Toroman, Black, Compton share knowledge in Coach Now 2011

Local basketball coaches from all over the country gathered at the Blue Eagle Gym in Quezon City for three days to listen to some of the best basketball minds share their knowledge of the game in the Coach Now coaching clinic.
From Tarlac, Batangas, Bicol, Iloilo, Bacolod, Cebu, Davao and various places in Metro Manila, nearly 50 coaches and those interested in coaching came to attend the clinic, held from March 3 to 5. The clinic is now on its third year and has helped many aspiring basketball coaches further their coaching skills and technique.
The first day of the clinic saw former Ateneo Blue Eaglets coach Jamike Jarin share the winning philosophy that helped him guide the Blue Eaglets to three consecutive UAAP juniors basketball titles, including six in the last 10 years. Then, Ateneo head coach Norman Black to the court along with five of his players to demonstrate the Blue Eagles’ vaunted fastbreak offense.
Later in the afternoon, Powerade Tigers assistant coach Alex Compton taught the participants his own set of shooting drills and techniques, before Meralco Bolts head coach Ryan Gregorio gave an informative lecture on motivating your team.
Smart Gilas assistant coach Jude Roque opened up the second day with a detailed lecture on practice planning and scouting. His boss, Rajko Toroman, followed him with a discussion and court demonstration of the different offensive patterns he likes to run.
Noted orthopedic surgeon Dr. George Canlas then shared the latest developments in sports medicine. Prof. Ronnie Dizer of the UP College of Human Kinetics ended the day with a video presentation of sports-specific strength and conditioning training.
The last day of the clinic was ushered in by Alaska Aces assistant coach Joel Banal, who taught the participants the intricacies of the Aces’ famous triangle offense.
After him came Powerade Tigers head coach Bo Perasol, who lectured on the five dysfunctions of a basketball team.
Later on, Letran Knights head coach Louie Alas, along with some of his Letran players, demonstrated their pressure defense. Long-time PBA referee Romy Guevarra then closed the clinic with a lecture on the latest FIBA rules.
Coach Now aims to provide a venue for basketball coaches, particularly those from the provinces, a venue to interact with accomplished coaches from the professional and amateur ranks, with the goal of honing their skills and making them better mentors.
The clinic is held yearly and organized by Inboundpass.
