Bravo Baste!!! Golden Stags win NCAA Season 85 Title

The San Sebastian Golden Stags completed a sweep of their best of three series against the San Beda Red Lions, 76-61 on October 24, 2009 to clinch their 12th championship title. After winning Game 1 of the Finals last thurs in double overtime with a score of 72-68, the Golden Stags clearly had momentum to win it in Game 2.
The Red Lions were 0 of 15 in the fourth quarter from the field. The Golden Stags capitalized on San Beda’ drought led by Jimbo Aquino with 10 points in the final quarter for a total of 15 points in the 2nd half.
The biggest lead of the Red Lions stood at 12 points, 28-40 early in the third period. Turnovers hurt the three-time defending champions with 26 against San Sebastian’s 14 turnovers.
The Golden Stags grabbed the lead at 59-56, after trailing by 2-points with a triple from Aquino and never looked back. The Golden Stags were in full control with a 10 point margin in the final minutes of regulation, 68-58.
“You got to give it to San Sebastian. They wanted it more so congratulations to them for giving it their all. Nobody expected San Sebastian to win two straight and wipe us out in the Finals. You have to give credit to Ato[ Agustin]. Not to make excuses but I think we couldn’t make a shot in the fourth quarter, wala kaming field goal and we couldn’t shoot.†The Red Lions are losing 5 players to graduation led by Bam Gamalinda, Jay-r Taganas, JR Tecson, Chico Tirona and Jerome Villanueva, said a proud Red Lions Head Coach Frankie Lim who already gave San Beda two NCAA Titles.
“I have to give credit to everyone who has believed in us despite being a very young team. We worked really hard to be in this place. When I accepted the job last November, I worked at my program and luckily it worked. My Players responded well. They were committedâ€, said a jubilant San Sebastian Head Coach Ato Agustin after winning his first collegiate title as a rookie mentor.

San Sebastian Stags created their “Go Baste!” Cheer since the 1970s, wherein “Baste” is a Filipino nickname for Sebastian. The San Sebastian supporters would chant “Go Baste! Go Baste! Go Baste! Go Go Go Go!!” simultaneously. Moreover, this would grant them as the real origin of the said cheer.

Historical daw muna then lipat sila ng UAAP. Hahabulin nila crowns ng Ateneo which is second to Letran when it comes to numbers of crowns in Philippine College Basketball. ITS A GOOD THING YOU GUYS ARE UP BEAT THIS SEASON. I have to say…you have good players like Jimbo and Abueva. Power! Oh oh, maraming kumain ng sinabi nila before na San Beda in a 2-0 sweep; na yung game 1 daw would be a blowout with SBC taking the W, then game2 is a close game for SBC pa din.
Nasan na kaya yung sinasabi nila na heart of a champion? and wala daw tatalo sa championship experience nila?
One more thing… GRADUATED CHAMPIONS? nauna yata yung pag under estimate nyo sa San Sebastian eh, we have our tradition too, and that’s winning it all the way!

Lumalabas ang tunay na kulay nang San Beda kapag natatalo. Ilan beses when they tried to spark a fight with San Sebastian College students. Grabeh sa corner, may mga banner pa and objects thrown at the court.
San Beda was a good team, hindi lang good enough to beat Baste. Pero the Bedans, grabeh… just compeltely uneducated and tasteless. Kaya lagi kayong inaaway at tinutukso nang ibang schools sa NCAA – you guys are fanatics.
Now I do not mean to generalize, I’m sure maraming mga Bedans na also got dissapointed by what their fellow Bedans are doing. Unfortunately, it’s the truth. You guys are loud, conceited PIKONS!

Well said. It’s unfortunate but Bedans need a reality check. It’s really the students that make SBC what it is today. Just be yourself and be humble. Nothing is wrong to be middle class and not sosyal.
Lastly, nothing is wrong if you are a college and not a university. Nothing is wrong if you’re in the NCAA and not in the UAAP. Don’t put down your fellow NCAA schools, because they’re really much better than you.
Be humble… accept the facts.
Tough fight, just not your year.
