Eagles clobber Archers

THIS time, the Ateneo Blue Eagles made sure they wouldn’t squander a big lead.

Riding high on the hot shooting of Kirk Long, the defending champion Eagles plastered archrivals De La Salle Green Archers, 74-57, to grab solo second as the elimination round of the UAAP enters it homestretch.

Careful to avoid a collapse similar to what happened in their first-round encounter, where they saw the Archers claw back from a nine-point deficit in the last four minutes, the Eagles built a huge lead in the second period and protected it till the final buzzer behind tough defense, Long’s scoring, and Ryan Buenafe’s brilliant all-round game.

“We did a good job closing out on their shooters,” said Ateneo coach Norman Black. “We played good perimeter defense, we challenged shots.”

The Archers were miserable from beyond the arc all game long, making only two of their 18 attempts. In contrast, the Eagles buried seven of 19, with Long hitting four of five. The Faith Academy alum led all scorers with 22 points, including nine during a pivotal first-quarter run that erased an early 9-4 DLSU lead.

Joel Tolentino’s three-pointer had given the Archers that five-point lead, but the Eagles went on to score 25 of the next 27 points, and before La Salle knew what had hit them, they were already staring at an 18-point deficit.

“They came out with a little more energy at the start of the game,” Long said. “But once we matched that energy, things settled into place.”

The closest the Archers could come was 14 at the start of the third, 39-25, before the Eagles responded with a 16-4 run behind Nico Salva, Long and Arthur Dela Cruz to open up their widest margin at 55-29, 4:27 left in the third.

La Salle was so out of synch offensively that they only made 15 of 29 free throws, with Maui Villanueva typifying their struggles by going 1 of 8.

The win allowed Ateneo to move up to second spot with an 8-2 mark, just a game behind pacesetting FEU. It also extended the Eagles’ winning streak to six.

La Salle dropped to 6-4 and saw its lead over NU reduced to two games with four games left to play.

Dela Cruz backed up Long with 10 points and 10 rebounds, while Buenafe had 9 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Jovet Mendoza scored all his 20 points in the second half to lead the Archers, with no one else hitting double figures.

The scores:

Ateneo 74 – Long 22, dela Cruz 10, Buenafe 9, Salva 9, Monfort 7, Salamat 6, Golla 6, Austria 3, Escueta 2, Chua 2, Erram 0, Tiongson 0.

DLSU 57 – Mendoza 20, Villanueva 7, Andrada 6, Tampus 5, Tolentino 5, Atkins 5, Marata 4, de la Paz 3, Webb 2, Vosotros 0, Paredes 0, Elorde 0, Ferdinand 0, Banal 0.

Quarter scoring: 19-11, 39-21, 61-40, 74-57.

Congrats to Ateneo. Bawi na lang kami next game. Animo LaSalle!

  • edge says:

with this win, three-peat is very much possible, and by the way FEU and Adamson are struggling with lowerseeded teams, winning the third straight title isn’t that impossible. more hardwork. more teamplay.

    • bubsky says:

      ONE BIG FIGHT

    • alf says:

Overall, Ateneo and FEU are pretty much the same. FEU has the better players, but Ateneo has the better basketball team.

      • edge says:

who do you think will get the twice to beat advantage? Ateneo still has to play FEU and Adamson. it’s a good thing UE win against Adamson, that could spell the difference,

        • alf says:

With the way things are going now, I don’t think Adamson has a chance against Ateneo anymore.

Now in the FEU game, Ateneo just needs 3 points over FEU to gain the top spot because of the quotient rule. If say, FEU and Ateneo finishes with the same record (with Ateneo winning the last game of the season against FEU), There’ll be another Ateneo Lasalle match up!

          • Outback Jock says:

Kirk Long on Alex Nuyles. Erik Salamat on the point guards. Three men rotation on Eric Camson.

