ADAMSON UNIVERSITY made sure it capped off its fightback with a win this time around.

After failing to complete rally against Sto. Tomas last week, the Falcons pulled a fast one on University of the Philippines, 72-68 in Season 72 of the UAAP wars at the Araneta Coliseum last July 18.

The Fighting Maroons displayed a lot of character in the opening half of the game, leading by as many as 11 in the first quarter. Their seven-point halftime lead, though, was eclipsed by several Falcon mini-runs, punctuated by an Alex Nuyles jam at the 5:15 mark of the third period. Incidentally, Nuyles left the game just minutes after that highlight reel maneuver with an injured shoulder.

The San Marcelino unit finally took the lead, 67-66 at the 2:58 mark of the fourth quarter after Leo Canuday scored from close range. After a couple of Woody Co charities that gave the lead back to the State University, lead point guard Arvin Braganza turned the ball over twice. The veteran Canuday then handed Adamson the advantage for good, 69-68, with 27 seconds left. UP still had a crack at victory, but rookie playmaker Mikee Reyes had the ball slip from his hands before crossing the halfcourt.

A visibly relieved Leo Austria, coach of the Adamson Falcons, said after the game, “Yung pinapractice naming during the pre-season lumabas kanina. Akala ko matatalo na kami, pero nag-stick kami yung parang sa commercial, Be Positive, wag bibitaw. Pagdating sa guts, medyo kulang pa kami, talagang they did not give up. I’m happy for the rookies, si Cabrera and si Camson, hindi sila nagpakitang rookies sila.”

The Falcons captured their first win after losing to UST on opening day to go 1-1, while UP dropped to the cellar at 0-2. Jan Colina led the victors with 14 points and 12 boards, his second double-double in as many games, while Co towed the Diliman cagers with 17 markers and nine rebounds.

The scores:

Adamson 72 – Colina 14, Cañada 11, Camson 11, Alvarez 9, Canuday 8, Nuyles 6, Galinato 6, Santos 5, Cabrera 2, Margallo 0, Lozada 0, Basilio 0.

UP 68 – Co 17, Sison 12, Ma. Reyes 9, Gomez 8, Padilla 6, Mi. Reyes 5, Maniego 4, Lopez 2, Braganza 2, Astorga 2, Juruena 1, Marfori 0, de Asis 0.

Quarter scores: 20-20, 30-37, 50-54, 72-68.

What happend to Alex Nuyles? is he okay? if it was a dislocated shoulder they should have popped it back. football players do it. even kobe did it when he played against the cavs. dislocated finger. Gary Vitti popped kobe’s finger back why can’t they do it for Alex Nuyles?

    Can someone clarify this.

And Alex Nuyles Separated his Shoulder

  • maroon says:

  • the_falcon_way says:

    from my point of view…

I think after Nuyles’ dunk, it might have been a semi dislocation that happened there. It might worn his shoulder that much na sa isang swing lang eh magcause ng dislocation. It WAS a POWERFUL dunk na medyo may feelings at hindi kinaya ng katawan nya. I’m not a doctor, pero i believe, adamson owns us an explanation this monday on whether he can dunk again this coming FEU vs. Adamson game. hehe

  • mbfalcons says:

  • palkonz says:

MAG SUNUD SUNOD NA SANA ANG TSAMBA NG ADAMSON……………………

  • mbfalcons says:

as long as we have coach like coach Leo Austria, we never lose hope to be in the final 4!!!

  • chef says:

ibalik si ken bono….leo canuday must improve his game…idol ko yan nung highschool yan…lakas!!!

  • the_falcon_way says:

    @bzzbee

2-4 weeks ata ang dislocated shoulder eh. Bute ok lang siya. Anyway, thanks God, ok na sya, bata pa yun, ang kalaban nya ngayon is on the “mental” part. I hope for improvement pa din.

    As for the game…

Guys like Camson and Cabrera talaga eh maasahan. But, as Coach Leo said, “kulang pa sila sa guts”. Guys like Margallo and Lozada must really contribute both on the defensive side.

And have’nt you seen the consistency of Santos? Having a 3 blocked shot in a game in addition to his 5 points and 5 rebound is no joke! For me, I can say coach Leo has a good back up on Galinato.

Guts lang talaga. Go “Dark Falcons”!(dark blue)

  • Weatherford says:

    Thank you very much po!

  • mbfalcons says:

sad to say for us that nuyles is out for 2weeks…who will replace to his position in the court? anyone in the bench must to step up…
    get well soon…

  • Script says:

The game last saturday was tight. it could have been UP’s win. Fotunately, the turnovers of UP played well for ADU. this is the team i am watching this year! go ADU!

  • Rovie says:
