ORMOC CITY, Leyte – BASKETBALL is truly a spectacle enjoyed by almost every Filipino no matter where you are in the archipelago.
With Ormoc City Mayor Eric Codilla, Councilor Rodel Capati and Congressman Dodong Codilla Jr. (Fourth District) in attendance, San Sebastian College-Recoletos and University of Sto. Tomas put away their rivals to advance to the Philippine Collegiate Champions League Elite Eight last November 30, 2009 at the Ormoc City Superdome in Ormoc City, Leyte.
The NCAA Season 85 Champions, San Sebastian College-Recoletos Golden Stags managed to pull things together when it mattered and prevented a major upset against the University of San Carlos Warriors in overtime. The final score was 76-68 in a well-attended affair.
Jimbo Aquino once again came through in the clutch scoring a crucial layup in overtime to give momentum to the Stags. The NCAA Finals MVP and this year’s All-Star Game MVP finished with 15 points. Ian Sangalang had a big double-double performance with 15 points and 13 rebounds, while Pamboy Raymundo came close to having a triple-double ending up with 11 points, eight rebounds and nine assists. Raymundo had a chance to win the game for the Stags at the end of regulation but missed a potential game-winning layup from the left side of the basket.
Sam Hermosa had a splendid showing for the USC Warriors leading all scorers in the game with 23 points. CESAFI Mythical Five member Giovanni Padillo contributed 15 points.
In the second game, the University of Sto. Tomas Growling Tigers spoiled the coaching debut of Vergel Meneses by defeating Jose Rizal University, 64-62. Khasim Mirza and UAAP Season 72 MVP, Dylan Ababou combined for 39 points and 20 rebounds.
Marc Cagoco, who played his final game for the Heavy Bombers, was only fielded in for six minutes, while John Wilson and James Sena were not with the team. Joe Etame, meanwhile, was on the bench in street clothes.
The scores:
First game
San Sebastian 76 – Aquino 15, Sangalang 15, Abueva 13, Raymundo 11, del Rio 7, E. Gatchalian 5, Maconocido 4, Bulawan 4, Najorda 2, Maiquez 0, Semira 0.
USC 68 – Hermosa 23, Padillo 15, Cortes 13, Cantonao 5, Padayao 3, Gallarde 3, Panerio 2, Codilla 2, Bakker 2, Otida 0, Joven 0, Bercede 0, Bautista 0.

nice one! bring it on! Go USTe!
aba, si Aerial Voyager na pla ang coach ng JRU! what happened to the previous coach, diba kamukha ni Pichay un? (tama ba?! haha.)
NICE GAMES!! OT in the 1st game then close fight sa 2nd game.. worth watching..:) tnx na rin sa delayed telecast hehe
garbe naman ka-jam pack ung Ormoc Gym all-out tlaga yung supporters ng USC. sayang lang naka-breakaway na SSCR in OT.
its now ncaa vs uaap in Elite8!haha.
“Joe Etame, meanwhile, was on the bench in street clothes.” (kelangan ba tlaga mention `to eheh)
Langhiya, repeat ng final 4 ang uaap dito ha? pero walang twice to beat ngayon, both knock out games to. Exciting!
Natanggal! At Mapua ang darkhorse, wow, in-eliminate nila ang Slaughter-powered UV! Kun sabagay, matanda na nga si Greg.
Uaap and Ncaa are still the leagues to beat in national championships, with the former having the advantage. Baka nga all uaap pa ang finals uli like last and most of the previous years.
and congrats kay coach Vergel Meneses, nice start for a rookie coach.
Good job coach Chito,..
Nice..
@mccoy
yep, si pido ang nag-coach sa game na ‘to. ang wala lang sa mga players ay si camus. this game against JRU is probably USTe’s best performance i’ve seen dahil bukod sa nanalo sila, nandun ulit yung teamwork evidenced by the frequent ball rotation and decent defensive calls. this is something na hindi natin nakita sa USTe nung huling limang laro nila bago ito.
you have to give it na rin to Ababou and Mirza na despite their commitments to Gilas and Patriots (ABL) respectively, ay pinili pa rin nilang maglaro with USTe sa PCCL. last hurrah, kumbaga. besides, estudyante pa rin sila ng USTe kaya wag nang kwestiyunin yung commitments nila sa ibang liga. as for JRU’s ‘star’ players Sena and Wilson, where were they? lol. may laro ba sila sa NBA kahapon kaya di sila nakarating?
amen to that king_cardinal!!!
final four prediction
ateneo vs mapua
sscr vs feu
finals prediction
ateneo vs feu
champion – ateneo
San Beda will be the underdog against Mapua because they don’t have the benefit of an intact line up. Hermida, Taganas, Tirona and Marcelo are not available for this tournament, those 4 equate to at least 15-18 pts, 10-12 rebounds and 5-7 assists collectively.
@daniel injury
its not a foot injury, its a leg injury, his third leg that is.
GOOD LUCK AND GOD BLESS UST!!!!!
GO 4 THE GOLD!!!!!
GO DYLAN!!!UR SO GWAPO AND CUTE!!!
sna wag ng gwing panggabi ung telecast!!!!!!!!!
arriba letranista!

