

that would only be suitable if the other team likes to play slow-down ball like adamson. even if both are good runners as big men, it’d be hard if they go chasing everytime down. it’s back to the halfcourt game for the eagles which they departed from since The Bumbay down low smacked people around.

        • Anti-heat says:

Ateneo can pull up a bunch of different line up depending on who they play against. This is your best team since the 2003 champion team that featured a starting 5 that are now all PBA players.

          • PG says:

to be honest… down to the 12th man, anyone can start for any school. the second unit is as good as any school’s starting unit. i bet my check on that.

          • PG says:

well nothing against ’08… they have 5 PBA players too if only chris tiu got himself drafted and eric salamat is a good bet to land on the league as well.

          • Anti-heat says:

Hate to bring this up to Ateneans. Watching the Smart Gilas B-meg game, even though I know Norman Black is tutoring Slaughter but he is being repeatedly beaten by Kerby Raymundo and the import. Fakes, Drives, Strong post ups and he fouls more so often than not. It’s true, maybe no one the UAAP/ College level are as skilled as Pros but it might also show that he is not the incredibly dominant bigman people envision him to be. Ateneo is good at team defense so that might take some of his weaknesses away.

          • red rampant says:

Its true. If ever Ravena and Amer will be next to Terry Saldana of Letran who went straight into PBA just after highschool.Imgine the figures Amer produces at hese two final games. A phenomenon…. I have great expectations for Amer.

        • paxbedan says:

i agree but i feel that some of the schools in the uaap have lost critical big men with aldreech ramos leaving feu and cervantes rumored to follow suit. overall ateneo is one of the fastest and posibly biggest team this season in the uaap.

          • PG says:

cervantes followed suit. only nuondou is left as reported to me by my cousin.

          • Escudo says:

            what about the man Stenchou?

          • PG says:

            sentchou will suit up.

          • burns says:

si St. Tiu…..este Sentchou, magaling ba yun? o baka matangkad lang.

          • What Everybody Said says:

do you guys watch the games live? have not watch any baser amer game. ever since. help. want to know what the hype is all about. :)

          • Escudo says:

WES yes we do, watch the games at the opening of Fil Oil. April 9th.

Then you can decide for yourself if Amer is hype of real.

          • What Everybody Said says:

How about televised game? I’m so curious with how Baser plays. He’s a PG right?

          • Anti-heat says:

            @WES

Think Rajon Rondo. His shooting skills might not be there yet but the moment it comes he’ll be a local version of Chris Paul (MVP Runner Up version). I can’t remember a PG who dishes the ball as good as this guy over the years. On Team that featured Gotladera, Javier and other good HS players he avg. 11 assists a game. Now he is teaming up with Sudan and company so I’d say he is going to get a lot more dimes.

          • Lola ni SK says:

Baser also lead the league in defensive rebs. Yep. Even i was shocked. I think he also averaged a good 16-18pts ppg. He drives. Kicks out to the shooters or pass it to gotladera or javier. Or just lay it in himself. He also have a strong upper body. Unusual for his size.

          • red rampant says:

I saw more than 8 live games with Baser Amer leading the pack. All I can say is he has the best basketball I.Q. both in highschool and you may include college players as well. This kid has instincts like John Stockton. He likes to make his team mates look good. With offensive firepower of the Red Lions, he is the man for plays and run’n gun game. Much have been wrote in the papers and in the net about this player. Everyone seems to agree. He gave back to back titles for the Red Cubs. No matter how good a player is, you can’t be remembered well if you never gained any championship.

          • Anti-heat says:

Baser’s line in 2 games in the finals

            14 pts, 9 rebs, 18 assts – game 1
            25 pts, 9 rebs, 8 assts – game 2

That’s with Chris Javier and Ponso Gotladera in the lineup.

          • Dennis says:

I hope Baser’s as good as advertised. I’m a fan of his game but I feel that his being overhyped by a lot of people.

          • Anti-heat says:

The real question here is can he carry over his all around game to the college ranks. Overhyped? Maybe but consider the fact that Coach Toroman already wants him and Kiefer Ravena to join the Smart Gilas roster in the PBA. ADMU and SBC commitments came first of course.

      • Escudo says:

paxbedan the word that comes to my mind is “Lockdown” along with Erram.

        • paxbedan says:

agree sir. and i heard that stenchou will play for feu this season. dont know much about him.. hope hes not gonna be another manyara. that went bad real quick

          • banned says:

let’s not judge them all too hastily. remember, that’s what people were saying about su after his first year also.

          • paxbedan says:

            @banned
i watched manyara play during the fr. martins cup. same manyara whos too soft around the basket and is pushed around by sudan and ola.. if he wants to morph like su he needs to do it now. otherwise hes wasting his spot

        • Red Cafe says:

Escudo, Did you see the player from Benilde named Maconocido? Is he the same dude who use to play for the stags that left and transferred? Any one please? Thanks

          • banned says:

sir, isnt the former stag, raymond maconocido? baka nag disguise para makapag laro ulit? watch out, su! protect those nuts!

          • sebastinian says:

no, younger brother of raymond maconocido is the one in st benilde

    • nyaks says:

      engget ka lang poh

    • PG says:

zags and bacon stand at 6’0″ and 6’1″ respectively. and estrada is 6’7″ like erram. as usual the mascot of inboundpass can only say one word.

      • That Important Defensive Rebound says:

        Appreciate the corrections.
But what about those who I failed to mention, namely Pessumal, Capacio, and De Chavez.

        • PG says:

von and chris are about 6’1″ with gwynne standing about 6’2″ to 6’3″ last time i checked.