        • UEans says:

I believe that FEU still has the advantage to go in the first spot. UE will play against Ateneo. Pre, watch ka nalang sa thursday. If they UE beat Ateneo, UE will be on the 4th spot of standings.
          1. FEU
          2. Ateneo
          3. Adu
          4. UE

End of second round if UE beat Ateneo on Thurs.

          • edge says:

that made me laugh, that’s a little ambitious, UE needs to win their 4 remaining games. by the looks of it, they can only beat UP. UE will lose to Ateneo, DLSU and NU. and all La Salle needs is 1 win probably against UST or UE. and they have a huge chance to up their record if they beat ADAMSON and FEU.

          • alf says:

Pare. Ewan ko nalang ah. UE on Ateneo? Hello? Hahahaha.

          • redcard says:

            ehem

          • REDTUBE says:

pano ba yan panalo UE hhahaha..>DANGEROUS WARRIORS

          • einhander says:

            ALF!!! WHAT SAY YOU AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

          • RedWhistles says:

What about now?! If DLSU will win a single game, not end of the round yet. Possible tied at 4th. UE and LasaLLe.

    • jinda says:

      wow ha.parang ndi kayo nag-struggle against UE.nung 1st round.

    • recca recca summa says:

oh yeah? i don’t think so. do you think ateneo is not also struggling with lowerseeded teams. how about your game against ue. that was so close and yet you think they’re not struggling? c’mon.

  • josherz says:

Nice game to both teams! Sayang it wasn’t as tense as the 1st meeting.

But I smell a 1-game suspension coming up from one of the players..

  • legal_eagle says:

san na kaya yung nagsasabing chicken dinner? hmm…Ateneo may be peaking at the right time. What a great performance by the eagles, that was a massacre. GO ATENEO!

  • Boozesss says:

San na si Tio Ewan? :)) Baka nabilaukan sa broken arrows “dinner: niya. :)) HAHAHAHA

  • Buen Api says:

Ako ang kakain ng lechon manok mamaya.

  • Blue says:

All around game, great defense, great team ball.

    • tayks says:

Well with Long trailing him all day i wouldn’t be surprised na 4 points lang. Over all it was defense that got the win and the blowout for us. May halong alat din ang dlsu, ilan na nga lang yung libre nilang mga tira, di pa pumapasok. Hope we do not grow too overconfident. UE is next and they’ve been playing the top teams very well.

      Go Ateneo One Big Fight.

      • edge says:

I don’t know where to attribute the win, Ateneo’s defense or is it that la salle played really bad. it’s really important for Ateneo to get an early lead against UE. UE is a dangerous team when they’re within striking distance.

    • bubsky says:

      pls no excuses

    • alf says:

Hindi kayang lampasan nila nuyles at alvarez si long at salamat.

When the match up with FEU comes around as well, Kirk Long should be the one to guard RR Garcia this time para sindak.

  • Wesley says:

just goes to show the 1st round game was a fluke :p you don’t beat admu and not pay for it big time the next time you go up against the blue eagles.

remember UP in last year’s eliminations. massacred in the 2nd round game.

remember UE in the finals series. massacred in game 3.

same thing with dlsu. massacred in the 2nd round LOL

i’m sure greg slaughter enjoyed the slaughter hahahahaha

    congrats eagles. OBF!

  • That Important Defensive Rebound says:

Congrats Blue Eagles. As they say, Revenge is Best Served Cold.

    • LovesToSpooge says:

Revenge is indeed a dish best served cold. ;9 – Let’s hope every other team took notes on how easy it is to pick apart this so-called “La Salle Basketball” their pretty courtside reporter (though Jessica’s way hotter) keeps droning on about (‘supwithat) and put these archers out of their misery. Great game, Blue Eagles! This is how we do it! ONE BIG FIGHT!

  • Hail mary squad says:

    Great performance by ateneo. Masterpiece!

    OBF!

  • RED COMET says:

    @That Important Defensive Rebound

That has a familiar ring to it. Hahaha!

    Congratulations Blue Eagles.

You sound like an old friend of mine…MMP.

