UNIVERSITY of the East bounced back from a stunning setback against Adamson last week by scoring a lopsided 87-58 victory over host University of the Philippines in the 71st UAAP men’s basketball tournament last July 24, 2008 at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.

The UE backcourt also did their share, as James Martinez added 12 markers and four boards, while Raffy Reyes registered 11.

Our colleague Tony Atayde predicted UP would only win once this season. They accomplished that on opening day vs NU. The rest of us said they’d probably win one or two more. Somehow, at the rate things are going, Tony is proving to be prophetic. UP is back to playing like a juniors team in a seniors league. How the UP faithful wish every day was opening day!

@sir Charlie: I’m thinking that UP’s gonna win a couple more games too! But then again, obviously this year’s not their year (again).
Sa totoo lang, nung napanood ko laban nila against NU during the opening weekend, akala ko kaya na nila. Nasabi ko pa nga sa kapatid kong kasama kong nanood: “O, may karibal na ulit ang Ateneo sa Katipunan!” But the way things are going…
But then, I think we should give UP a chance. Let’s see how they’ll do in Round 2. Excited pa rin naman ako para sa kanila kahit maraming nagsasabi na hindi na sila mananalo ulit. :)
