Blazers lock up debuting Great Danes

COLLEGE of Saint Benilde took down debuting guest school Angeles University Foundation, 87-76, in its maiden game on the second playing date of NCAA Season 85 at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan City last June 29.
The Blazers of new head coach Richard del Rosario were able to fend off numerous runs staged by the Pampanga quintet en route to a double-digit win. Wingmen Jelo Montecastro and Chuck Dalanon were on cue early as St. Benilde built several advantages in the opening 20 minutes. AUF, though, hung tough as Fil-Am big man Matthew Carney and Guian Fuertez poured in 11 points apiece in the first half to carry the fight for coach Eric Gascon’s wards.
In the third quarter, CSB extended its seven-point halftime lead to double-digits after a long two by Montecastro and back-to-back baskets by veteran teammate Jeff Morial. The determined Great Danes weren’t about to roll over and die as they rallied via a 10-0 run, helped in part by converted freebies after St. Benilde guard Mc Abolucion was slapped with a technical foul for resenting a call with under a minute remaining in the third period.
AUF kept the game close until the six-minute mark of the final canto, where the Blazers found their groove through a series of getaway layups on the fastbreak. In fact, CSB converted 23 fastbreak points, as opposed to the 12 registered by Angeles.
Montecastro led the Taft outfit with 20 points, with Dalanon and versatile forward Ilie Johnston contributing 16 and 12, respectively. Fuertez, meanwhile, shouldered the offensive load for AUF with 18.
The Scores:
St. Benilde 87 – Montecastro 20, Dalanon 16, Johnston 12, Morial 10, Mañalac 8, Abolucion 4, Manlapaz 4, de Guzman 4, Tajonera 3, Urra 2, dela Paz 2, Tan 0, Argamino 0.
AUF 76 – Fuertez 18, Manarang 16, Carney 11, Santos 11, Maniago 9, Dumlao 4, Gigante 3, Musni 2, Gomez 2, Henson 0, Cayanan 0.