  • Spidersquashed says:

Webb practically won the game for us. Thanks for giving us the ball. HAHA!

    • Outback Jock says:

      Hahahaha!!
I remember in the 3rd quarter.
Joshua Spider Webb entered the game with that fire in his eyes, aggressiveness in his face, even went up to Almond Vosotros and gave the rookie a piece of his mind, then took the ball, attacked, then lost the ball to Emman Monfort to Kirk Long on a fastbreak lay up!
      Oh, comedy.

  • OBF says:

Great defense, great offense. Almost a perfect game by the Eagles. Too bad Salva and Salamat weren’t able to join the party… the lead could’ve been 30.

Aside from Mendoza, DLSU showed no heart. Looked like they gave up 2 mins in the third. The refs showed more passion in closing the gap than they did. Tsk, tsk. I also think Dindo shuffled his team too much.

Kirk Long is our MVP. In the first game, everything went downhill when he fouled out… this time around, he made sure he made it ’til the end. Art dela Cruz was also a big factor on both ends… he’s playing like he’s been on the team for years.

Many games to play though. No room for complacency. Eyes on the prize boys.

  • halakajan says:

Nagpa-ice cream kasi agad nung round 1 e.

  • Dennis says:

Any site kung saan makakapanood ng replay.

  • That Important Defensive Rebound says:

If ever Arthur De La Cruz stayed with the San Beda College, I personally think that he will never be as good as this, and very early in his Collegiate career. Art will just be the Red Lions’ 3rd string small forward.

So to Art De La Cruz, good game, good job, and good choice.

    • Nighthawk says:

Before the start of the season, Dela Cruz was destined to be either a 3rd string small forward or a 4th string power forward. But that very good first impression he had in the opening game versus FEU endeared him to the coaching staff who rewarded him with significant minutes ever since…..and he has never disappointed.

    • Outback Jock says:

I’m very impressed with this rookie, Art Dela Cruz. Somewhat reminds me of Mac Mac Cardona and Arwind Santos.

      • Dragon Fly says:

And he is not even showcasing his 3-point shooting prowess yet…..

      • d17 says:

I’m most impressed with his aggresiveness and poise whenever he plays. And he plays excellent defense, too. I think he’ll be a star for ADMU. Medyo unorthodox lang tumira, pero high percentage naman…

        • tayks says:

Agree with you the defense. lakas niya manggulat sa press e. siya lang ata nagprepress sa atin. one man haha. i guess defense is what coach black saw in him. Black prefers defense over offense anytime of the day, thats why we see bacon as a main stay last year because of his defensive prowess. however this year, masmadami na atang better defenders.

  • kobes says:

who are the players ateneo are getting the next couple of years?

    • 4thYearEagle says:

I’m Atenean but I was really sad to see La Salle perform so bad, especially Joseph Marata – a very close cousin of mine, couldn’t buy a shot. Poor spacing and player rotation by Dindo, He was totally out classed by black in this one. A little inside info, Joseph was suffering more than just a flu, but I don’t think I could disclose that here.

Good luck in the coming games La Salle, I really hope for a Ateneo – La Salle finals.

      ONE BIG FIGHT!

      • PurpleJen says:

Oo nga. Kahit matalo pa La Salle ng paulit-ulit o kahit ano pa man, mas masarap pa din manood kapag La Salle-Ateneo ang laban.

Sana kahit underqualified ang Archers umabot man lang sila sa ilan pang games versus Ateneo this season.

        • sexyKrista says:

how can you enjoy watching a lopsided game!! you make me laugh my dear!! if you are Lasalista fans.. can you manage to make a single smile if your down by 26 point? Its better to face other team and win rather to lose to your favorite opponent!!

          • PurpleJen says:

No problem for me watching my team get hammered by 26 points. Yes, I can still manage to smile because this is just a basketball game. I know what’s wrong with the team, and besides I’m not expecting too much from the Archers. You can’t blame me if games against other teams is not entertaining enough for me. Ateneo has an excellent coach and line-up. Lastly, stop telling me what to do. Peace.

