UE slaughters listless De La Salle

UNIVERSITY of the East exacted some measure of revenge over its Finals mishap two years ago against De La Salle University with a convincing 65-46 win on opening day of UAAP Season 72 at the Araneta Coliseum last July 11.

The Red Warriors, who were led by rookie coach Lawrence Chongson – incidentally a DLSU alumnus – unleashed a lethal fourth quarter run to thwart the team that denied them the title after going 14-0 in the elimination round of Season 70. A tight, low-scoring first 30 minutes was followed by a fierce 15-0 UE run, which lifted the Recto unit to its largest lead of 22 points, 63-41 at the 2:05 mark after a Paul Lee basket.

Veteran big man Pari Llagas led a balanced UE attack with 15 points, while Lee scored 11. UE’s stifling defense also held all La Salle scorers to single-digits. Veteran James Mangahas paced the Green and White with nine points and seven boards.

The Green Archers’ 19-point defeat was their largest since that season, when the same UE squad defeated them by 20. What made matters worse was the fact that their 46-point output is the lowest in the Franz Pumaren era, which spans 11 years. Their previous low was 51, coming in a Game 1, Final Four loss to University of Sto. Tomas on October 1, 1998.

UE 65 – Llagas 15, Lee 11, Zamar 9, Espiritu 9, Lingganay 6, Reyes 5, Acuña 4, Ayala 2, Alabanza 2, Acibar 2, Tagarda 0.

De La Salle 46 – Mangahas 9, Marata 7, Barua 7, Webb 5, Malabes 5, Villanueva 4, Ferdinand 3, Tolentino 2, Co 2, Bringas 2, Bagatsing 0, Atkins 0, Andrada 0.

Quarter scores: 9-10, 30-24, 43-35, 65-46.

    suggestion lang kasi nung saturday bago mag start yung game ng DLSU vs. UE eh nag perform ang DLSU PEP sana man lang itinigil niyo muna sandali yung pag cheer niyo alam niyo namang may nag pe-perform tapos nilakasan niyo pa yung drums niyo wag naman kayong ganun hindi lang sa amin pati na rin sa ibang teams.

    oo nga kabastusan ung ginawa ng UE nung saturday kahit nag alma mater hindi nila pinalakpakan ang DLSU parang walang sportsmanship buti nga sila pinalakpakan ng DLSU sa kabila ng panglalait nila, ung iba samin na taga UST nag stay pa para i-cheer din ung DLSU kasi nag cheer din sila samin, thank you nga pala DLSU sa mga clapper na binigay niyo

    james martinez was injured during thier final games in pre season last may against feu. acl injury or anterior cruciate ligament injury.he is out . he is out all throughout this season. he was there in araneta in the audience last saturday watching the game.

    di ako nakapanood ng game last saturday, and i am so happy na nanalo pala UE. i’m not from UE pero UE talaga gusto kong team since 2003. haha wala lang. more games like last saturday para makaabot sa finals. go ue.

    ive read from an article that this is the last year of james martinez in uaap.how sad . anyway he’s always there going to support his fellow warriors and im sure his teammates will step up to show their power even without james. and they showed it last saturday.

    Actually, “Animo” was used first by Ateneans long before lasalle as one of their cheers because it sounded good. “Animo Ateneo” both As. But like most cheers, it evolved and now Animo is mostly used by older ateneans. Lasallites incorporated it into their cheer later on.

    What were you saying about originality?

    BTW, what’s with the name? Are you trying to compensate for something?

    Actually, Ateneo nauna sa Animo eh. You just don’t know Ateneo’s history. 150 years na Ateneo sa Philippines, La Salle, wala pa sa 100. So sino sa tingin mo nauna?

    lahat naman pwede gamitin ang word na “ANIMO” sa amin sa La Salle ang meaning ng ANIMO ay COURAGE and SPIRIT hindi ko lang alam kung anong meaning ng “ANIMO” sa inyo at sa San Beda. yeah mas matanda ang school mo sa amin kayo rin ang unang nagkaron ng cheering squad dito sa bansa pero kaming Lasallians ang kauna-unahang nagkaron ng all boys squad dito sa Pilipinas na hanggang ngayon meron pa rin sa DLSU Animo Squad.

    to blue babble and keeper of faith…no way na titigil ang kahit sinong skul sa pag cheer to let their opponent do so…lol cheering, heckling, pumping up…you know, if you let them get the psychological edge before the game magagalit naman sa inyo ung players. so what kung magperform lasalle pep? that’s their way of rousing the crowd so you have to have your own. di yun kabastusan…ganun talaga sa sports…

    pag may game ang Ateneo and La Salle bago mag start ung game ganun ang ginagawa ng Blue Babble Battalion at DLSU Animo Squad pag nag perform sila tumatahimik kami pero pag kami naman tatahimik din sila kahit kasama pa nila dun sa basketball court ung mga players na nag warm up.

    yeah right UE lang ata ung ganun. kasi sa UST and AdU ganun din ginawa nila and nung sunday ganun din, oh! ganun ba talaga sa sports? na habang nag alma mater ung La Salle may naririnig kaming sumasabay na “BOO” galing sa UE crowd kabastusan talaga, I was there kasi kung saan ung pwesto ng UST pero infairness to La Salle kahit talo sila sa first game sila pa ung malakas mag alma mater

    Thanks sa info ha, sayang im not from UE pero cia lang pinapanood ko sa UAAP (NCAA skul kasi ako red lions)kasi simple player lang cia at walang ka angas-angas sa katawan. Pero good news dahil by next year mag mamasteral pala cia so pede pa cia maglaro ng 1 yr.

    taga UE din ako, oo tama ka lahat naman ng school may kabastusan ding ginagawa, kung nandun ka last saturday sa araneta then alam mo ang mga nangyari, sa AdU and UST game pareho silang nag BOO at nagpalakasan ng drums.

    about the UE and DLSU game good sport naman sila pareho pero about sa nirereklamo ng iba to be honest yes totoo yun na habang kumakanta ng alma mater ang DLSU may nag BOO talaga sa UE and I was very disappointed, at sa mga taga DLSU, Sorry sa inyo at salamat sa palakpak that’s a good sportsmanship. see you 2nd round.

    Sorry, ngayon lang talaga ako mag cocomment dito na link lang sa akin toh eh.

    Pero tanong ko lang sa mga taga-lasalle na nandito at nag popost post pa dito? Babagsakin ba kayo? anu CGPA nyo 1.5?

    Parang ang dami nyong oras para patulan at basahin ang mga comments dito(di ko na nabasa lahat)

    Kung ako sa inyo mag aral nalang kayo, midterms week na kaya. wala ba kayong mga exam? mga projects?

    Yes, I still do have faith in our team but faith without reason is blind or whatever Immanuel Kant said. It’s so clear that we don’t have a UAAP caliber star player. Let’s just hope that Coach Franz has something brewing in his lair.

    Kung ako kay coach Franz, wag nalang nya gamitin yung funds ng Team, gamitin lang nya toh sa game fixing. :P Bigyan mo ng tigiisang kotse yung mga star player ng kalaban na team. Haha, yun lang wag na mag aksaya ng pera pag Ateneo mayayaman din sila eh.

    At para sa ibang mga schools, wala lang, sige, go, asar lang ng asar. :P are you done? hahaha, hindi pa? ok, sige asar pa. sabihin nyo lang pag tapos na kayo. :P
