UNIVERSITY of Perpetual Help System Dalta is proving to be a fast learner.

After blowing a 12-point lead against Letran in their last game, the Altas maintained their poise this time around to complete an impressive victory over Angeles University Foundation, 94-84, in NCAA Season 85 at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan City last July 15.

Rookie Chris Elopre atoned for a dismal performance against the Knights last time out by erupting for a career-high 27 points, which saw his Altas through a serious Great Dane charge led by Limmuel Manarang and Aaron Santos.

Perpetual Help opened the second half with a 6-0 run that looked to finish off coach Eric Gascon’s troops. However, Manarang and Santos found their stroke from that point on and took advantage of Altas star big man Raffy Ynion’s injury, which was suspected to be a fractured toe. Angeles managed to trim the lead down to eight, but time was not on the guest team’s side as it sunk to a second straight defeat and a tie with its conquerors at 1-3 in the team standings.

Altas coach Boris Aldeguer commended his squad after the game. “Coming into the game, we’re 0-3, I used that as a motivating factor for the team. We got tired of losing so we came out really hard to today to earn our first victory in the season. I commend each and every member of the team for their dedication today and hopefully they carry it onto the next games.”

Back-up sophomore point guard Robin Roño played the game of his career, scoring 16 points, grabbing five boards and dishing out four dimes to aptly assist Elopre. Manarang and Santos, meanwhile, led the Great Danes with 18 points apiece.

The scores:

Perpetual Help 94 – Elopre 27, Roño 16, Vivero 15, Salanga 12, Galabin 9, Carrullo 5, Ynion 4, Sicat 3, Liaz 2, Salvado 1, Hainga 0.

AUF 84 – Manarang 18, Santos 18, Fuertez 13, Carney 11, Gigante 10, Gomez 7, Nacu 4, Musni 3, Henson 0, Dumlao 0, Cayanan 0, Maniago 0.

Quarter scores: 22-13, 44-29, 63-49, 94-84.