      • grass-is-green says:

That’s the gentleman Atenean, magnanimous in victory. La Salle will be back. Animo La Salle!

    • d17 says:

The new players of Ateneo next year are Greg Slaughter, Keifer Ravena, Gwynne Capacio, PJ Siarot plus a MVP of the Visayan HS league. You gotta hand it to ADMU’s recruitment… Outstanding!

May balita na after next year, yung kapatid ni Jeric Teng na si Jeron, ADMU daw and tuloy…

      • RED says:

Baser Amer is one foot in inside the eagle’s nest. he will leave the Lion’s den after Highschool.

        • croaking parrot says:

hindi kaya mag-end up like tampus of la salle (amer’s jrs. rival from letran) who’s lost in a bigger man’s game? we’ll have to see, bata pa naman sila, but we all like their run and gun offensive game. mga pure scoring machine mga ito given the right sets and breaks.

        • fishball says:

@ croaking parrot – perhaps the reason why tampus is not succeding yet in college ball is because of his brand of play. in the juniors he used to barrel his way inside and he was successful at it, but with a much bigger and heavier opponents this may not be effective.

on the other hand baser is more of a play maker, with a slashing potential, which for his size and speed maybe effective as well in the bigger boys league.

        • RED says:

          Escudo,
if that would be the case then good for Beda. at least may continuity na sa program nila. for the two decades, laging iniiwan ng Red Cub players ang Red Lions creating a big hole to beda’s basketball programs. FEU, La Salle, UP and Ateneo benefited from the Red Cubs exodus.

yes, Baser Amer is playmaker. he can also shoot and drive. Second coming of LA Tenorio. Meron bank balita kay Tabique? former red cub and fighting maroon? he was diagnosed with cancer before. magaling syang player eh.

      • ce-blue-ano says:

HS MVP from Cebu is Mark Joven Tallo from CIT.

  • Outback Jock says:

This is the same Blue Eagles I witnessed during the Fil Oil Invitationals.

  • Eric Cartman says:

the refs actually worked harder than the archers. obvious na may hinahabol sa mga tawag nila. how the hell can monfort’s head offensive foul his defenders arm?

next time, wag masyadong obvious na iba kayong among pinaglilingkuran.

  • PurpleJen says:

Yun pa nga yung nakakatamad sa game. Laki na nga ng lamang, maya’t maya pa ang free throws. Di tuloy ganun ka-exciting manood unlike Game 1.

  • boyBlu3 says:

austia scored 3 pts. ferdinand zer00ooo.

panalo ako sa pustahan with my la sallian cousin.

    • riverphoenix says:

panalo ako sa Pustahan..thank you Bacon for your 3 points against Ferdinand!

    • boyBlu3 says:

hamon ni pinsan next time, if ever the blues and greens meet again, +2 kay ferdinand pero doblado panalo ko pag ma out-score again ni bacon si ferdi. kakasa ba ko? ummmmm….

      • Dragon Fly says:

Ferdinand is a joke. La Salle sure can’t wait for the entry of 6’7″ former RP Youth player Norbert Torres next year.

        • bubsky says:

yah and wait for slaughter entry too 7’0″ a national gilas player, hehe

        • bubsky says:

          then don’t get too excited

        • berdeng langgam says:

nakakaawa naman na talaga si ferdinand, he’s gotten worse than malabes and for sure there’s no future for him in the pros the way he plays his last uaap games. parang walang inspirasyon, wala bang magandang kikay na nagpapalundag ng ugat nya? i hope he has carried his academics well to land a good job or business career someday. his performance could be signalling the last of his playing days. what’s with him really?

          • That Important Defensive Rebound says:

Pure Indonesian si Ferndinand. In other words, Import. So there no way that he will not be in the Pros.

          • Outback Jock says:

            @ That Important Board,
Huh? Ano? Mali yata sinabi mo ah.