          • Formerly4thyearEagleNowGraduatingYEY says:

Correction, I train with Gwynne and the others at Moro, The guy easily stands 6’4 probably 6’5 in shoes

          • That Important Defensive Rebound says:

Jan naman magaling si PG eh. Mag marunong at magmalaki nang mali.

          • PG says:

oh look he said shoes. soles give you about an inch taller. i was pertaining to without shoes. now, you play with your shoes on don’t you?

      • PG says:

        we are so educated. LOL

      • PG says:

      • What Everybody Said says:

@PG & Anti-Heat, Kevin Ferrer already suited up for UST Tigers Team A in a pre-season tourney. I think it’s close to say that the rumor he will stay with UST is true. All we need now is to wait for Jeron Teng by next year. By then, hope we could be at the top of the standings soon and rekindle some old rivalry with both ADMU & DLSU. Either way, entertaining basketball for all of us. By the way Anti-Heat, the rumored BIG you were talking about, never played and even mentioned in the preseason. Don’t know if he’ll play this year, all i know UST sources confirmed his existence.

        • What Everybody Said says:

This just in, Anti-Heat. Karim Adbul’s the name. Standing at 6″4′ is he the one you are referring too? I think he might play in filoil.

For the rest of the Tigers our line-up might be:

          Teng
          Abdul
          Mariano
          Bautista
          Fortuna
          Ferrer
          Afuang
          Pe
          Camus
          de Guzman
          Lo
          Javier
          Sheriff
          Tan

          • banned says:

isnt jeron teng graduating this year?

          • you were all yellow says:

the best thing about this lineup…no more Aytona!!! =)

          • USteg says:

JERON TENG will be an incoming fourth year high school student at Xavier School this SY 2011-2012. So, pang-Season 75 pa siya.

          • banned says:

whoa.. one more year to polish an already deadly game. i stand corrected on my forecast that our adam abatayo is the number one prospect by next year. he has some tough, tough competition right here.

          • Anti-heat says:

Well he might break his own record of what was it 104 pts. I’m sure he’ll be the big fish next year. Abatayo is no doubt good but he lacks Teng’s international experience and already polished skills. The guy is so good that I think the he is already better than his older brother. That’s my opinion though.

          • Dennis says:

Teng is good but what position does he play? Is he a big guard or an undersized big man?

          • Anti-heat says:

On the next level he will probably play the 3 position unless he get’s taller. Right now he plays PF as he is 6’3 or 6’4 which is about right for high school right? Only problem is he handles the ball better than almost all of the guards in that league. He rebounds and brings the ball himself often times and scores a layup or off a jumper being defended by a smaller man. I saw a game in B-tv where he put on an 14 or 16-0 run by himself. Only issue is being the best already in that league, will he strive and work harder to improve even more in the coming campaign or will he be satisfied with being as good as he is now realizing it’s enough?

          • Dennis says:

I thought he was just 6’1”? I hope he improves his shooting. I think most of his points came from layups and short jumpers.

          • Anti-heat says:

Correction as of now he is 6’2 or 6’3. You are right though on how he needs to improve that shooting especially from 3pt land.

          • bigf9i779 says:

just want to ask lang po…is it true na may cameroonian or nigerian player na rin ang UST? thanks…

          • What Everybody Said says:

            The name’s Abdul.Standing at 6’4″.

          • JJ says:

anyway guys his brother Jeric is still a smarter player. Yes Jeron is bigger and stronger version that’s basically how he scores at will in the league and he doesn’t really go with the system in XS when he is on the floor he usually does One on One plays and Iso’s and he also has poor shooting. but for somebody with his size he dribbles the ball quite well considering he belongs to the RP youth team. He doesn’t necessarily dribble better than most guards he doesn’t dribble it down the court anyway guards in the league although all lacking in size are still very good players i’ve been watching that league since like forever and they most if not all have better ball handling skills than Jeron. i doubt that this kid will go to UST anyway considering he is gonna be one of the most sought after players when he graduates.i seriously doubt he has much team play in mind if i dunno but when i see his stats they rarely consist much of assists which means when he gets the ball he quickly does his own thing.

          • JJ says:

        • Anti-heat says:

Well I think the guy to be exited about is Ferrer. The guy is big but plays the perimeter game. He’ll be an even better version of Dylan Ababou.

Wow very interesting I thought baste was done but apparently I was wrong. They pulled quite a surprise here. It might be another Beda Baste final but I’m sure Mapua and Arellano will have something to say about that. Looks like 18-0 part 2 might be a little harder now

    • drug pusher says:

Yeah! This is indeed a more exciting season for the NCAA. Baste will have the chance to regain their crown. Whats exciting is that Baser and Jumao-as will once again face each other in the seniors division. Baste will depend on their scoring prowess while the RLs must once again hold their grounds on the defensive side. Can’t wait.

      • paxbedan says:

yes but baste has to find a way to beat the transition offense of san beda and the inside pressence of their bigs namely Sudan,Marcelo,J.Pascual and hopefully this season OLA.

        • goldenstags says:

Well, we’ve got a pretty decent big men: Bobby Balucanag, Mike Miranda, Calvin Abueva and Ian Sangalang. And also Maiquez can also contribute.

Who knows Baste might have more surprises. Let’s see in the coming days who will be added on that roster.

          • drug pusher says:

haha! we love surprises! hope all goes well too with the other teams. it’s going to be a tough year for the RL’s but it’s going to be more thrilling to watch!

          • Anti-heat says:

If Baste learns how to play hard and tough without getting ejected I believe they can pull it off. Of course easier said than done.

        • johnny archer says:

no ola yet. next year pa.

