UE ends 2-game setback; Ateneo in solo lead at the expense of archrival De La Salle

The UE Red Warriors are back on the winning track after 2 straight loses with a win over the Adamson University Falcons, 60-56 on Aug 16 at the Araneta Coliseum.
The Falcons established their biggest lead, 27-14, at the 5:46 minute mark of the 2nd period until UE ignited a blistering 13-2 run to close the 1st half, 29-27 in favor of the Red Warriors. UE outscored the Falcons, 16-14 to end the 3rd period at 43-all.
Falcons’ sophomore forward Alex Nuyles stepped up in the 4th period to keep Adamson within striking distance, 56-53. With 23 seconds remaining, Elmer Espirtu’s 1/1 conversion from the charity stripe made it a 7-point lead for UE, 60-53. Pari Llagas, after a single game suspension, had 8 points in the pivotal quarter.
Elmer Espiritu posted another career high with of 20points and 7 rebounds including a season high 6 blocked shots. The Red Warriors out-rebounded the Falcons, 45-36.
In the main game, the Ateneo Blue Eagles repeated over league archrivals, the De La Salle Green Archers, to secure the top spot at at 8-1 with a 81-65 victory at the Araneta Coliseum witnessed by 17, 524 crowd supporters from both sides.
The Blue Eagles led by as much as 23 points, 73-50, after a basket by Rabeh Al Hussaini with 3:33 minutes left in the 4th period. It was Ateneo all the way with De La Salle, sliding down to 5th place at 4-5. This 3rd straight loss marks DLSU’s longest losing streak since Franz Pumaren took over as head coach in 1998.
In the 2nd half, the Eagles showed no mercy as they held the Green Archers to just 43.2% from the field. Peejay Barua led the Green Archers with 16-points (4-points in the 1st half). Al Hussaini led Ateneo with 26 points and 3 rebounds followed by Eric Salamat and Nico Salva with 11-points and 10-points respectively for the Blue Eagles.
“We finally played basketball today, the best in the entire collegiate season. I told them to be humble and that they don’t have to show off. We played defense really well. Coming into this game, we really prepared for the staggering screens of La Salle. Nico [Salva] is really taking advantage of his role as a support player delivering with the quality minutes being given to him. I’m glad we had a strong start in this game and we also ended it strong.†said a jubilant Coach Norman Black.

I saw a team
… whose pressing defense did not work
… that can’t shoot from the outside but keeps on doing it
… whose free throws are eratic

… whose veterans (at least most of them) don’t play well

I think all your points are valid except for the press. Norman black just got press break strategies almost perfected. 2 TOs from the press is the same as the previous game. DLSU’s problem is really their offense and not defense.

Its good that Coach Norman told his boys to be humble. Even him acknowledged na mayayabang talaga some of his players. Ang yayabang kasi talaga naman. I hope naman na this will last. Kung hinde, then it just confirms that it is in their nature na talaga (ang kayabangan).
People enjoys a great game. But more people enjoys on how a game was played (win or loss). If Ateneo cannot be humble enough when playing, they are losers inspite of winning a game.

Kesho ba FEU nasa top, tama bang dapat ng manglait sa ibang teams? Eto lait ko sa iyo. Magbasa-basa ka muna ng history ng UAAP at ng mga archives nito. REMEMBER since the early years ng UAAP, ayaw kayo isali (that was wayback in the 30′s nung naguumpisa pa lang at on going na ang Big 3 assoc) hahahah… kapag wala ang UP dahil sa mass intramurals nila saling ket-ket lang kayo sa Big 3 assoc. Naawa lang ang Big 3 assoc kaya naging UAAP, therefore siningit lang kayo. Did you think ung Top 4 schools bago naging top 4 yan dumaan sa struggles kung ano man sila ngayon? Syempre dami nangyari sa mga schools na yan kaya wag na wag kang manglalait kung wala ka rin namang pagbabasehan either history man or academics. FEU late lang naman yan ulit naging Powewrhouse basketball program eh. Isipin mo na lang kung walang FEU sa UAAP, walang mga hambog na nanlalait dito sa kapwa UAAP schools.

Maaaring si Henry Sy ang pinakamayaman, ngunit di iyon ang batayan ng pagsukat ng edukasyon na ibinibigay ng isang eskuwelahan. Kung tutuusin, masmarami pa rin ang mayayaman na galing sa Ateneo. Isa lang si Henry Sy sa mga pinakamayaman, pero madami ring galing sa UST, DLSU, ADMU at UP. Masmadami silang napoproduce na top notchers sa bar kaya siguro sila ang top 4 schools sa Pilipinas.
Yun lang naman sa tingin ko ang tama. Di ka dapat manghusga ng school kung di mo man lang alam ang panig ng iba. Salamat.

Dudes and dudettes, remember this – a true Tamaraw is really proud of its roots but not to the point that he/she will be boastful and bash other schools just to prove how much he/she loves our alma mater.
Humbleness was taught to us first year pa lang. In which obviously this particular trait is not evident with how this TAMARAW KING guy comduct himself.