c’mon guys let’s face it, people from the main campus is’nt really interested in their benildean brothers. they find them inferior in all aspects. they look down upon them knowing that their just a bunch of wannabees and only want to be called “lasalista’s” well, SAD BUT TRUE. yes, tution fee is far much more expensive in CSB but the main campus see them as just “milking cows” for cash.
If one wants to study or want to be a lasalista but you dont have the brains to pass the exams in the main campus, you go to CSB and you can buy your way thru. I pity the cheerleaders and PEP band of CSB, sila sila lang ang nanood ng games yesterday.
CSB should have thier own identity. they should first stop using la salle inspired colors and uniform designs, even the letter fonts are the same. or else they would always be in the shadow of guys in taft.
agree 101% kumpleto sa funding ang blazers and their PEP squad, all out support when it comes to finances, pero halos wala silang crowd. sayang naman. help naman kahit konti
same hymn! same cheer! pinatilan lang ng benilde…
awww.
la salle spelling, ginawang benilde spelling
d-l-s-u, animo la salle, naging d-l-s-u, animo benilde…
i think it is C-S-B… go benilde .. go go benilde
and for the spelling it is B E N I LDE Benilde rah…
correct me if im wrong benildeans… :D
Congrats CSB
sand in the sky
again, congrats CSB sana tuloy tuloy ang panalo at sana makapasok ng final four this time. An1mo!
GO, JELO!!!!
this is reality :
when some ask where do you study and you answered La Salle, a follow up question is certain. main or benilde? when you ansewr main, the reaction you got is wow! but when you answered Benilde the reaction is ahhh… read between the lines nalang.
SAD BUT TRUE
Tanong lang. I saw the NCAA game yesterday na c Butch Maniego ang commentator. He does not look so well. Did he just came from an illness? I hope he’s okay.
Congrats Blazers! I really pray that this season we can reach the final four again.
dun sa nagsasabing walang identity ang CSB, have you guys forgotten about the “University-College” (Mutien Marie College) proposal before kung saan iisa lang ang school for DLSU and CSB sa minors and pag majors na, pipili ka if you’d go to DLSU or CSB? Let me remind you that the idea came from the president of DLSU. and it was rejected by the students of CSB kasi mawawalan ng identity ang Benildeans.
And no, it is not true that Lasallians look down on Benildeans and that we are second rate citizens. DLSU and CSB have different courses and fields of expertise. I say this because I graduated from both schools (undergrad in CSB, M.A. in DLSU). It is by choice that a lot of students go to Benilde, not because we were “lasalista” wannabees, but because we want to take up the courses available there. Ung nagiisip na second class citizens kami sa Lasalle community, either they are not from a lasallian institution or they are the “wannabees” that didn’t get in to DLSU. Kawawa ang mga students that dont take pride in their school lalo na pag sa CSB sila nag-aaral. they will forever live in the shadow of the Main campus.
Tsaka, it really doesn’t matter if the students from main don’t come to the CSB games. Its a choice they are entitled to make.
Animo Benilde!!!
Wishful thinking martian?
nice game blazers. keep it up. nakakatawa yung mga comments ng iba, thinking na second-class citizen”" yung csb. just goes to show how ignorant they are.
@GreenVsGreen
well, sometimes you can call it wishful thinking that people from the main campus will come and support Benilde. I only recall one season where my friends from main went to cheer for CSB, that was when CSB won the championship in 2000.
@nora aunor
losers like you should be burned not by benildeans but by lasallians. it just goes to show that DLSU isn’t idiot-proof. but then again, i do think you don’t belong to a school with green and white colors.
@ablaze
basta tayo benildeans and proud of it, diba?
Animo Benilde!!!
Animo Benilde!
For those who are saying Benildeans are second class Lasallians, go attend your ORDEV/NSTP classes. I graduated from DLS-CSB and acknowledged some issues about it before but my batchmates took that as opportunity to create identity in which we are proud of until now. We always say that we’re from Benilde and proud of what CSB provided for us. For those doubtful of CSB’s capacity to provide quality education, go attend other schools! CSB does not need students who are not inculcating values that are uniquely Benildean. Even if I just finished my graduate studies in DLSU-Manila and supporting Green Archers, I still put my hopes in CSB Blazers that someday they will be in their winning ways again..
As you may remember, CSB Blazers won basketball championship in NCAA in just 3 years after they joined in 1998. That was a green season and even other La Salle schools were proud of what we have accomplished. Also, CSB is the overall champion for the last two seasons (I believe).
You just have to keep the faith kiddos! Animo Benilde, Animo La Salle! It’s the same banana…
I agree @ martian and @ ablaze…and for one, there is no longer term, “MAIN”! These people need to read the Lasallian Guiding Principles and know more about the One La Salle thing…Animo Benilde!
I agree, iba pa rin pag sa MAIN. even if make a survey pa. main or benilde??? MAIN sympre!
@garci
di ata nila alam ung ORDEV e… iba ung course code nung nila for the Lasallian values subject. I believe CSB is improving every year in every aspect of student life. and based on experience, my M.A. classmates that came from “main” aren’t as smart as i expected them to be. marami pa mas matalino sa kanila sa SMIT. anu nga pala M.A. mo pare?
well it was a good showing by AUF. they did well for their first game. hope they can win some games this season. only the ones against the other guests teams are winnable IMO, if they win against the regular NCAA teams, then it’s mission accomplished already
@ martian
ahaha.. SEPERDE sa min dati eh…i agree with your grad school comment. BSBA CA ID 98 in CSB. just finished MS Entrepreneurship last March 09.
why dont you guy’s just admit it, CSB is just a milkin cow for cash of MAIN campus. the said courses not avaible can be integrated sa main. thats why you have all those weird courses their at csb. mga bagong imbento lang. even our state university (UP) dont have those “weird courses”. if you accidentaly ask students from main if their from csb, you can see it in their faces that their insulted(well not all of them) some of them just laugh it out instead.
@jason vorhees
CSB as cash cow? dude, they spent an estimated 1.2 billion pesos for the new SDA building. nung opening, sabi ng DLSU president that its the “jewel in the crown of the De La Salle University System schools”. oo, mas mahal tuition namen, pero sa facilities and professors sulit naman lahat. i-compare mo pa ung mga computer labs ng CSB sa DLSU.
ung “weird courses” were made para specialized ung learning and focused on subjects that are essential rather than the conventional textbook courses that other schools offer. thats what makes the products of CSB unique. and it helped a lot of us in our careers.
@ martian
nuff said…
my opinion on the CSB issue is really simple. i love their specialized courses. you can call them weird but they really prepare you for a certain job and you can really excel with that single skill rather than being just okay with multiple skills. the sad this is that they are too lax in accepting students and admit it or not, there are lots of bad eggs that get in. but if we base our judgement on purely the institutio, i can say that they have many things going their way. they have great courses, great facilities, and great profs. if they could say no to the proverbial rich but brainless students that often walk their way, their stock will sky rocket in no time
weird = relevant courses…yeah, realities…but have you wondered how these bad eggs turned into ‘relevant’ members of our society? that’s Lasallian mission working in them..
there are bad apples anywhere. we just don’t single them out just because they are rich.
aha..
GO AUF!
iba talaga pag sikat,,
ahaha..go archers!