        • Escudo says:

A-H, an 18-0 will surely be a tough nut to crack this year. I think chemistry will play a huge role now for the sweep, if ever. But with Baser in the RL who will also distribute the scoring, we will have a huge advantage but again, bilog ang bola.

I thought the Pinatubo twins were just blowing hot air down FEU’s way, and they will have no time with residency and that PBL thing hanging. No where to go, but surely no loyalty. Sadly they are Mercenaries. And with another Bong Pineda anointed coach, Baste will have a lot of leeway.

          @goldenstags

Yes one of the surprises will be Bong’s strong presence again dictating the numbers outcome.

          • Dennis says:

            Maghanda ng Alaxan si Amer.

          • red rampant says:

Nice one there. I like that “mercenaries” yes they are. by physique, character and action. I’m sorry but thats what they show. barbarism and no loyalty. NCAA was just like “my ladder to fame”. UAAP here we are! Oh we’re goin back… back to Baste… “Meron pa pala bala eh” Go, go Baste! basta sumikat! Importante paldo at makilala nang makaabot sa PBA! Pardon for my words but its really like that… Just how they dismantle their own team in the laste remaining days of the finals of NCAA.”gulo” lahat gusto sumikat!

        • red rampant says:

Just an info, Sudan and Pascual might push thru with their personal tactical training on defense and offense. the same training that Ekwe had here in the Philippines with Abe King-the defense pro of pba(i’m not sure)then for sure at the traing camp in the us this summer. This is similar to that of Dwight Howard’s training program. Its a good investment.

          • Escudo says:

            @RR

Jake has a lot of improvement to go on with and he must always have the heart to learn, you don’t lose that way. It will certainly be worth the investment. Su on the otherhand is seen a a guy who will do anything (in training) to gain more for the team and himself.

      • PG says:

what’s more important with the entry of jumao-as in the stags’ fold is that he will give them what they lost when Jimbo Aquino departed: consistent scoring. abueva is still as good for around 15 and 10 but he can’t pull off games like aquino did during his last tour of duty. kahit over-age na si abueva, may sipa pa yan.

        • Dennis says:

I think what they missed most was his leadership and maturity. Last year kadalasan makikita mo nagkanya kanya sila.

          • PG says:

thanks for pointing that out. but mostly a 20+ppg is really hard to replace when your best player is better at the other end, which is the defensive side of the floor. medyo pilit yung opensa niya as i noticed. no go-to move, inconsistent J… bad free throws…

          • What Everybody Said says:

I think Baste lost or did was not able to put up a fight against Beda was because the lost the game of the generals. Every time Stags make a run and threatens Beda in the form of a turnaround, Hermida was always there to keep the RL’s cool at level needed to keep their poise and composure. Pamboy on the other hand kept forcing the offense. No set plays were made. Shots were created not by plays, but by individual efforts. There were even times where Pamboy almosr looked like Kevin Alas. Pamboy struggled there. His maturity was not in play all. The heart and soul of the Stags at that time, their team captain, did not figure to keep things intact. Had Pamboy only kept things under his control the way he did in the 2009 finals, the RLs would have faced tougher competition.

          • Dennis says:

So no Jimbo, Pamboy and Ato. Ang tanong sino ang mag lead sa stags?

          • What Everybody Said says:

Well, that’s their problem for now. They do not have a stabilizer in their team. They don’t have that Derek Fisher to stabilize the team.

          • Dennis says:

Maybe Anthony Del Rio can be that guy? Anyway I wouldn’t want to be the coach of that team. Way too many loose cannons and knuckle heads. Plus I read they only want to be coached by a Kapangpangan.

          • That Important Defensive Rebound says:

            I once said:

“Pwede ba trade, San Beda for UST and/or UP”, to WES’s anger.
Well What Everybody Said, and the rest of you’re fellow Thomasians, I’m very sorry.

I only said that because I do want the Red Lions in the UAAP.
            And I really mean that.
And that’s just wrong for me to say.
            Once again, I’m sorry.

          • PG says:

somehow, no one ain’t buying your bull any more “tough” guy.

          • That Important Defensive Rebound says:

Then don’t buy it. Its not for you anyway.

          • Outback Outlaw says:

            @ PG,
I really think that That Important Defensive Board is the ULTIMATE REPUBLICAN here at inboundpass. He wants everything traditional. Saying no to new stuffs, deeming it as deteriorating, which is sometimes true. Hate to say it, but the globalization thing has yet to work. But at least he wants success for everyone.

          • PG says:

didn’t say that it was for me did i? just giving you what the general reception is for frauds.

          • Outback Outlaw says:

I spent the past hour reading TIDR’s posts and comments, and I’m gonna say that he is just a GRIEVING RELATIVE. He’s grieving for the failure of his relative Ogie Menor. And TIDR is blaming San Beda and its globalization.

Just a while ago, there was a commotion in a nearby elementary school. A parent charged, arguing why her son is not the valedictorian. Totally reminded me of That Important Defensive Rebound.

          • What Everybody Said says:

Surprised you still remember what you have said. Respect the humility you have shown. All is forgotten and forgiven. Will retroact things in perspective. See you in the coming threads. May we all grow out of our immature comments at times. :)

    • Dennis says:

      Sino na starting pg nila?

      • banned says:

could be del rio or gatchalian. semira as their starting 2 and pascual at the 3. still pretty good lineup.
del rio, semira, pascual, abueva and sangalang. this group will play well for sure, it’s their bench that’s the biggest factor on how far they go this year.

        • Dennis says:

Gatchalian is small maybe around Caram’s height or smaller and plays out of control. Medyo mainitin pa ang ulo as evidenced by his suspension last season. Del Rio is still inconsistent pero if I’m coach Turo I’ll still start him ahead of Gatchalian based on his maturity alone.

