Jose Rizal extends winning run to seven-year high six games

IN A GAME which neither team seemed to want to win, Jose Rizal University prevailed and extended its win streak to a season-high six games.
The Heavy Bombers survived the University of Perpetual Help System Dalta, 51-48, in an ugly and low-scoring game in the 84th NCAA seniors basketball competition last August 8, 2008 at the Cuneta Astrodome.
Guard John Wilson finished with nine points to pace the Shaw outfit, while Maui Pradas, Jay-R Bulangis and JR Sena combined for 24 points to extend the Bombers’ win streak to six – their longest since winning nine straight to kick off 2001 – and send the Altas to the bottom of the standings with a 1-7 card.
That year, JRU made the finals, only to lose to San Sebastian College-Recoletos.
“It was an ugly win but we will take it,� said JRU Heavy Bombers coach Ariel Vanguardia. “We played their game which is defense and we were lucky they [Perpetual] were also struggling offensively, so we took the chance.�
Perpetual Help committed 19 errors, while JRU had 17.
Altas playmaker Franz Dysam had a chance to send the game into overtime but missed a three-pointer at the buzzer. Ronald Reyes led UPHSD with 12 points.
After defeating San Sebastian in their opening game, the Altas have lost seven consecutive – the longest losing streak this season. In an opposite fashion, the Heavy Bombers’ sixth straight win ties the longest run in Season 84, which was set earlier by the Letran Knights.
The Altas surprisingly outrebounded the bigger Heavy Bombers, 51-45. Both teams shot horribly from the field, with JRU tallying a 36.5 percent clip from the field and Perpetual Help hitting only 26 percent of its shots.
Both teams’ combined 99 points is the fewest in an NCAA game since Mapua defeated Philippine Christian University on opening day in 2006, 47-42.

Perpetual Help 48 – Reyes 12, Ynion 11, Galabin 9, M. Kong 8, Balboa 4, Dysam 2, J. Kong 2, Vivero 0, Salanga 0.

Form of protest kasi ung gnawa ng UST na pag-alis sa NCAA, ayaw ng UST,UP,NU na magkaroon ng commercialization sa NCAA, kaya bilang protesta, iniwan nila ang NCAA!!

what a stupid question! kahit di ako Letranista masasagot ko yang tanong mo eh! hello UAAP yung kabila! Pano makakasali dun ang Letran eh SJLC nga sila (later changed to CSJL). nandito ka ba? UAAP for Universities lang! sa susunod kasi gamitin ang utak di yung puro dada lang!

Bakit matagal maging University ang Letran? simple reason, dati kasi gusto ng Dominicans na 1 lang ang Primary University and that is UST. Ngayon lang nila naisip na pwede rin nilang gawing university rin ang Letran?
What’s with the “UNIVERSITY” thing anyway? ano ba kapag “University” ka na? mas superior na yung School mo kesa sa mga “Colleges” dito sa Pilipinas?
One more thing. kahit maging University ang Letran (2020 pa kasabay ng 400th year anniversary), wala sa plano ng Letran ang umalis sa NCAA.

teka bkit nga b di iniwan ng letran ang NCAA nung iniwan siya ng UST?? db prehas silang run by dominican?? naalala q may snabe p ung rector ng UST nun eh,na ayaw nila makipaglaro sa makikitad utak/isip bata or whatever it is?? so dpat magkadamaya sila db??
in short bkit di sumama letran nung iniwan ng UST ang NCAA??

bkit gnun ang tgal mging university status ng letran ,naunahan pa ng ateneo de zamboanga,jru at perpetual help!!!! saka bkit gus2ng gus2 nila lumipat sa UAAP?? lam q big money pero khit nman mging university kau wag muna kau magyayabang na UAAP n kau sa 2010, la salle nga more than 2 times nag-apply eh dahil sa past incidents nila sa violence..lalo n ang letran considering last year lng may incident kaung awayan dun sa laban sa san beda……..
