no grounds for forfeiture as the tribute tape is NOT part of the CURRENT season's uniform as IT IS NOT A PERMANENT FIXTURE thereon. let's not stretch this rule to absurdity.

If you saw the UST-ADU game last Sunday, you would notice Jervy did not have the tribute taped on his jersey. And during the game, you would also notice the "tribute tape" of some of the players of UST destroyed due to sweat. Grounds for forfeit? :)

As for the tape for an injured player. In the NCAA, once you make that tribute, all players should have that tape on their shoulder or else the should be similar uniform rule will apply.

I don't know if the NCAA rules (specifically 9.1 and 9.2 of the manual of operations) are also part of the UAAP rules. I don't have a copy of the UAAP rules or manual of operations. Whoever is in-charge of moderating any UAAP-related websites, I suggest, should put the rules among the "link" buttons so that all stakeholders can easily take a look at it for immediate reference whenever similar Ekwe-related incidents arise in the future.

My comment was about putting an injured player's number on left side of the jersey. If you remember when Fonacier went down with an ACL injury, the whole team put the "14" patch on their jersey. Just recently, UST taped Cuan's "18" on their jersey.

So IF one player fails to tape the injured player's number or removes it because the tape was destroyed due to sweat, SHOULD that be penalized? Without the taped number, the jersey does not become "uniform" with the team. Think about it.

in reply to the comment of jersey_issue

there are rules in the UAAP and NCAA books regarding uniforms. interpretation is easy and not subjective. simply read them, follow them and implement the rules and punishment as warranted. remember the key words in the wrong uniform rule is "fielding into the court a player with the intention to play".

once a player is sent into the court to play, then all rules should now apply to the player. if a player sits it out the whole season due to injury or whatever reason, then the player has not been fielded into the game with the intention to play.

remember, basketball is a team sport, the action of one player affects the team as a whole.......

I would like to comment on you podcast, July 23, about the jersey issue of Ateneo. The Sponsor logo on the Ateneo jersey can be compared to taping the jersey with the number of an injured teammate. So that means that IF a team member puts it on his jersey and all others do not, should the team be penalized? Or IF all team members put it on their jersey and one does not, should the team be again penalized?

Ekwe's jersey is a different story because the guy did wear his season 83 jersey. Kirk and Burke wore season 71 jerseys without the sponsor patch. Should the team be penalized? If they are, then penalize teams putting injured player's numbers on their jersey.