          • PG says:

toothpick si gatchalian. kakainin ni Hammer yan. i swear.

          • banned says:

but if they put in del rio against our pg’s, big disadvantage for our guards on the defensive end. except when he’s matched up against villahermosa, we’d be forced to go zone most of the time, freeing up their shooters, semira and pascual. could spell trouble.

          • PG says:

physique wise, hammer is built like a pro already. a few more trips to the gym would make him a rock-solid point defensively.

          • Dennis says:

Is Del Rio a natural PG?

          • PG says:

he’s a natural 2. can be a combo guard though.

          • banned says:

pg, not yet bro. he’s a little lean now, nakakatakot pag pinabagsak ni lolo cal. a few more lbs would do him well.
as for gatchalian, yep, baser’ll have his bfast, lunch and dinner. haha
del rio has been playing point in the d-league. looks like this will be his position for the coming ncaa season. baste doesn’t really have a choice anyway, none of their other pg’s can match up with opposing teams. pati guards ng arellano ang lalakas.

          • banned says:

just wondering.. if baser went to ateneo with kiefer or kiefer went to san beda with baser. how good would that tandem be on their 3rd or 4th year together? sweet.

          • Anti-heat says:

Not to be a kill joy but I don’t think they will be ideal together. Baser needs the ball, being a pure PG he creates situations to either dish to an open teammate, or score if the defense gives an opening. Kiefer meanwhile creates situations for himself to score based on what the defense shows him, passing is more like a 2nd option. Baser would shine in a team full of finishers like Garvo, Sudan, Dela Rosa. Kiefer meanwhile is more suited to a team that spreads the floor with guys like Long, Salva, Monfort so he has space to operate. In my opinion if you put them together it would be like putting Rajon Rondo and Kobe Bryant in one team.

          • banned says:

makes perfect sense, sir. but these two kids have the most basketball sense and iq i’ve seen in a long while. i’m sure they would have learned to adjust their games to complement each other and play well together. let’s see what they can do, if things pan out with gilas.

          • Anti-heat says:

No doubt in the future if they ever become part of smart gilas they have to adjust their game but for their personal development I think they have to play for their current respective teams.

  • baycats says:

teka lang! yang Lyle Antipuesto na yan diba yan yung player ng SSC-R Cavite? E graduating na yan ah. pano sya napasama sa lineup ng Baste Manila?

  • nice says:

von chavez and chris javier sana sa beda kayo mag stay.. c ponso gotladera nsa archers na pati c dan sara.. hay sayang naman

  • redlion123 says:

^^ chavez is staying with san beda

    • Dennis says:

Kala ko ba UE na siya with 4 other red cubs?

      • banned says:

that wasn’t confirmed, bro. they practiced with the warriors, but in the end von chose to stay with san beda’s team b and chris is undecided at this time.

        • Dennis says:

Undecided pa? Sayang yun red cubs. Me team b pa ba tayo?

          • banned says:

yes, we do. if ponso and chris stays, they’ll be playing on our team b with ola with at least one pg currently on the lineup getting cut as well. most probably, next year they’ll be on our team a na, except for the pg. right now, we have 3 pg’s on our rotation. melo, anjo, paolo and mar. with baser playing in the fil-oil league, i think one of them will get cut.

          • banned says:

            sorry, 4 pala. haha

          • Dennis says:

Marami naman mawawala next year e. Saka di din sila makakakuha ng minutes sa ibang team kasi rookies pa lang sila unless sobrang na impress nila yun coaches o bottom feeder sinalihan nila.

          • banned says:

ponso was really considering dlsu. i believe he still is. but given that he’ll also be in their team b, he might just opt to stay put in san beda. von has confirmed that he’ll stay with our team b and hope to make the lineup by next year. let’s hope we can get adam abatayo as well, he will be graduating next year.

          • terio says:

Fonzo, I believe will play for DLSU Team A. Chances are, he will replace Ferdinand.

          • Dennis says:

Fonso>Ferdinand. Why play him when you guys have way better players on team B/D. Peace tayo mga Ferdinand fans.

          • banned says:

wait, pls correct me if i’m wrong, but dlsu has 3 spots open: ferdi’s, banal’s and Tolentino’s. We have Torres, Van Opstal and Sara, who are all rookies, being touted to fill those spots plus a returnee in LA Revilla. Will Gotladera have a spot this season? He may have to wait till next year when atkins graduates…nandyan pa si vigil, pate, at yung ibang players sa team b…pahirapan sa try-outs to.. :)

  • hoyhoy says:

javier might take the place of jaypee mendoza..well since melo is untouchable, sana sorela’s place would be given to ponso..galing kasi ng coach ng san beda puro nepotismo!

    • That Important Defensive Rebound says:

Jaypee Mendoza is the #8, right? He’s stands what, 6’4? What happened? I think he’s promising. He once represented the country in Iran right?

      • PG says:

#8 in SBC is Jake Pascual

      • Dennis says:

6’3”-6’4” G/F. Balita ko na injured at baka di na makapaglaro.

        • PG says:

isn’t he the ice cream guy? i mean ice cream soft.

          • Captain Pogi says:

i think the ice cream guy is kyle pascual

          • banned says:

nah, jp’s tough, man. he just injured his hamstring or parang a blood clot in his legs or something. he’s not allowed to play for a year.
he’s about 6’2 yata. nice touch from the perimeter. and yes, he represented the country before as part of the rp youth u18 team.

          • PG says:

oh okay that may be the kyle guy indeed.

          • banned says:

yep, kyle is mr. softy nga. let’s give him some time to develop. the dude is young, not even in his twenties. he was also a team mate of sangalang, mendoza, rr garcia, etc in the u18 team.