sayang nman.
ang galing2 pa nman nya..

Is it a battle between DLSU and BENILDE?
Is it a battle between DLSU and BENILDE?

nakatatak na sa DLSU yan, isang unibersidad d2 sa pilipinas na hindi basta bsta, kinakatakutan..and i gues, they will leave a legacy here in UAAP o kung saan pa man..
ahahahahahahah…
STory of ARCHER and BLAZER:
BLAZER: ARCHER, how long is a thousand years to you?
ARCHER: A SECOND
BLAZER: How much is one million to you?
ARCHER: A CENT
BLAZER: Can i borrow a cent?
ARCHER: wait a second!
wahahaha.. banat ng mga LaSalista!
ang gugulo nyo!
bkt kau ngaaway ng ganian???
sbin nyo sa admin nyo yan!!! =)

larong mayayaman?? ateneo, lasalle uste pwede!! eh ibang members? adamson, NU, FEU, UE nio mayaman?? kinumpara mo pa sa NCAA ah!!
ok, that’s the end of story. other schools are here now! it’s not between archers and blazers for they belong in one family. just trying to set perspective here. if you know and understand what i mean…
Animo Benilde! Animo La Salle!
wag na mag-away po. basta we are seeing a much better benilde team. JELO MONTECASTRO and RJ ARGAMINO, hope you really shine this year!!!!
And guys, why don’t you look happy when you play? parang lagi kayong may mabigat na dinadala sa isipan? enjoy your games!
just an observation..
there is a thread in pex entitled somewhat “c’mon blazers lets unit for CSB”
but sad thing is that some student insist that thier tournament is still set for July 11.
i’m not from any DLS system school but i just noticed this.
problem is, ang hilig niyo kase sumisik sa la salle. sa csb nagsimula or kayo ang pinaka active sa “ONE LA sALLE” crap nyo. because kayo ang mag be-benifit. but yung sa mga main people they are not into it. kaya nga pag may nag tanong saan ka nag-aaral and you answer is la salle, sunod na question main or tapat?(benilde). get what i mean????? pag main, wow!!! pag benilede ahh..
sila ARCHERS>>>>
kayo BLAZERS……
see the difference?????
when you shout animo benile thats it. problem is animo benilde, animo la salle pa.
make it short and simple.
animo benilde!!! tapos ang kwento
shh…
hoy kayo pinagtatalunan niyo p yang LA SALLE and BENILDE ehh sabi niyo sister school? sister school b tawag dyan? kayo-kayo rin nagsisiraan… magkampihan nalang kayo kasi hindi niyo alam ung ibang schools dyan kayo ang pinaguusapan! kung ako sa inyo, kung taga-BENILDE kayo, suportahan niyo sila, kung taga-LA SALLE kayo, suportahan niyo rin… much better kung parehas kasi sister school db? and ang BLAZERS sa NCAA naman yan, LA SALLE sa UAAP so ibang usapan…
csb will evolve as an institution without hanging on to the shirt tail of dlsu much like letran which used to be known as the law school of ust.
ayun naman pala pareng jason, ok sabihan ko nalang si kumpare tungkol dyan. close kami nun. nag sama kami sa movie nun, did u watch? freddie vs. jason? its a classic
DLSU PEP here!
tama si granville, kung hindi member ng DLSP ang CSB eh di sana hindi namin sila sinasama pag playoffs at finals pati ung greenhills and zobel, kaya namin ginagawa yun dahil sa campaign ng One La Salle. let’s see pag naka abot ng final four ang CSB ngayon I’ll contact my friends from CSB para mag merge yung squad namin sa NCAA naman.
AN1MO!
