Blazers lock up debuting Great Danes

COLLEGE of Saint Benilde took down debuting guest school Angeles University Foundation, 87-76, in its maiden game on the second playing date of NCAA Season 85 at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan City last June 29.
The Blazers of new head coach Richard del Rosario were able to fend off numerous runs staged by the Pampanga quintet en route to a double-digit win. Wingmen Jelo Montecastro and Chuck Dalanon were on cue early as St. Benilde built several advantages in the opening 20 minutes. AUF, though, hung tough as Fil-Am big man Matthew Carney and Guian Fuertez poured in 11 points apiece in the first half to carry the fight for coach Eric Gascon’s wards.
In the third quarter, CSB extended its seven-point halftime lead to double-digits after a long two by Montecastro and back-to-back baskets by veteran teammate Jeff Morial. The determined Great Danes weren’t about to roll over and die as they rallied via a 10-0 run, helped in part by converted freebies after St. Benilde guard Mc Abolucion was slapped with a technical foul for resenting a call with under a minute remaining in the third period.
AUF kept the game close until the six-minute mark of the final canto, where the Blazers found their groove through a series of getaway layups on the fastbreak. In fact, CSB converted 23 fastbreak points, as opposed to the 12 registered by Angeles.
Montecastro led the Taft outfit with 20 points, with Dalanon and versatile forward Ilie Johnston contributing 16 and 12, respectively. Fuertez, meanwhile, shouldered the offensive load for AUF with 18.

is it just me.. or sobrang walang sense nung sinabi ni popsy? i mean he posted it three times or something. it still didn’t make any sense to me. there were words, but no content. way to show exactly how meaningful your input is.
hindi pinupush ng benilde ang one la salle. if anything people from csb, myself included, are a little cynical about it. it’s a concept with good intentions, but will take some time to really work.
anyway, why are we not talking about the game again?

And no matter how they mock our institution, this is my alma mater I learned to love. I can attest to what CSB, together with De La Salle Philippines, can teach to its publics.

di ko na naabutan sina sunday e. when i came to benilde, last years nina al magpayo and louie abad. jay sagad was still on that team too. that was a while back though. been a tough couple of years for the blazers. csb really improved last year under coach gee abanilla. just hoping that they can capitalize on last year’s momentum and move it up a notch this year.

This is the site where you can see how narrow-minded some people could be. Dito lang ako nakakita ng mga patrons na walang finesse kung magsalita, or could speak with foul words without hesitation. I don’t want to pinpoint people, but Jail Blazers is just one outstanding example. He/she lacks refinement with his/her words and behavior.
Wherever you came from, you are just a shame for your school. I’m not from CSB, and I actually don’t care, pero nakakainis lang na may mga mapanirang tao na walang alam.

Has Chris Acqualiful finally gotten his papers in order?
That was the problem he had: he could not prove he was already a high school graduate.
He had that problem with NU according to head coach Manny Dandan. Acqualiful was even seen on the bench in an NU uniform in last year’s Fil Oil, and he even took part in the warm-ups and the shoot-arounds.
Acqualiful then found his merry way to STI College, where he again failed to produce his high school papers, much to the consternation of head coach Vic Icasiano.
He tried to pull a fast one by then going to STI’s NAASCU rival St Clare College, but he was blunted during the screening held at CEU prior to last season, again because he did not have his high school papers.
Last Fr Martin conference he suddenly surfaced on the Informatics bench in the middle of the eliminations, which of course reduced Informatics to guest team status, having brought in a foreign player not originally on their roster.
Now Acqualiful is with Lyceum? Hmm…

UV is so far the most dominant CESAFI team, winning all 7 championships in all 7 CESAFI seasons so far. The last one did not come easily though, with UV struggling with 1-point wins in the semifinals against the USJ-R Jaguars in a full 3-game series, and again stretched by the USC Warriors in a full 5-game series in the Finals. This is the first CESAFI Season when UV had more than one loss. They previously dropped just 1 regular season game against the UC Webmasters prior to 2007. The preseason Partners’ Cup however could have been an ominous foreboding of sorts as they also lost some games there against USJ-R.

DLSU is indeed an institution in its own right..self-standing na yan.
you can’t judge CSB if you don’t even really KNOW anything about it most especially if you didn’t study there.
