CSB protest underway

In a closed door meeting with its own team officials, management, policy board and mancom representatives, the College of St. Benilde has finally made a decision on the fate of San Beda College’s uniform infraction issue.

After long hours of pondering, with a heavy heart, College of St. Benilde has decided to file a protest against San Beda College for the anomaly created by Red Lions center Sam Ekwe. CSB, beating the 48 working hour deadline, will formally and officially file the protest on July 22, 2008.

As you already know by now, Sam Ekwe donned the Season 83 version of the Red Lions white jersey during their game held last July 18, 2008.  The Red Lions overwhelmed the Blazers in that game with a 23 point margin, 74-51.

Once the protest is approved, the Blazers will improve to 3-3, while the Red Lions will drop to 4-1 leaving the Letran Knights the only unbeaten team in the tournament.

ang hirap kasi sa inyo, kayo na ang nag violate, kayo pa ang lakas ng loob magalit, like last year si aljamal na ang nagkamali, sinisi pa ninyo ang mancom. if you don’t like to play by the rules, then quit the game…by the way, i’m no greenie, just a neutral observer

^ Wait for Mancom’s decision you say?

Mancom through its chairman prepared the paperworks for the protest as stated by Mr. Mike Absalo in his previous article.

Now they are going to rule on the protest they prepared and instigated. Yeah, right, a fair decision is forthcoming.

Very clever. Very arbitrary. That’s the NCAA Mancom.

don’t you get it, a rule was violated, at nagkataon lang na CSB at SBC yung teams na sangkot. wala akong nakikitang pulitika against CSB dito. siguro sablay lang talaga yung implementation nung rule.

lawakan natin ang isip natin, we have to take nothing against CSB dito. basahin nyo second paragraph.. “After long hours of pondering, with a heavy heart, College of St. Benilde has decided to file a protest..” so ayan, diniin pa ng author na labag sa loob ng CSB yung protest.. nirequire lang sila ng MANCOM. ok ba yun? at kung walang gagawing action kasi ang MANCOM, para na rin nilang sinabi na pwede naman palang balewalain ung rules.

Maging fair naman tayo. Wag nyong tirahin ang CSB as the institution dahil wala naman kaming ginagawang masama. I believe this is the work of ManCom(no, not just or maybe not at all involving Henry Atayde). So please, police your comments and hinay hinay naman sa allegations. Feed your minds before running your mouths.

    red_cub,

FYI, it was not CSB who noticed the infraction so it is not fair to accuse them of scheming this win, if ever the protest is upheld.

One thing bothers me, though. How did the team (coaching staff and Ekwe) NOT notice Ekwe was wearing the wrong uniform? I have my own opinion but since I only have circumstantial evidence to back it up I will keep it to myself and not accuse others, so much unlike you.

as a person who supports the blazers for a long time, it’s really ridiculous and downright insulting to realize that people think that we would be jumping at the opportunity to get a win, one we didn’t deserve. we may not be the best team out there, but we commend and support the players for giving it their all. to say that the blazers threw out all the playbooks in order to “milk” circumstances for the win, smears whatever great improvements that coach gee and st. benilde have done over the course of this off season, and that is something that i can live with. believe me when i say no one truly proud to be from csb would willingly file that protest. it’s a lose-lose for benilde. if they lose the ruling — they got what they deserved and are just a bunch of whiners; if they win — they get a corresponding W with an asterisk. i honestly feel that this was a mancomm thing, more than anything. i just would like people to realize that and stop criticsizing csb for something they didn’t want in the first place.

Hahahaha.. malay mo.. with the help of the NCAA Mancom, that can be possible.. all if they have to do is keep checking for infractions and even if CSB doesn’t notice it, the NCAA Mancom can initiate the complains for them.. I wish we had someone like that who will look after us before, like 5 or 10 years ago, maybe we could’ve won a few games where the other teams had infractions that not noticeable for the whole game…

this is the other red_cub.. not the RedCub.. hehe..

well according to the newspapers, sabi ni Atayde, the CSB representative, not the writer of this article, that the complaint is already with the CSB President, so it’s up to the CSB President if they will submit the formal complaint to the NCAA Mancom…

(as i typed this on the other article, approved na pala ng CSB, they want this win! so they got it.. NCAA Mancom “sponsored” pa daw kamo eh.. bakit kailangan pa padaanin sa CSB President according to Atayde na kung hindi naman pala kailangan ang other team ang mag initiate ng complaint, it can come directly from the NCAA Mancom din pala.. that’s weird, i thought the complaint should come from the opposing team then sent to the NCAA Mancom who will “DECIDE” on the complaint.. pwede pala NCAA Mancom na mismo ang magco-complain at sila na din ang magde-decide! LOL! Ayos! pwede nyo ba i-decide na din kung pwede namin i-contest yung complain niyo? LOL! Anyway, it’s open to all that San Beda has been clashing with the NCAA Mancom for the past 2 years now, they’re just more open about it now and didn’t wait pa pala for CSB to complain, sila na mismo nag complain, at napilitan pa daw ang CSB tanggapin.. with a “heavy heart” daw sabi eh.. di ba, ibig sabihin nun, parang ayaw? hehehe.. para lang. lol)

i read the rules posted here and commented by Datu Pula.. the “intent to play” part is ridiculous.. the penalty should be lowered down to a technical and the other team should be rewarded only with a free throw.. you can only play with 5 players on each team and sometimes, after a time out or when the game starts, 6 players who all “intend to play” enter a court, it happens sometimes and the refs sometimes don’t catch it right away and when they do, they usually get a technical… NOT FORFEITURE OF THE GAME! fielding 6 players in your team on the court is far worse than having a misprint logo on one player’s uniform!

an untucked uniform is also considered not proper but the refs usually just remind the players to tuck their uniforms in, and i haven’t heard one get a technical for that, although they could… but again, the refs, even Frankie Lim said he didn’t notice it, he didn’t say that he should get away with it.. everybody here is thinking why the CSB people waited ’till the game was over, where they could have told the refs and the refs would’ve probably have given San Beda technical fouls where the CSB would be awarded only technical freethrows, and maybe not let Ekwe come back in without the “proper” uniform..

but I think CSB has been waiting to tell the refs because they’ve stopped reading their playbooks and started reading the NCAA law book and they saw that they could actually win the game by forfeiture and made sure about it and tell it when the refs or the officials could no longer do anything about it, and that is after the game… hehehe..

style niyo bulok! hehe.. lol.. but rules are rules and the CSB has outsmarted us on this one and caught us offguard, and of course, the NCAA Mancom just love following the rules, old rules like this one and newly made up rules like the 1 foreign player on the court rule, etc… CSB would get their win and they deserve it, they studied the NCAA rules carefully during the game (kaya nga sila lalo natambakan eh, ibang diskarte na pinag-aaralan nila), and they waited until the game was over (perfect timing!).. the refs would have no choice on the small infraction.. dito ako napabilib sa DLSU-CSB coaching/official staff at tinalo nila dito ang San Beda coaching staff.. meron hindi napansin ang San Beda coaching staff na napansin ng CSB side at nalaman nila kung kailan dapat sila umangal para mapanalo nila ang game.. LOL!

The greatest comeback in Philippine collegiate basketball history.

After trailing 51-74 to San Beda at the end of the fourth quarter, St. Benilde rallied to win the game in the “Fifth Quarter after it was proven that Sam Ekwe was ineligible to play.