          • Escudo says:

Kyle is not a soft ice cream, he is a tough 19 yr old who held his own even with Lolo Calvin breathing down on him. Recall that Finals game where he swung a natural way and Lolo fell clutching his chin?

Yeah give him time he will be a go to guy.

          • drug pusher says:

its kyle. he is soft. don’t really understand why he was kept on starting last season.

          • Dennis says:

He’s 6’6 and plays F/C. Medyo kabado lang siguro kasi rookie pa.

          • Escudo says:

Marcelo was somewhat like Kyle and perhaps slightly off, I recall many “butas kamay” passes he missed in his rookie year.

  • ang ateneo lumaki! ang baste malakas pa rin! tignan natin ang mapua and arellano, not to forget JRU and letran. yang letran, magaling magtago ng mga players. d rin tyo nakakasiguro sa mga yan…la salle din will have a strong line -up. of course, andyan pa rin ang feu, adu and nu

    karambola to for both leagues.

looks like we’ll have the best season ever!!!

let it all hang out then!!

    • PG says:

it’s time to put where NU’s words’ worth are. if they are still like the bulldogs of old, my F4 would still be ADMU, DLSU, AdU, FEU/UST and UP as a lurker if it gets it act together. will be looking forward to SBC tussling with Mapua and Arellano this coming NCAA season. Mapua is just unlucky in drawing SBC first.

  • hoyhoy says:

I dont think feu can make it to the final four. Ust looks promising..But it look like an Blue Green affair in the Uaap..In the Ncaa the team to watch is Letran they might just pull some upsets and make to the final four..I see a repeat of the 1991 finals..

    • What Everybody Said says:

Blue and Green definitely. But Black Gold Black White has some potential. Recruitments went on high note this year. This year might not manifest, but, maybe in time. Waiting for Jeron Teng. Come in when your brother is about to peak! Two years later, it’s all yours. Be an alpha dog with KF.

      • paxbedan says:

i have a good feeling that in a couple of years ust will compete for the championship.. they need to stop falling in love with the 3 pt shot, get their big men to toughen up and get decent big men for the rebounds.. its always a joy to watch the tigers play ball. theres potential just missing some parts and fix some parts :))

      • you were all yellow says:

I think Pido is at an ultimatum thsi year…he needs to at lest enter the finals in order to be back next year…considering the acquisitions and the natural year to year progressions of those already in the lineup…i think the tigers have a pretty decent shot at a finals appearance this year and a realistic title run next year. this is all speculation at this point though but of course, that is what i’m hoping for. =)

      • JJ says:

i really doubt that jeron is gonna end up with UST. him being one of the great talents coming out of high school by the time he graduates i bet he is gonna end up with the greens. i don’t think he is a type of player that coach norman would go after though. But a promise of having all the playing time in the world might sway him to UST though and if this happens it will be the downfall of the school come UAAP season haha

        • you were all yellow says:

Not even the presence of his big bro? and of course his father has a say in all this…i doubt he will go to lasalle, he doesnt fit their scheme. if ust at least grabs a final 4 slot this year, jeron might be persuaded by making him think that he is the missing link to put the team over the top…and recent history sways to the favor of ust nabbing jeron next year. the alases, bringases, lagos, semirads, yayas, ciriacruzes, pumarens, sisons for example all played together. the only exception i can think of are the hubaldes…still that is a good ratio. why do you say it will be the end for the tigers if jeron comes in?

          • USteg says:

They say that it will be the end for the Tigers coz they noticed that although he is not a true point guard, he dribbled a lot, they don’t understand that perhaps, he had to be a ‘hog’ since most of his teammates are butterfingers and may only lose the ball if he hands it to them or, have it intercepted with all those predictable passing the ball around routine. He can make those outside shots but just like his brother Jeric, he needs ‘better’ consistency. He dominates the painted area only becoz of his size, “big” for a high school player. It clearly appears that his Xavier coaches has full trust and confidence in his playing abilities thus, allowing him to play his game.

On the other hand, since both AdMU, DLSU and other UAAP coaching staff put their players on a tight leash, I doubt if anyone of them will allow Jeron play his ‘high school’ game (he scored 104 points in a regular, no overtime game).

But, with Coach Pido’s ‘One from the heart approach to the game of basketball, he may just find his place in this sunny side of Espana, just like his ROY brother!

  • 4peat says:

The person who will have first cut in the final selection is Fr. Que!

    • Rey Dumrique says:

Actually, Fr. Que’s job is done. All of the rookies have passed the ACET. The next one is Associate Dean Eddieboy Calasanz. Anyone who goes on probation (yearly QPI below 2.0) cannot play varsity sports.

      • PG says:

1st year QPI is at 1.8 increasing until the senior year which is 2.1.

        • egal says:

If true, then it would mean, real student-athletes! ADMU 1st 5:

    Greg Slaughter – 6’11
    Nico Salva – 6’4
    Ryan Buenafe – 6’3
    Kirk Long – 6’2
    Eman Monfort – 5’5

    2nd 5:

    Justin Chua – 6’5
    Frank Golla – 6’5
    Bacon Austria – 6’2
    Kiefer Ravena – 5’11
    Juami Tiongon – 5’7

This is based on the team’s best players according to position. I still see Ryan Buenafe coming off the bench and leading the second stringers. What do you guys think?

They can field in their all-rookie team and still be competitive.

