Baycats oust Adamson; UC also makes Sweet 16

AFTER enduring a tough UAAP Season 72, Adamson University has suffered yet another close setback.
The Falcons not only got upset by back-to-back, defending NAASCU champion San Sebastian College-Recoletos de Cavite, 88-78, but also got booted out of Philippine Collegiate Champions League play thanks to the quotient system.
A three-way tie between the two protagonists and CESAFI runner-up University of Cebu emerged after the Webmasters disposed of bitter Cebuano rival University of San Jose-Recoletos, 103-86. As a result, UC, SSC-R Cavite and Adamson ended the single round-robin tournament with identical 2-1 records. USJ-R, meanwhile, wound up winless.
UC, which lost to Adamson in Day 1 of zonal play, 78-72, lit up the Jaguars from the get-go with Kevin Juliane sinking four treys in the opening period alone. That set the tone of the game while 6’9 big man June Mar Fajardo dominated the inside to quash any hopes of a Jaguar uprising. Fajardo and Juliane scored 26 points apiece and unknowingly helped the Webmasters wrack up just enough points to secure a Sweet 16 berth for the first time in school history.
For Adamson, it was yet another bitter pill to swallow after losing a ton of UAAP games by the closest of margins. In fact, the Falcons lost all their games by 10 points or less en route to a 5-9 finish in their mother league. Their PCCL conquerors, San Sebastian Cavite, qualified for the Sweet 16 for the second straight year. Last season, the Baycats lost to Colegio de San Juan de Letran in the round of 16.

Ang results kc sa quotient system sa PCCL Cebu Zonals ay: SSC-R Cavite Baycats (1.06), UC Webmasters (1.013), at AdU Falcons (0.951). Puro kc close wins ang mga Falcons ehh…
