ALEX Nuyles picked the right game to explode.
After scoring just a combined 9 points in their previous two outings, Adamson head coach Leo Austria’s go-to-guy scored a game-high 15 points to lift his Falcons to victory over the De La Salle University Green Archers in their game last Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at the Fil-Oil Flying V Arena in San Juan City. The San Marcelino outfit knocked off the one-time tournament winners (2008) in the Final Four, ending their inspired 2010 Philippine Collegiate Champions League campaign.
De La Salle University has been playing minus starting forward, David Webb and Gab Banal, in their first two matchups tournament which were against the Colegio de San Juan de Letran Knights and the San Beda College Red Lions. The Green Archers played spirited basketball to end San Beda’s win streak at 19 by upsetting them in the quarter-finals, 84-74.
The Green Archers once again opened the game with an active start, and led by 10 points at the end of the first period. But, the Falcons’ bench scoring tied the game at halftime as it outscored the entire La Salle team in the second period, 22-12. Nuyles, a third-year swingman and one of the most athletic players in all of collegiate basketball, did come off the bench in this particular game and did not disappoint.
Adamson has never made it to the PCCL Sweet 16 prior to this year. Last year, they got ousted in the Cebu Zonals via the quotient rule by the University of Cebu and the San Sebastian College-Recoletos de Cavite.
The Falcons will now continue their magical PCCL run as they enter the Finals against the defending champions of the tournament, the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles.
The Finals series is a best-of-three affair that will begin on Thursday, December 2, 2010 at the Ninoy Aquino Memorial Stadium.
Three games will be held on that day and will be aired live on Studio 23 courtesy of ABS-CBN Sports.