    Rookie team:

    Greg Slaughter – 6’11
    Gwynne Capacio – 6’3
    Von Pessumal – 6’2
    Kiefer Ravena – 5’11
    Mark Tallo – 5’10

    • PG says:

there’s a bit of a mistake in your starting 5. it will be Nico Salva leading the second unit and lead the team in scoring once more. so it should read:

      Starting 5:

      Monfort
      Long
      Slaughter
      Buenafe/Sumalinog
      Golla

and your second unit would be:

      Tiongson
      Ravena
      Chua
      Salva
      Sumalinog/Buenafe

Tallo i think needs to ripen more… and erram will be a victory cigar in the early run before proving his worth, like he did last year, in the play offs.

the second unit is as good as the starting unit without missing a beat. Nico Salva will be much much better than the Rocket and pick apart opposing benches either posting up, facing up or ramming the leather into the rim.

      • Anti-heat says:

Before the season ends I think Ravena will end up as the PG or SG. More likely so PG but don’t know Ateneo will surely give him a chance to win ROY.

        • PG says:

just like jai did? maybe starting two-guard… and long as the PG. he was a pg in FAITH anyway…

          • What Everybody Said says:

At what height does Ravena stand?

          • PG says:

WES mga 5’10-5’11 si KR. but his vertical is crazy.

          • nyaks says:

I really think Ravena ill start. We need a natural scorer in the lineup.

          • Anti-heat says:

            @WES and PG

Not only that he shifts directions and evade defenders very well so height might not be such a factor for him. If grows up to about 6’2 look out he’ll be an even better version of James Yap.

        • Anti-heat says:

Exactly similar to how Glen Capacio played Romeo last year. He’ll force some shots and Coach Norman will howl from the bench at him for it but once he gets some minutes in especially from blow out games, he’ll eventually learn how to play in a system that doesn’t revolve around just him. The guy is just too talented to keep on the bench I imagine him starting especially in the final four onwards. He’ll no doubt make a huge impact but I think Ray Parks might be the ROY unless he fizzles out for some reason.

          • banned says:

i think ateneo is too loaded for kiefer to get the same kind of stats that bobby ray can get at NU. so most likely nga, bobby ray.

          • Anti-heat says:

Yup exactly. Question though can Ray Parks and Mbe play at the same time? There is a rule that says only one Foreign player can play for a team during game time and if they want another to play they have to sub him right?

          • banned says:

yes sir, they can play at the same time. bobby ray is a fil-am and isn’t classified as a foreign player.

          • PG says:

yeah what banned said A-H. but think this: the miami heat have 3 good players. two of them are legit. the other is a fake tough guy. anyway, do they have a bench? the answer is no. terso would be a mike bibby. and that isn’t saying much. it could end up that way. no hate, just pure objectivity.

          • Anti-heat says:

They have 2 great players and other question marks. While ADMU, DLSU, ADU, FEU (maybe) and UST have more than 5 not only great but quality players. Question is what happens to NU if a team manages to shut down both Parks and Mbe.

          • PG says:

that’s exactly the miami heat. LOL

          • Anti-heat says:

Let’s not offend the Miami Heat. Washington Wizards na lang Parks (John Wall), Mbe (Mcgee) and others.

          • you were all yellow says:

        • What Everybody Said says:

The good thing about Ateneo ball, especially w/ Coach Black, the know when to use a player. To me, ADMU has the most effective player utilization scheme. They will know when and how to utilize well Monfort and Kiefer.

  • ttttt says:

    ADMU
    CAPACIO, Gwyne
    PESSUMAL, Von
    RAVENA, Kiefer
    TALLO, Mark
    SLAUGHTER, Greg

    DLSU (most probably)
    Norbert Torres
    AVO
    Louie Vigil
    Dan Sara
    Ponzo Gotladera
    *Micheal Pate

    Returning players
    LA Revilla – DLSU
    Oping Sumalinog – ADMU

    WAR!!!!

    • Anti-heat says:

We have a chance here as long as we play hard and smart. If Slaughter plays like he did against B-Meg (game just a while ago) we’ll have a great shot.

      • TOQUINHO says:

OH! Do you mean Greg’s 7-block performance earlier against the pros?? If Greg played like that in the UAAP, you guys have a great shot alright. A great shot of getting slaughtered in the paint. boom.

        • Anti-heat says:

Did they win? When did B-Meg get the lead cause I can remember Gilas with the lead when Douthit was on the floor. He had 7 blocks yeah you are right but those came with 5 turnovers and 4 fouls. Also count how many points in the paint B-Meg scored. B-meg had 70 rebounds (How the hell did that happen wow) while Gilas had 49. It’s true it’s not entirely his fault they lost the game but B-meg made that comeback by attacking him down low. Basketball isn’t a 1 stat sport learn something and comeback here when you do.

          • nyaks says:

Please be reminded that there is only one ball and Gilas would rather give it to Tiu, Casio, Lassiter, Douthit and even Aguilar and Baracael rather than Slaughter. Nevertheless, he was still so effective without the ball. 7 blocks? Paano pa kaya sa Amateur? 10 blocks per game? 10 rebounds per game and at least 10 points per game. Triple double average siguro noh?

Please wait for the season because ADMU will be Slaughter, Buenafe and Ravena will all be counted to score this time, with Kirk as the acting leader. Slaughter, in a Norman Black System? Grabe yun.

            Kawawang DLSU.

          • Anti-heat says:

Please also be reminded that as a Center his job is to block shots (duh) and rebound. He was effective in blocking shots, rebounding let’s see Pingris who is 6’5 had 19, Kerby who is 6’6 had 12, their 6’2 import had 9, PJ Simon who is what 6’0 had 8 and 7’0 Greg Slaughter had 3! I’m not entirely putting the blame on him but fact is B-meg made a comeback when they went at him underneath the basket. He blocked shots yes but it came back to the B-meg players hands where they either scored on the 2nd or 3rd attempt or went at the foul line. You say a lot of funny stuff for a ADMU band wagoner while it may be true DLSU might get killed by Ateneo we’ll make sure we actually fight in the game not with just words. ADMU isn’t the only team that got good recruits.