          • LovesToSpooge says:

His relatives must’ve breathed a collective sigh of relief that he spared them from all sorts of embarrassment with his decision not to wear their surname on his jersey. (what’s the story on that anyway?..)

          • Outback Jock says:

Remember former UE Red Warrior Rudy Lingganay?
He played for an Indonesian team as an import in the Asean Basketball League. The name at the back of his jersey was Rudy, and not Lingganay.
And we see Ferdinand, an Indonesian.
I don’t know the exact idea, but I think that says something.

          • LovesToSpooge says:

@Outback Jock – Thanks for the heads-up on that one. Reminded me of Brazilian football stars like Pelé, Ronaldinho and Kaka – interesting!

      • egg_n_bacon says:

@boy blue – just do it. bakas ako.

  • Tax says:

The La Salle commissioner should really stop making all these absurd rules and stick to FIBA rules. The situation in the UP game should have been called for a violation and the held ball situation in the last ADMU-DLSU match-up that won the game for the Archers should have resulted in a jump ball.

    • Outback Jock says:

Agree, pare! I think the Green Archers Violates the lane on purpose. And I think that that’s how La Salle beat Ateneo, and of course Marata’s hot shooting, in the first round. And now other teams have followed suit.

  • Green Lion & Red Archer says:

As the eagle goes FLY FLY FLY the Archer goes CRY CRY CRY. Awaken the great ANIMO! Lets mend our wounds and aim our arrows HIGH. Shoot the eagle down and feast on their fried drumsticks.

    • andy says:

bakit may bedista kunwari lasalian nakikisawsaw d2? thread to ng magka rival na skuls. totoo nga sabi sa ibang thread. na hijack ng beda animo cheer ng dlsu so pag nag chant ng animo mga bedista feeling lasalian sila so ka rival na ng admu.

HOw can you ‘shoot the eagle down’ when most of you couldn’t even buy a bucket last night. LMFAO

  • pipit says:

  • Ad-me says:

  • berdeng langgam says:

too much credit is given to defense as the key to winning games. it’s not actually defense that wins games, it’s a consistently productive offense. no matter how tough your defense is, the opposing team almost always gets a shot up in the air. what won the game for ateneo was their high accuracy that spells withering firepower. don’t tell me la salle didn’t play good defense, that’s silly. ateneo’s offense was just too much, and la salle simply didn’t have it on the other end. you see how they even miss free throws? enough of this overplayed scientific defense bull. basketball is a scoring game and you need points to win, not just defend well.

  • croaking parrot says:

you’re right in many ways. really, despite tight defense, what shot hasn’t gone up the air and hit the hoop? most shots do hit the hoop, but the question is: do they go into the hoop? and that’s how you distinguish the shooting accuracy factor. despite any kind of defense, you will almost always get the chance to shoot and la salle had so many of them – that didn’t go in. that’s why they lost on offense.

  • alf says:

Ateneo will win this year’s crown. Ateneo is on the road for a five-peat.

  • starkz_quatro says:

the ADMU will win the crown haha :))

  • Outback Jock says:

Sinong gumawa nang schedule nang 2nd round of elims? La Salle will battle the FEU Tamaraws next!? Sobra naman yata yun. 97% talo.

  • berdeng langgam says:

Just enjoy each others company, for those branding another school with the tagline social climber, check out collegiate basketball’s historical timeline one more time.

    • maverick says:

well what can i say Mike for obvious reasons these are just youngsters who really don’t care about college hoops history. They say what they wanna say without any tact what so ever. So let them be, anyway it will all boil down to whoever is going to take home the trophy and so then shall the bashing of other schools finally stop.

  • afable-arnaiz-morales-ross says:

    Really sweet.Boomalaka!

  • legal_eagle says:

gaano katagal si erram maglalaro para sa ateneo? sana maturuan ito ni coach norman, sayang ang height. walang confidence e, sana matutukan. tsaka dapat mag-appeton ito. hindi ko malaman sino mas payat e, siya o si andrada.

