CSB protest underway

In a closed door meeting with its own team officials, management, policy board and mancom representatives, the College of St. Benilde has finally made a decision on the fate of San Beda College’s uniform infraction issue.

After long hours of pondering, with a heavy heart, College of St. Benilde has decided to file a protest against San Beda College for the anomaly created by Red Lions center Sam Ekwe. CSB, beating the 48 working hour deadline, will formally and officially file the protest on July 22, 2008.

As you already know by now, Sam Ekwe donned the Season 83 version of the Red Lions white jersey during their game held last July 18, 2008.  The Red Lions overwhelmed the Blazers in that game with a 23 point margin, 74-51.

Once the protest is approved, the Blazers will improve to 3-3, while the Red Lions will drop to 4-1 leaving the Letran Knights the only unbeaten team in the tournament.

    mak!

It wasn’t Ekwe’s fault. He reported his jersey stolen to the coaching staff who instructed him to wear the old uniform while they take care of the “problem.”

    rhk111,

Well, if you couldn’t understand something as simple as to what an “official uniform” is, then I guess it is too much to expect you to comprehend Mr Atayde’s judgment.

Henry Atayde’s FAULTY JUDGEMENT has so far only resulted in embarassment and mainly bad publicity for the CSB Blazers. Not to mention the fact, that his team has been losing.

If I were CSB, I’d get rid of him, before he brings the school into more controversies and embarassments due to his inability to make good judgements on behalf of the school.

Kick him out, before he does more damage to CSB.

    lkj,

You sure gave a lengthy explanation which, unfortunately, was not an answer to my simple question which I will ask again:

I take exception to your statement that “self serving ang protesta kasi tinago pa.”
How do you know that it was?

It’s a simple question so I expect a simple answer.

let the athletes have fun… wag na yung puro controversies… let them play… kaya nga nabuo ang ncaa para sa mga athletes natin… to let them harness their full potentials at para magdala ng honor sa kani-kanilang alma mater…

I think I pretty much explained and very clear on my view in the postings I made. I do favor the Bedans over the issue because they won the game, for us, it looks like just “a walk in the park win” asked the players and they will say it is a hard fought victory. 70 rebounds! And then steal that for a mere technicality not soooo obvious to be noticed. This is where I stand the result was settled in the hardcourt any other means to snatch that victory, to the posters and readers, any words and sentence you might want to add (try to make it nice)… I do agree. I do hope it will be a “sweet victory” for CSB , if your conviction is to be upheld, comparable on how the players of the Celtics, Archers and Lions felt when they won their games. I post here to add information and provide the other “side” of the issue. Nice day to everyone.

    D_Red_Eyed_Reindeer,

I said that consistently implementing the rules is for the good of the league.

What I am trying to say here, meron rule ang liga and to be effective meron syang timing when to implement it and my take is that it should be pointed out, like the wrong uniform, bago magsimula ang tip-off at sama mo na during the game itself. Read the example I made, do you think it will create havoc from other readers if this simple steps were followed? Kaya madaming galit na exploit yung rule by citing it tapos na at settled na ang laro.
When I said officials those are people recognized and given the authority inside the court kahit sino pa cya basta me ID at nasa proceeding ng games. SBC did not recognized the wrong uniform of ekwe, but if someone (lalo na dun sa naka notice) and I assume he is an official and present in the game he has the responsibility to raise the issue immediately and report to the commish or whoever is in charge of the game. Simple lang, what makes me say self serving ang protesta kasi tinago pa. If in this case (2nd example) during the actual game na and somebody pointed the uniform is wrong that’s the time Ekwe and the Coaching staff will know he is not allowed to play sigurado ilalabas yan at d ibabalik sa game unless he wears the proper one..if technical foul is needed so be it. If pinasok ulit cya without changing the uniform lahat will agree forfeited ang laro. Ekwe is in the official lineup and not in any other way deemed illegal to play until unless he is informed with the violation…kaya nga somebody with responsibility inside the court which in this case the “official” who noticed the violation should have pointed that out pronto. siguro tambak na when he noticed kaya umabot na sa ganito.
Ano take ng liga dito “how to win a game without really trying” a great lesson learned. And for those who will eventually favor the protest hats off for being a strict followers of the rule. Keep it up.

    @baller,

We Bedans know when to accept defeat and still hold their heads up high in front of anybody because we believe that real victory lies not on the final scores but on how hard you played the game. Yong final scores or even the championship trophy comes as a consolation as a result. My friends, especially from CSB, you should know this.

No offense to CSB, but to win like this is not what real champions are made of. Don’t be too proud of it that you get to lambast SBC and Ekwe in particular because of this. It will just bring to the surface the fickleness of your hearts and the narrowness of your thinking.

    I rest my case LDC.

You said it all yourself. This protest, I’m afraid, was presented not really for the interest of the League in general. I wouldn’t be surprised if the one who penned and wrote this rule would be the very same one egging CSB to file the protest. Kahiyain na kasi. Even if they know from a layman’s point of view that it was very shallow.

The first person I told this story, laughed his heart out because of its idiocy and stupidity. Mind you, he was neither a Bedan or from CSB. But he is an ex-PBA player. In other words, he is not bias, and knows his basketball.

To MANCOM: Don’t make the NCAA, the laughing stock of this basketball-crazed country. Be man enough to admit that something went wrong there. Put more specifics to that rule next time. Its too broad and too general in substance that two people can read exactly the same wordings and come up with different interpretations!