        • 4peat says:

The honorable student came from his class in Economics, and he may have been wondering why the misnomer, calling the degree of Economics Economics when it only teaches a branch of Economic Philosophy which we call Capitalism.

Hmmm, ADMU has to be corrected.

Anyway, win or lose… its the school we choose.

        • PG says:

i tell you, DLSU and ADMU games will have a bang this year. just that. no promises. anything can happen in a DLSU-ADMU game man. think logically.

          • Anti-heat says:

Agreed, will watch both games in Araneta it’s always been the only thing I’ve watched live here aside from when the old nba allstars came to town.

          • banned says:

sirs ah and pg, i hope it’s more than 2 games between your teams this season.

          • Anti-heat says:

Well they can play up to six games this season if this scenario occurs. They play each other twice during eliminations as per usual then end up being tied for first (Ateneo won’t be battling for anything but first in my honest opinion) They have to settle who is first or second so that’s a 3rd game. Then of course meet in the best of 3 finals that goes all 3 games. So 6 sold out games at Araneta. Well for that to happen La Salle’s recruits better be as good as the forums say they are.

          • banned says:

that would be great! didn’t that happen before during the larry-macmac days? we’ll see you in araneta then. i’m always at the ateneo side though as my atenean bro-in-law gets the tickets for us.
i’m sure your recruits will do well. torres and webb will be the key factors, i think. the return of la revilla, will be big as well. ateneo’s strength is their frontcourt, but your backcourt will be a nightmare to opposing teams. good luck to both your teams. i’m hoping to see uste and up bounce back as well. this’ll be a good year for college ball!

          • PG says:

guess i’ll see you around too banned. you can spot me easily. i wear a DLSU-green colored shirt that has ATENEO emblazoned on it. i know, i know, but what can i do? our P.E. uniforms in high school are color coded and my class just got lucky. i use it every ADMU-DLSU game. LOL.

          • 4peat says:

It is always a Bang, DLSU and ADMU games.

Get your season tickets now or ID!

I maintain my stand, ADMU will 4 peat!

      • you were all yellow says:

        @ AH

you really can’t compare slaughter’s performances in the pros to what he might do in the uaap…they are pros for a reason…the level of play they are currently at are far from what slaughter will be facing in the uaap. yes he got bullied and abused down low by bmeg but there is nobody in college that can matchup against pingris, kerby or especially an import…he is still raw yes but his is a bit more talented than 95% of the centers in the uaap for sure.

  • muralla22 says:

  • out of the blue says:

wow… admu’s got a solid 19-man lineup…it’ll be tough to guess who’ll end up in team glory be… my hunch is maybe tallo, pessumal, estrada and maybe erram will be off that list come uaap time…

    obf!

    • muralla22 says:

i think the blue eagles will hve a 4-peat….even other scools have improved their line-up, my bet is still ateneo….your biggest threat will be la salle.and other potential contenders are NU, AdU, and UST

      • out of the blue says:

i agree with adamson being a threat. la salle will always be dangerous with their system and ability to recruit. ust will get stronger but i’m not sure how strong they will be for next season. the teng brothers and ferrer along with bautista will be a good core to build around…

nu got a slew of good recruits but it remains to be seen whether they play well together with a new coach and a new system…

we’ll see when the season begins!

        obf!

      • What Everybody Said says:

I can not figure UST being considered as a contender. Is it because of the guards? Well, they can if Teng, Tata, & Camus will have a breakout year. Still, the frontline is thin.

          o ibang tao?

  • Chris, when do the line-ups of the other teams coming out?

  • Outback Outlaw says:

I spent the past hour reading TIDR’s posts and comments, and I’m gonna say that he is just a GRIEVING RELATIVE. He’s grieving for the failure of his relative Ogie Menor. And TIDR is blaming San Beda and its globalization.
Just a while ago, there was a commotion in a nearby elementary school. A parent charged, arguing why her son is not the valedictorian. Totally reminded me of That Important Defensive Board.

    • That Important Defensive Rebound says:

Its just frustrating, Outback Outlaw. PG said, the import will make the local fight for his spot in a team. But how can the local fight, when he already lost. The spot was already given to the import. And he’s saying the local got better?

      • Anti-heat says:

No offense but if he really wanted that spot he could’ve worked his tail off knowing that he is competing against an import. Sometimes you have to face the fact that the roster is for 12 guys only and if he isn’t picked then that must mean the management thought he wasn’t good enough. He should take not getting picked as a motivation to work even harder. Jordan wasn’t picked in his first year at high school and look where it took him. The problem is instead of getting better they got bitter.

      • PG says:

the spot was given to the import because of his superior skill level to that of the local. the local, knowing the difference, would work on his game in the offseason, making him better and probably, upending the import’s spot. you see, that is liable to happen only in big schools. but for the small schools with imports? i don’t think so. did austin manyara steal a spot in adamson? no he didn’t. the locals shine brighter than him, as opposed to emmanuel mbe, where he is their best player.