  • kobes says:

Ateneo five peat? very funny. Three peat? very possible. Lasalle has so many good rookies coming as well that it worries me how they’ll figure out the playing time. Van Opstal, 6’9 canadian/fil Torres, 6’3 Fil Am slasher/shooter Marcelino, and a few other surprises that includes African American Andrew Harris.

    • legal_eagle says:

rookies rookies roookies. lumang tugtugin na yan. tapos pag natalo kayo sasabihin nanaman “bata yung team e”. hay nako. nakakasawa.

    • bowtoblue says:

the five-peat is very much possible. kahit kung may van opstal, torres or whoever pa kunin niyo as long as ateneo has coach norman and you have coach dindo kami ang mananalo.

      • Gangrene says:

As long as Ateneo has their own line-up now+ Ravena, Capacio, Slaughter and some more next year. 5 peat? Possible.

    • AteneanAllTheWay says:

if ateneo finds a way and wins this year, then a 5 peat is very possible. by next year the only ones leaving will be eric and jumbo. and rumor is, bacon, tonino, and carlo balmaceda will graduate on time and won’t play their 5th year. so that leaves many slots for our high school and provincial standouts, and big greggy. not to mention seasoned champions ryan, nico, and justin with two years left. and emman and kirk with one more. that’s a solid line up with skill and experience no rookie-laden lasalle team can match up to.

van opstal just has the height, but he was outplayed by eaglet al bugarin in the juniors, and he’s just part of our seniors team b. not a big deal. btw, since when has lasalle had a legit bigman? adonis sta. maria? jun cabatu? ferdinand?? maybe rico, but he was athletic and didn’t play like a big man, so he’s different. no other coaching staff can develop bigmen like coach norman. stop threatening us with your good-but-hypothetical rookies. next year, no team will be as prepared for another championship than the eagles.

      • alf says:

I think they already found a way. During the first few games wala pa, pero ever since their last loss against Lasalle, parang unstoppable na.

Anyway, we are all excited for the next two years because of Ateneo’s domination.

  • bigf9779 says:

Sir hindi ganyan ang “ASAL” ng isang Bulldog….Just support our school and no need to say bad things against other school pls…Alumni ako ng NU pero hindi ko gawain manira sa ibang school…for your info na rin po…we lost to DLSU sa 2nd round….GO NU BULLDOGS!!!

    • edge says:

Mbe is putting up Arwind Santos-like numbers, with a little more consistency and NU making it to the final 4 next year, he could be the next MVP.

      • bigf9779 says:

your right EDGE, with the additions of Bobby Park’s Son, standing i think at 6’3″-6’4″, it will be a big help to the NU squad, plus the additions also of two former UST tiger cubs, labing-isa and Neypes…GO BULLDOGS!

        Congrats to the Blue Eagles!

      • Outback Jock says:

Ilang years po eligible to play si Mbe for the National Bulldogs? No offense, but I want that rookie Khobuntin to shine more than anyone else in the Bulldogs lineup.

      • alf says:

Will it be him or Greg Slaughter? Even if his stats will be slightly better, more credits will be given to the real contender.

  • revs68 says:

Slaughter doesn’t worry me one bit. The guy needs to work his butt off to become the dominant player that he is said to become. Besides, 2 years lang siya at the most. you put a double team of Van Opstal and Torres at the frontcourt, Andrada on the wing spot, Slaughter will not have an easy time against La Salle.

    • jam daddy says:

i dont think van opstal will play for DLSU. i heard wala na ata siya dito sa pinas. torres is a good addition sa frontline ng DLSU. Ateneo played a good game and they deserve all the credit. ANIMO LA SALLE

    • Gangrene says:

Weh, d nga? Di mo ba alam na 2-time MVP si Slaughter at siya ang nag panalo sa school niya for 2 championships.

And must I remind you na he plays for Gilas. Mga kinakalaban niya mga 7 footer rin o mas malaki pa.