Good job for the Heavy Bombers.

Interesting…
Ahahahahaha!
ANIMO!
pakyu hellboy, go to hell
The success and future of the PCCL rest upon ALL the teams taking this tourney as the REAL post season, much like colleges a nd universities in the US take greater pride in their respective showings in March madness over winning their league championship.
To the teams…
NEVER TAKE OPPONENTS LIGHTLY especially those you’re not very familiar with. Look at La Salle, Baste, UV and JRU.
After sweeping the Zonals in Bicol, the Green Archers looked like they underestimated the Ray Guevarra-and-RJ Jazul-less Letran Knights and got eliminated. San Sebastian got a scare of sorts before pulling off an
OT-win over the USC Warriors. 8-time CESAFI champion UV Green Lancers succumbed to the smaller, underdog, un-seeded but hustling and scrapping Mapua ardinals. As for JRU, notwithstanding supposed discipline issues, did they expect to win over UST without playing league MVP John Wilson and JR Sena? Well its was a close one, considering the Growling Tigers
had Mirza and UAAP MVP Dylan Ababou giving them an a favorable advantage.
STAY HEALTHY – Especially true for San Beda. Can the Lions expect to go deep into this tournament if starters Borgie Hermida, Taganas, & Dave Marcelo
and now 6th man Sudan Daniels – are all injured? Well injuries are unplanned. But still..
As any championship coach would say, there’s part luck/providence in winning ballgames, that is the gift from Above of not having any key player on the team suffer a mishap leading to injury.
RESPECT THE TOURNAMENT – High time to be less parochial, and see if you really are the best in the land.
Coaches, especially from the winning teams, should not treat this as a tune-up for NEXT season, but take pride in discovering that after winning it all in their leagues, they are truly the best of the best.
Good Luck to the Elite Eight teams!
Ahahahahahahahaha!
I am now…
Ahahahahahahaha!
hellboy syoting ni simonsmug of canada. brokebackers.
wala kasing na nood sa venue. lugi at kulang sa sponsors. and most of all maraming kulang sa line up ng mga teams. hindi seryoso mga teams sa tournament.
Totoo! Nakakamatay! Kaya on leave muna siya. Papagamot niya muna ang kili-kili niya! :))
survey lang,
san mas maraming badin
survey lang,
san mas maraming badin
all of the above!
@roda amores
you want to try some 100% dark black hard chocolate bar? you know what they say, when you go black you’ll never go back hahahahaha
FINALS: MIT VS LETRAN, sa intramuros maggagaling aq champion sa PCCL this year.

@bedabuhayncaa
hahahha i agree with you there. unlike in the uaap, final four games plang madami na crowd. at hindi rin naman ganun kalayo ang hatian ng games lalo na sa mga importanteng games. lalo na pag finals.
WAG NYONG BABUYIN UNG WEBSITE NA TO…
Walang Bedista dito.
Walang ibang mga taga-NCAA sa gameface? Bakit?
Nilalangaw thread ng ibang NCAA schools dun. Sa San Beda lang ang aktibo.
hindutan na naman
@Bad Blood, Bad Boy
You’ve got a point. The bombers’ weak links next season is lack of realiable men at the point and inside the paint, although they still have Hayes and Lopez. It’s a good thing for them to play without Sena and Wilson, so they can now find ways to do without them, so in case Wilson doesn’t suit up next NCAA season, which I think is probable, they can work on the lineup that they have now and build on that. Conratulations, Coach Vergel. It’s good to have an alumni to steer the team on JRU’s quest for their next ring after so many years…
None of those nonesense s#\t…
Mabuhay Rizal!
congrats USTE.interesting mathcup sa elite 8.
hopefully kayanin ng ust ang admu… TEAM WORK lang guys…
HAHA!
