With Jimbo Aquino now back in harness after serving his one game suspension acquired during their playoff game against San Beda, the San Sebastian Golden Stags formalized their dream match-up with the three-time defending champs via a 79-64 whiplashing of last year’s runner-up Jose Rizal University in their winner-take-all match on October 19, 2009 at the Filoil Flying V Arena.
“When we lost, we didn’t have a legitimate go-to-guy. That’s where we missed the services of Jimbo [Aquino] in our match last Friday. Everytime we run our plays it will always go to our best gunner andf that’s Jimbo, said a jubilant San Sebastian Head Coach Ato Agustin.
After dropping their game last Oct 16 against the Heavy Bombers, Jimbo Aquino easily scored 7 -points from the opening tip where the Golden Stags held JRU scoreless for almost 5 minutes with a blistering 19-0 run for a commanding 21-point advantage.
Calvin Abueva was a force tallying 10 point, 4 rebounds in just 9 minutes of action in the first half.  JRU was not able to get some decent numbers from their leading MVP candidate John Wilson who  was held to only 8 points from an 18 points per game average.
The Heavy Bombers’ were able to trim the deficit down to within 8-points, 38-46 courtesy of John Njei John Nje at the 6:34 minute mark of the 3rd quarter.
“As I’ve said, Monday will be a different ball game. We would like to have a very light practice but we wanter to execute our plays smoothly in preparation for today’s game, added Coach Ato Agustin.
The Heavy Bombers only had 12 assists in the game compared to San Sebastian’s 22 assists.
San Sebastian marks their first Finals appearance in six years, where they will face a very tall order against the reigning three-peat champions, San Beda College.
“Going into our Finals match with San Beda where Hermida did major damage on us in our two meetings last week, we have thought about our game plan. The Finals will be a different story, continued Coach Ato Agustin.
Calvin Abueva had 18 points, 6 rebounds while Jimbo Aquino added 14 points. JR Sena tallied 13 points for JRU with Marc Cagoco and John Agas combined for 17 points.
