UE slaughters listless De La Salle

UNIVERSITY of the East exacted some measure of revenge over its Finals mishap two years ago against De La Salle University with a convincing 65-46 win on opening day of UAAP Season 72 at the Araneta Coliseum last July 11.
The Red Warriors, who were led by rookie coach Lawrence Chongson – incidentally a DLSU alumnus – unleashed a lethal fourth quarter run to thwart the team that denied them the title after going 14-0 in the elimination round of Season 70. A tight, low-scoring first 30 minutes was followed by a fierce 15-0 UE run, which lifted the Recto unit to its largest lead of 22 points, 63-41 at the 2:05 mark after a Paul Lee basket.
Veteran big man Pari Llagas led a balanced UE attack with 15 points, while Lee scored 11. UE’s stifling defense also held all La Salle scorers to single-digits. Veteran James Mangahas paced the Green and White with nine points and seven boards.
The Green Archers’ 19-point defeat was their largest since that season, when the same UE squad defeated them by 20. What made matters worse was the fact that their 46-point output is the lowest in the Franz Pumaren era, which spans 11 years. Their previous low was 51, coming in a Game 1, Final Four loss to University of Sto. Tomas on October 1, 1998.

choker talaga tong si Dindo! HAHAHA! Dapat kasi hindi na kinuha ng La Salle yan eh! Sa La Salle naman nya dadalin ang kamalasan nya! HAHAHA! Kung ako sa La Salle hanggat maaga palang alisin ko na si Dindo!
I just can’t imagine how insulting to the DLSU Community that game is. The fact that their prized rookie Arvie Bringas was a non-factor on that game. Everybody is watching him and everyone expected that he will be a big difference together with Andrada (which led Baste to Jrs NCAA last year).
They really felt the exodus of Maierhofer and Casio. But then again, this is only just the first game and I’m expecting more on the Green and White squad of Pumaren… Remember Season 67, second round of eliminations that was very impressive…
Hopefully this will not be the last insult to the Archers. And for those people here talking about Dindo Pumaren in the Archers coaching staff and thinking that he’s a “malas” o whatsoever, think again… That was just the first game wait for the next games…

To those who can relate, remember, winning the championship still feels better than getting a 14-0 standing. Maybe I should also remind some of you of a quote from Franz Pumaren, “Sometimes 2 is greater than 3.” That was just the first game, we are not out yet.

your write.. Maybe his the only bright spot for the many rookies of La Salle.. Sana nga sya nlang ung sinasabing “prized rookie”. I think that bringas’ kind of game is not suitable for the Pumaren system. Specially that he is not that tall of a Center spot..

I dont agree that match lang since Arellano and Thiele graduated from UE and Rico and Jvee graduated from DLSU. UE has more veterans than DLSU.
But sure, a win is a win. A loss is a loss. We’re not taking away the win from UE. They played better, no doubt.

it’s open to public that dlsu has a weak line up. they are not the favorites! they know that. FEU ADMU ang malakas. all DLSU will do is try their best.
Pareho lang naman, kung sino panalo nagyayabang. Let’s see if DLSU really has nothing to be proud of. Maybe for now they dont. But let’s just wait and see.

I think the loss of the Archers by a big margin is so hyped because people are used to seeing DLSU play well. And pag talo DLSU, asahan na maraming hindi maganda maririnig. IMHO, it’s a chance for other people (most of them dislike/hate DLSU) to put down DLSU.
