SAN SEBASTIAN coach Jorge Gallent finally had a win to savor in the 84th NCAA seniors basketball tournament.
The multi-titled coach in the semi-professional ranks led his Stags past Philippine Christian University, 71-64, last July 21, 2008 at the Pasay Astrodome.
“Nakaisa rin [We finally nailed one],” said Gallent. “We had a good start and I think that was a good investment in winning this game. We relaxed a bit in the second half, but we did our best making some stops in the fourth period.”
“Jim [Viray] played a superb game tonight and he made some crucial baskets in the second half.”
Viray finished with 21 points, 13 of which came in the second half as the Stags kept the Dolphins at bay. Teammate Franz Delgado scored all of his 10 points in the second period when the Stags made headway and built a commanding 47-31 halftime advantage.
Gallent, for his part, ably paced the nine men he fielded in against the Dolphins, who, despite outscoring the Stags, 33-24 in the second half, still fell short. The closest coach Joel Dualan’s squad could get was at 61-66 with 2:36 left in the fourth after a three-point play by Beau Belga.
Rookie playmaker Raymond Maconcido contributed 14 points, 12 of which came in the first half while the lanky Froilan Saquillo had 11 for the Stags, who improved their win-loss record to 2-4 and forge a tie with St. Benilde in sixth place.
Belga carried the fight for PCU, which dropped to 1-5, with 20 points, while Roger Busa added 12 markers. With Josef Ramos

congrats baste!! c”,)
congrats to pcu as well for they did their part as players. clean play palagi. also, i’m very proud of my friend, rogie busa (just wanna correct that his name is rogie & not roger) since that he’s always giving his very best in all games. kahit di ganun panalo ang pcu, you’ll really see na motivated xa at focused na magawa ang part nya… yun eh maka-puntos at magbigay ng part sa game. in every game ng pcu, you’ll see na palagi xa nakakapuntos. i’m really sure that he’ll make it sa future games sa ncaa… c”,)
pcu… kahit na wala ganun maxado panalo, basta clean play lang at have fun… c”,)
GOD BLESS sa lahat ng NCAA players.. c”,)
