Tams stave off resurgent Adamson in nailbiter

JENS Knuttel is the new Mighty Mouse.
The sophomore Fil-German guard nailed a clutch trey to save the day for the Far Eastern Tamaraws as they snatched their opening day tiff from the Adamson Falcons, 74-71 in the 71st Season of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines at the Araneta Coliseum last July 5, 2008.
The former FEU-FERN stalwart broke a one-point deficit with 15 seconds left in regulation to wrestle the lead from the resurgent Falcons, who seemed to have taken control of the game in the second half after trailing much of the way in the first half.
Pacing the Tams was Reil Cervantes, who scored 15 points and grabbed six boards. Point guard Mark Barroca and forward JR Cawaling added 12 and 11 markers for the boys from Morayta.
The Tamaraws took early control of the game thanks to a 9-0 run in a five-minute stretch in the first period.
Adamson hit back with its own version of a 9-0 run also in the opening canto, cutting down FEU’s lead to three, 19-16. The Tamaraws took that advantage deep into the first quarter and extended it at the half thanks to Mac Baracael and Benedict Fernandez.
The Falcons, though, refused to roll over and took advantage of a low-scoring third quarter through point guard Paul Gonzalgo and big man Michael Galinato, who eventually topscored for his squad with 22 points and 11 boards.
Coach Leo Austria’s wards continued their onslaught in the fourth quarter, with Galinato controlling the paint. A crucial play with 4:25 left, however, seemed to have changed the complexion of the game. Adamson guard Aldrin Margallo was slapped with an unsportsmanlike foul on a driving Fernandez.
After that play, the Tamaraws managed to get back into the game, first through a 6-0 run and five Knuttel points, including the game-winning triple.
“Tsamba lang ung panalo [It was pure luck],� remarked FEU coach Glenn Capacio after the game. He said his team had a lot more to improve on, especially defensively, pointing out the easy baskets they gave to Adamson.

the game reminds me of the semi-final match of AdU vs UE sa FIL-OIL kung saan hindi nnman naipasok ni Jan Colina ung free throws nya.kung naipasok lang nya siguro yung free throws nya, it maybe change the outcome of the game.sa next games nila, dapat ilabas na si Colina pagdating ng final minutes para hindi na yun maulit.