        • What Everybody Said says:

Exactly. They would have put on the mantra “FIRST TO ENTER THE GYM, LAST TO LEAVE THE GYM”. Before the African invasion, were there players like this? Only quite a few. As far as I am aware, and this is not because I’m a half-Jesuit & half-dominican, Blue Eagles of 2002 & Tigers of the 4-Peat. This are the only teams who had their players on this kind of mantra that I am aware of. And oh, yeah. Ren-ren Ritualo. While a junior, he practices at least a hundred shots more than the rest of his peers. Other than him on that team? No one made extra effort. He was taking 3-pointers as if we was in a sleeping bed. Yeah, his back was right at the floor. Only a handful of players had that mantra. You guys know why? No big of a threat in the likes of this Africans are present. Instead of putting extra hours in the gym, players go tv & radio shows, commercial shoot, concerts, club. etc… that’s how it is.

      • Dennis says:

And if he can’t compete for that final roster spot then maybe he needs to choose another career besides basketball. Seriously all you have to do is impress the coach enough in practice then sit on the bench come gametime. If you can’t even accomplish that then maybe you are just not good enough to play professional ball. Mag aral ka na lang mabuti.

      • Dennis says:

Oh and that spot is earned not given. Ferdinand’s a special case. Peace A-H

      • Anti-heat says:

        @Dennis

No prob. We took a gamble on him just like we took a gamble on some of the cagers we took. Ryan Arana proved quite a good gamble, so did Cholo Villanueva. We figured he had the athletic ability to be a force on the defensive end. Well we thought wrong obviously.

        • Dennis says:

Everybody including me had high hopes for that kid. Guess he was just all hype. Was it his work ethic that doomed him or his lack talent? Wala ba nag mentor sa kanya?

          • PG says:

i remember him dunking on tonino gonzaga in a post-season tournament… and on nico salva… those were his glory moments. just those. haha

        • What Everybody Said says:

Thought Arana had a very high basketball IQ. He was really good in reading the defense, getting past throuhg and going around those clogged lanes of every team defense. Making his speciality, “the short stab”, in to good work. Pochollo was an underrated stabilizer of the team.

        • Outback Outlaw says:

If I remember correctly, Manny Pangilinan once set up an exclusive league for 6’0 and above and only 18 years and below. What was a blur to me was who the league MVP was. Was it Jean Marc Pingris o Ryan Araña.
And my point, I don’t think Araña was a gamble. He was obviously good.

      • Outback Outlaw says:

No Offense to anyone, but the Philippine version of the NCAA is not really the best provider of talent for the PBA. Now, TIDR, if we are going to base it at that, then its you’re cousin in law’s fault by not making it big in the pros.

But lets think positive, shall we. Menor might not be the Patrimonio or the Adducul or anyone YOU want him to be, but at least he can be the Ogie “LBJ” Menor, the PBA D-League’s first ever Most Valuable Player.

        • Dennis says:

He obviously just wants our sympathy.

          • Outback Outlaw says:

Dennis naman, talo na yung tao, yung pinaglalaban, at schoolmate mo, si Ogie. He’s arguing, fighting a battle that he already lost since what, 2007?

      • Anti-heat says:

There is a saying. Talent creates opportunities but it’s desire that creates talent however hard work beats talent when talent refuses to work hard. Better to be a hard worker because desire is what will make you talented.

        • banned says:

          can anyone say vince carter?
all talent, no heart. thats what made him different from kobe and mj.

          • PG says:

or T-Mac? and LeBron too? yeah i think so.

          • Dennis says:

Si Lebron din. Fck the big 3.

          • Dennis says:

You can also add Iverson to that list. And Melo

          • Outback Outlaw says:

I was a big, big fan of the Answer, Allen Iverson. He has the skill and the heart. Sending his Airness to school, scoring over and under opposing teams’ frontline.

But he’s disillusioned. He wants everything his way. Iverson doesn’t want to practice, doesn’t want to be substituted and doesn’t want to come off the bench.

He thinks the team exist for him, and not the other way around.

        • Anti-heat says:

T-Mac yeah. LeBron I think works hard but he doesn’t have Kobe’s competitive fire and killer instinct. If Bosh played for Kobe’s team Kobe would’ve made him cry for being the softest player in the NBA.

      • Dennis says:

If you’re better or equally talented as the ‘import’ then you shouldn’t be fighting for the last roster slot anyway. You should find another school where you could start.

      • Dennis says:

Kung di naman me team B naman di ba? Work on your game first at mag aral ng mabuti.

      • you were all yellow says:

the teams consists of 12 players…why are you pitting menor against an import? hindi ba pwedeng ibang local ang palitan nya instead? that just means that 11 other locals are better than him…or are “mas malakas ang backer”..hehe problem with menor though is he has a subpar basketball IQ…the talent, athleticism, potential is there…he just isn’t a good decision maker…taking forced shots, sleeping on d and the like…those are coachable mistakes though so we have to question his being coachable. menor is where he should be right now, in the amateurs working on his game. don’t be frustrated TIDR, gary david and pj simon spent almost 5 years in the pbl before getting a spot in the pba…if ogie works hard on his game, he might just be the next “mr. pure energy”.

I think San Beda and Ateneo are the teams that will be strongest on paper. But, on day one of the Fil-Oil, one team will be vanquished. I suspect its my school. Not that I wish it, but it will be the Tactician who will have the advantage. My Bedan brothers may disagree but this is my study.

    • red guard says:

its impt to win in preseason..when the stags grabbed the NCAA crown from the Red Lions, they had already faced off and won 2 out of 3 preseason tourneys that year.

I’m sure all of the NCAA will bring their A game when they face the RLs.Its going to be doubly harder to achieve a 18-0 this time around.

But I’m sure as well Frankie will spring a surprise or two.I’m kinda disappointed that some red cubs could not wait a year to crack the rotation but still wish them well in their new colegiate teams.

heres to the start of a new year as we begin the preseason Vs the Blue Eagles on April9.

even paul lee is in the lineup of ue during the fr. martin pero no show