Kumpara kay Slaughter mga totoy lang si Torres at Van Opstal.

      • Slaughter House says:

Haha, lakas kasi ni Torres at Andrada eh. RP Youth team daw kasi.

    • Slaughter House says:

LOL! Are you really serious when you compared Slaughter to the likes of Van Opstal, Torres and Andrada? FYI, Slaughter is a 7-footer behemoth whose play is awarded 2 MVP’s, praises from respected personalities particularly Coach Toroman, and a vital slot in the Smart Gilas team.

And with Coach Black at the helm, I guess all Ateneo needs to do is win the championship this season to ensure that it will have a 5-peat.

      • REDTUBE says:

weak ang stamina ni slaughter FYI, pag napagod na yan di na bumababa yan, napanuod ko dati laban ng UE vs UV green lancer, kay espiritu nga lang hirap sya ehh although malakas sya rumebound syempre sa height nya

    • alf says:

But Ateneo, because of Slaughter, will have an easy time with Lasalle. Enough said.

  • Clarion Call says:

  • boy_USTe says:

    congrats to the Blue Eagles!!!

  • sohcatoa says:

LOL everyone is so high on Slaughter HAHAHA

    • Padre Damaso says:

^ hahahah can you say…overrated? haha! i much more afraid of the GOD LIKE Kiefer than Slaughter…

      • alf says:

Kiefer honestly will need an adjustment year. He will be a starter at shooting guard for the eagles but he will still have jitters and will play bad defense. He will also need to bulk up more so he could really belong.

Slaughter is proven internationally. Kiefer is the best player out of high school. I don’t know why you are comparing International opponents with local high school opponents.

        • Gangrene says:

Slaughter would obviously adjust better (does he even need to adjust? He has played against international-level basketball and international-caliber teams, UAAP would have to be just a playground for him) than Kiefer. At tama ka dyan, actually maliit lang si Kiefer at medyo payat pa. He’d definitely need to shape up.

    • Slaughter House says:

With the way Rabeh killed La Salle’s frontcourt the past 2 years, I just don’t know why anyone won’t be so high on Slaughter. Seriously, why not?

      • tayks says:

Black has a scary eye for talent. He got nonoy but he wanted Slaughter more than Nonoy. If Black can teach butter fingers rabeh a thing or two, what more to a 6 11 guy who has international experience.

  • Blue eaglet says:

Kirk Long > Joseph Marata. we all know marata wouldn’t have scored those 3-pointers if long had not fouled out 1st game
Coach Norman > Coach dindo, no need to discuss this

props to coach dindo for his effort to reshuffle his players. alam niyang sabog yung mga rotation e.
FEU has not been playing as dominantly as advertised and might just lose to the Eagles if they don’t watch it.

  • admuhater says:

Erap ba is an alumnus of ADMU? Saw him yesterday at Araneta wearing blue.. hmmmm, if he is really from ADMU then it only goes to show that…….. You know what I mean..

    • AteneanAllTheWay says:

hahaha.. erap was kicked out in grade school, i think. feeling atenista lang yun.

    • bubsky says:

yup he is, it only takes a h.s. grad of admu to become a president, we’ll thank God dyan kayo mga brothers sa dlsu at least meron kailangan gumawa ng mga iuutos , peace

      • Blue says:

ok lang yan. bottomline, si Noynoy pangulo natin…at ano school niya?

      • alf says:

try checking again. There are the popular Lasallians who have become owners, but count the number of Ateneans who are up there versus those from Lasalle. Baka maiyak ka.

        • bicky says:

          @ alf

hahaha your comment caught my attention. i studied in the states but Im 100% sure that there is no way that there more successful businessmen from Ateneo than Lasalle. First off, Im sure you already know that Ateneo specializes in Law and Liberal Arts, and La Salle, Business (it is top 10 in Asia among Business Schools). Secondly, the Chinese Filipinos own virtually everything now and majority of them are neither from La Salle or Ateneo.

