UAAP Season 72 welcomes the Sarimanok

An enchanted mythical creature joins this year’s UAAP season. But unlike the rest of the university icons, the legendary Sarimanok is not here to enter into battle. This beautiful bird sets out from its celestial habitat to inspire the UAAP member universities to come together.
Far Eastern University (FEU) hosts this year’s UAAP Season 72 with the theme, “One color. One goal.†The Sarimanok, which is featured in FEU’s coat of arms, has multi-colored wings representing the different universities in the UAAP.
FEU President’s Committee on Culture (PCC) Executive Director Martin Lopez explains that the theme of the UAAP is a call for unity among the participating schools and among the athletes. FEU’s cultural groups like The FEU Dance Company, The FEU Chorale, The FEU Bamboo Band, The FEU Theater Guild, The FEU Drum and Bugle Corp, The FEU pep squad and other organizations from FEU East Asia College and FEU-FERN College will all participate in this spectacular production.
Every season, the UAAP is described as a battle field for athletes. “What is often overlooked is the spirit of camaraderie that is just as much a part of the celebration,” FEU Athletic Director Mark Molina said.
The UAAP Season 72 opening ceremony will be held at the Araneta Coliseum this July 11, 2009.

fyi po the sarimanok was the orignal symbol of FEU but when they joined the UAAP they changed it because the admin felt that its not apt for the competition hence they chose the “tamaraw” to represent them in the tournament.
imagine if the sarimanok was not replaced then FEU students will be shouting: Lets Go Lets Go Sarimanok Lets Go! Hehe
Last 2007 nag host ang JRU ng spectacular opening ceremonies with the mighty Dragon as the mascot for that season. after nun di na na sundan ng Mapua ang spectacular opening ng JRU. Nagtitipid daw. Sana ang San Beda maganda ang opening nila sa sabado.
Now FEU’s UAAP opening ceremony is something to watch out for!

Parang di tugma ang Sarimanok sa temang “one color, one goal”. Marami nga kulay ang Sarimanok, tapos sasabihing “one color”. Sana sabihin na lang nila, “Different colors, one goal”.
FYI, kaya ata ginawang tamaraw yung FEU maskot, kasi yung founder ng FEU, Nicanor Reyes, ay isang tamaraw hunter sa Mindoro.
Sarimanok? Parang Sariwanok ang dating. Siguro major sponsor KFC o di kaya Max’s.

Hindi ABS-CBN ang nagdikta niyan… Its their own concept… At hindi kailanman magiging epal ang ABS-CBN at this first place GMA at Solar Sports nga ang umeepal dahil uhaw na uhaw silang makuha ang television rights ng UAAP dahil sa March 2010 e mag-eexpire na ang contract nga ABS-CBN…

next time wag na nilang gagawin yun I mean yung mga alumni na nag lagay dun na ikinatuwa naman ng karamihan na Atenean, nakakahiya kasi eh kahit ako na Atenean sobrang na-disappoint talaga ako nung nakita ko yun nakakahiya talaga mag victory party na nga lang babastusin pa yung players ng La Salle. kaya next time wag na sana maulit yun.

DLSU – UE. a close one indeed. But I think DLSU would still have a difficult time even UE does not have Martinez on their back court bcos of acl injury. Paul Lee and Paul Zamar are great gruards and Pari Llagas and Elmer Espiritu can cover the paint every well.
