Light Bomber scores 89 points, sets new NCAA record

JOSE RIZAL UNIVERSITY’S high school squad, the Light Bombers, rode on the 89 points scored by guard Joshua Saret en route to a 171-43 demolition job of the Angeles University Foundation Baby Danes in NCAA Season 85 at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan City last July 22.
Saret’s 89 points, a new NCAA record, were accompanied by 11 rebounds, 12 assists and 13 steals. His point total broke that of ex-JRU Light Bomber Keith Agovida, who put up 82 points in a 127-49 rout of Malayan Science High School just last season. Incidentally, Saret and Agovida were teammates in Season 84.
Prior to the game, Saret was averaging 32 points, 7.5 rebounds and 6.8 assists. In the Light Bombers’ last game, he tallied 58 in a 135-58 victory over Emilio Aguinaldo College.

historic event:[AGAIN BY RIZALIANS]
joshua saret,light bomber
scored 89 pts.vs.AUF
db bongga ang JRU,
NEW RECORD n nman!!
Celebrate!
This is definitely not a STATEMENT game. if they can do that against quality opponents maybe. Tsk Tsk. Normally when the game is already decided in the early part of the game, bench na ang pinaglalaro para makakuha din ng experience. Ilalabas na yun star player. It is completely pointless to humiliate your opponents by 128 pts. totally classless.
hay naku… IT JUST HAPPEN COZ IT REALLY HAPPENS…
TEKA Y DO OTHER SCHOOL CANT MAKE THEIR OWN RECORD…
MABUHAY NCAA!
GANUN TALAGA! LETS JUST BE PROUD OF THAT KIDS FUTURE..
SIGURO DUMAAN DIN KAYO SA PAGIGING BATA. AND BESIDES NO NEED TO PUT ANY MALICE ABOUT HIM… PART OF THE GAME…