Besides, it isn’t fair to say right away who’s Uni is better just because an alumni/graduate became president or became a hot shot businessman or whatever. That’s just… sickening.

This website is for basketball so those who want to attack each other and whine on who is the better school should really just eff off. Really.

          god bless you all

        • alf says:

          @bicky.

Alarming? Yes I do know that Lasalle is known for business but that does not necessarily mean that they have dominated the business world. in fact, I do know that there are more new grads from Lasalle who become SME owners than Ateneans who get recruited as MTs which is why Ateneo fresh grads are ranked number one in employability rating. We know that there are so much successful politicians and lawyers from Ateneo, which actually shadows the hidden truth.

Let’s go small. Kindly count the number of Ateneans in the Forbes top 40 richest Filipinos versus those from Lasalle.
Okay na? Or do I still have to pinpoint who’s who?

It doesn’t really mean anything if the Ayalas are number 3 and Danding Cojuangco is number 4 (Which by the way, Cojuangcos are mostly Atenean, Danding is just the Chairman of San Miguel, meaning, the Corporation is more Atenean). What matters is the quantity, because quantity says more. In fact, the dominant Henry Sy is number one, and he’s from the Atenean Montinola owned FEU. But does this make FEU the best in business?

Next time, please know your facts.

        • wami says:

majority of the Chinese-Filipino people here in the Philippines send their children to DLSU. That’s why DLSU is now becoming a Chinese community.

      • wami says:

but was he a good president? napatalsik nga siya because of graft and corruption eh.. what about his English language that he learned from ADMU hs?? can you say he’s fluent?

    • alf says:

He was kicked out of high school. He was an Atenean, but not an alumnus.

  • ey di yu says:

    grats Ateneo :D

  • baurdur says:

no offense, but why in the world will bobby parks join NU and not other big name schools? just wondering though. again, no offense to NU. :D

Another thing, why do people think ateneo will get 5 straight and only talk about DLSU as their opponents, how about other schools? do they have no chance of improvement? i think not :D but i sure do hope for DLSU ADMU finals in the years to come!
    ANIMO! :D

    • Gangrene says:

Because they’re peaking at the “right time”, and not are pretending to be “over-achievers” because they’re a legit defending champion team whose caliber is at par with this season’s no. 1 seeded team. Baka nga Ateneo pa ang maging no. 1 after the 2nd round kung magkataon.

  • Mike Abasolo says:

Kirk Long’s previous career high was against UST with 21-points last Aug. 23, 2009 which they won, 80-70. The largest winning margin by Ateneo over DLSU, 80-55, was on Sept. 14, 1996.

The Green Archers has set a team record with the most misses from the Free Throw this season including the most no. of misses from the 3-pt area.

    • Outback Jock says:

Baka naman nilalagnat ang buong La Salle team? Erin Torrejon, their pretty morena courtside reporter, said in her first report that her team looked silent and tense. Baka gigiginaw?

  • TrueBlueBlood says:

Dapat sa Ateneo na lang mag Team Manager si Beaver Lopez para di sayang 1million pesos a month na ginagastos nya sa Archers!

  • theGREENandGOLD says:

This time they made sure there’s no Houdini act down the stretch towards endgame. =)

  • Ateneo_Convert says:

Congratulations to the Blue Eagles last game. They have their work cut out against La Salle…Kudos to the Green Archers, bawi na lang next time against another powerhouse team in FEU this Wednesday (if they can beat them, what a way to recover their confidence back)…To Ateneo, play Adamson as if it’s a do-or-die game!

  • bicky says:

awesome game. Ateneo played flawless basketball against a La Salle team that showed it’s true colors, inexperience.
La Salle needs to man up for next season and so that things will get interesting.

Btw, why do i feel as if the level of talent for every team has declined the past decade?

  • 6_peat says:

pwede…crucial this year. pag nalusutan ang feu, at pagdating ni revena, good for another 3 years ang Admu ^_^
pero 1 year at a time muna, baka mausog.
