The NBA gave us the lighter side of the game of Basketball

NBA Madness presented by Coca Cola – the NBA’s basketball lifestyle event that is in Manila for the seventh year in a row – took off the lid off its Grand Finals last Friday, July 11 at the Glorietta Activity Center with the special appearances by NBA celebrities led by New York Knicks Forward Malik Rose, the Sacramento Kings Dancers and Charlote Bobcats mascot Rufus Lynx.

Rose, who won two championship rings with the San Antonio Spurs in 1999 and 2003, thanked the National Basketball Association and partners Coca Cola, DHL, Monmilk, Basketball TV and the Philippine Star for bringing him to the Philippines and for seeing the Filipinos’ love for the game first-hand. Aside from playing basketball, he also plays the tuba, the trombone and the piano.

The Sacramento Kings Dancers put on a show for basketball-crazy fans with their captivating, high-stepping dance routine while the irrepressible Rufus Lynx warmed up the crowd and entertained them with his zany antics.

Another NBA “celebrity”, the much-coveted Larry O’Brien championship trophy came with the NBA entourage, courtesy of DHL, and was unveiled by Rose at a high point of the opening ceremonies. Rose, who arrived in Manila late Thursday night, also did several rounds of NBA fun challenges with members of the media.

NBA Madness 2008 was unleashed June 13 at Trinoma and brought NBA basketball mania to four other Ayala Malls: Bonifacio High Street (June 20-22), Market! Market! (June 28-29), Alabang Town Center (July 4-6) and Glorietta Activity Center (July 11-13). At the Madness, fans of all ages were able to experience authentic NBA experiences and compete for honor and prizes in several NBA basketball skills challenges.

The weekly champions of each competitions in the first four malls competed for the championship of their respective game categories at the final stop in Glorietta. The champions in each event got a chance to get up close and personal with Malik Rose, the Sacramento Dancers and Rufus Lynx at a special dinner.

NBA Madness Asia Tour returns for the second consecutive year and visits six countries and territories throughout the region. In addition to Manila, Philippines, the tour visited Seoul, Korea (July 4-6), and will visit Kaohsiung, Taichung and Taipei in Taiwan (August 15-31), Tokyo, Japan (August 29-31) Singapore (September 5-7) and Hong Kong (September 12-14).

NBA Madness Philippines was presented by Coca Cola. Among the partners are DHL and Monmilk. The official venue is the Ayala Malls. The Official Hotel is the Mandarin Oriental. The Official Suppliers are Adidas, Spalding and GLAMM.