HAMPAS LUPANG MGA ITO…
PILITIN NYO NA LANG BUHAYIN SI RIZAL.
i strongly agree with u “cub”…
this isn’t a quality or statement game, if Saret can do it against san beda or letran, maybe he’s really tough..
but still a great effort to consider..
Let’s not knock the guy down. This is a legitimate record. This is not a one game socring fluke as Saret is a profilfic scorer averaging more than 30 points a game.
Where is Keith Agovida now? Is he playing for JRU or joining DLSU next season?
@intramuros_frat
The Squires gave Saret and his team their only defeat to date.
@knight MASTER
I agree with you, let’s not put Joshua Saret down. the guy is humble and is respected by his fellow juniors from other schoos. he really just has a good shooting hand and a high basketball IQ.
From what I know, Ateneo has been talking to him even before today’s game versus AUF. since last year, he has been spotted.
Let’s all watch the BEDA Cubs-CSJL Squires showdown on Friday!!!! Top-seeded junior squads will face off. I love the match up between CSJL’s Mark Cruz and Red Cub’s Basher Amer. People have been waiting for this – preview of the championship match!
it’s not about making records. have they won any championship so far? when was the last time JRU won a championship? JRU is so ecstatic that they have broken their own record but they have not achieved anything significant as of yet.
@Heavy Bomber
@knight MASTER
btw, I understand keith agovida is still dealing with academic deficiencies. I also heard that DLSU has already talked to him.
I am NOT a Rizalian but I am happy for these guys.
Also from the grapevine: Baste Staglet’s ace last year, Almond Vosotros might be suiting up for the DLSU archers next year. He is also dealing with academic deficiencies this year. It looks like he opted for DLSU over Ateneo.
@archie, I also agree with you. The Squires-Cubs game will be a preview of the Juniors Championship match. And boldy I say, the Knights-Lions seniors’ match will also be a preview of the seniors finals showdown.
@cub
Bro, the JRU kids do not come from well-off families so they really try very, very hard to make a mark in the juniors league so they can be spotted in the seniors category and play their way through college.
Let’s be happy for these kids when they are given the breaks. I assure you Saret and Agovida are very humble kids. they really just want to have a good future and we thank the NCAA for opening the door to them.
and this is not an achievement. it’s just a consolation.
Saret’s no fluke, consistently explosive yung bata. He reminds me of JRU’s Angelito Ladores from the 70′s. One-man demolition pareho because of their sheer offensive firepower. Hindi biro ito, this is what the Philippines needs. The legendary Shin Dong Pa of Korea practiced 500 shots a day. He was just a decent defensive guy, pero ang opensa nya grabe!!! Keep it up and straight Saret!!!
@archie
yeah sure. i can be happy for these kids.
@archie – academic difficulties? masyado yata academically impaired yung mga players dun. even prime recruit buenafe almost never got to play this season as he had academic difficulties at admu last year. i’m glad admu got him straightened out and showed him that sports and academics can go hand in hand.
dito sa amin, pag di maka cope academically, they are given the chance to shape up or get shipped out. that’s what happened to our top center who played in the CSJL-SBC finals two years ago. we could have used him in last year’s campaign as his eligibility was not yet used up – but that’s the way the ball bounces.
Other NCAA Juniors Stand Outs whom we hope will be spotted by the scouts of the Big Schools for the collegiate league:
1. Jerome Delgado – Baste Staglets
2. Oda Tampus (from Cebu) – CSJL Squires
3. Louie Vigil – JRU Light Bombers
4. Joseph Eriobu (from Dumaguete) – UPHDS Altalettes
5. Yvan Ludovice (from Lucena) – SBC Red Cubs
Calling on the Scouts from the Big Schools! Give these guys a real close look!
I think scoring 89 points, even if the opponent is weak, is still quite a feat. His endurance must be very good. It takes a lot of energy to put up so many shots, let alone make them. Saret’s performance is exceptional especially since he had a quadruple double, which is extremely difficult to do. His 13 steals means he was also working hard on the defensive end of the floor. Let’s give credit where credit is due. But I also do agree, let’s see how he performs against the better and best teams in the league. If he can still score at or about his average of 32 pts, then this guy is the real deal.
I also ask the question: where is Agovida now? Does Chris Soler or any of my other colleagues know the answer? Or any of the readers for that matter.
no question on their capabilities, and its true that various college teams will haggle for them..
i just wish them all the luck, that they are not “over-used” just to break records..
the statistics used as reference is based on a season-long data, not just only a one time, big time game..
@deezappointing offense
Yup, I have seen Joshua Saret’s three-point shooting streaks many, many times. The guy is really gifted. Makes you stand up and clap even when you’re not from his school.
I hope he gets the breaks.
@charlie
I got to chat with the JRU juniors last week and was told Keith Agovida is still fixing his academic deficiencies. Also heard he has some “commitment” to the Green Archers already. whether or not this will materialize soonest is a big question.
We hope Keith’s talent does not go to waste whatever happens.
I’m very sure right now franz and dindo pumaren are steaming!
I bet right now that they’re temperatures are above more than what it should be!
I hope the Green Mind didn’t blew an orgasm….
@ cub,
Classless Beating?
Anu gusto mo gawin nila.
Hug, while the clock is still ticking away?
I don’t think that’s class.
Still, this is a monumental feat, and Joshua Saret
should be praised for this.
P.S.
Joke lang yung kanina ah.
@More Money… Pacquiao
yup. cuddle each other.
what happened with the rest of the team? does anyone has a complete stats for this game.
@ grace
@ cub,
and besides, according to the Bedans themselves, hindi mag kalevel ang Bedans at Rizalians, so understood na dapat mas marami ang accomplishments ng Bedans.
peace yo
Let us all for one moment forget what school we come from and just celebrate the fact that young Filipino basketeer by the name of Joshua Saret made a mark today.
I am not a rizalian but I join the JRU community in cheering Joshua’s feat.
This is not just a Rizalian moment. This is a Filipino moment.
Just this once. Please.
What’s the score over AUF?
Thanks archie. I hope Agovida clears his academic deficiencies. It’s always disappointing to hear that a gifted student-athlete isn’t a good student. If he does sit out the entire year, I hope he continues working out and practicing. He could definitely help DLSU next year if he can shoot the ball like he did last year. LaSalle hasnt been able to hit anything in its first 2 games!
@Charlie
The talk about keith agovida joining DLSU is – at this point – still in the category of “speculation”. I need to say that because I don’t want to be accused to leaking confidential information.
I also hope ex-Staglet ace Almond Vosotros gets to suit up for DLSU next year. the guy, though not too tall, has high basketball IQ. I hope Franz and Dindo can make use of him
There ought to be a requirement for schools to help student-athletes cope with academics, e.g. tutoring support. the kids practice till the are exhausted and find little or no time to pay attention to academics. the schools should find some remedy to this.
fellas, let’s get back to reality. the junior league is not the seniors nor big time basketball. at 5’8″, saret will have difficulty playing against the giants of the big time leagues and even the pros. with guards at 6’0″ or taller, a vertically handicapped player like joshuia will have his hands full on defense making his offense suffer. the big time leagues is not for a 5’8″ player and none of that height has shone bright in the past decade of big time hoopdom
wow…great job Joshua Saret
the RIZALIAN’S community is very very proud of you…
MABUHAY RIZAL!!!
@pinoy gamer
okay, thanks for the damper :(. there goes the emman monforts, jeric fortunas and bimbot anquilos of this world.
But as the Karen Carpenter song goes, “I can dream, can’t I”?
@ pinoy gamer,
A human male’s height will reach its fullest by the age of 21, excluding of course, if the individual takes supplements.
The kid is still in High School.
I can still remember Christian Luanzon from UST. The guy was being trained to become a Point Guard.
Then one summer later, he grew, I think, 5 inches at most.
But well see.
good job saret!keep it up!
whats the final score of the 1st game…JRU vs AUF?
@Charlie: Pare, Agovida is no longer in JRU. He’s in an undisclosed NCAA member-school’s high school, finishing his studies there. For some reason, he won’t graduate from JRU, but will graduate in that undisclosed school.
The reason why he’s not playing is because he’s already 19, past the age limit set for juniors ballers.
78 pts? eh nung cla menor nga nung beda high tinambakan ung malayan 120+ points kaso walang nag 89 points sa knila kac nagpapasahan cla pati bench pinalalaro
are they doing this for them to be noticed?
@127-49?
nkita mo ba ung laro ng JRU vs AUF jrs?
Saret achieved an incredible quadruple double looks like your implementing na hnd nagpapasahan ng bola ung light bombers as in one pass, one shot ky Josh Saret?! ung iba kcng nagpopost d2 sa inboundpass naiinsecure kc hnd cla ung naglalaro sa NCAA kaya kng anu-anung negative comments & reactions ang nilalabas nyu!!!!
