He was born on 08/13/88 and hails from Escalante, Negros Occidental. He honed his skills playing for Iloilo Chinese Commercial High School, a school well-known for its great basketball program and pedigree. PBA Superstars James Yap and Ken Bono heads the long list of basketball standouts the school has produced. The highly recruited Chien was named captain during his senior year, wherein he led his team to an unbeaten record in secondary basketball competetions in Visayas and Mindanao while grabbing championships and individual accolades along the way. His team also had a great run during the 2006 National Students' Basketball Championships wherein they placed 2nd. They dismantled the opposition, which included some UAAP and NCAA high schools, only to suffer their lone defeat against the controversial PCU Baby Dolphins squad in the championship match. He ended his high school career by leading Western Visayas to a 2nd place finish, behind the Borgie Hermida-led NCR, in the 2006 Palarong Pambansa. He already has one year of NCAA experience under his belt, playing for the runner-up Dolphins in Season 82. He was a key part of the Dolphins' rotation, primarily tasked to defend opposing key players such as San Beda's Pong Escobal in the finals and to bring some offensive firepower from off the bench. It’s just being unfair with those other sports event because they are really studying just to have scholarship and play in the league. While these men’s basketball players are just busy roaming around and sleeping in their dormitories. Some of them also fake their grades and medical just to play.. they’re just being unfair on players who really deserved to be lined up.
