A big weekend for UAAP Season 71

Well, this news aint earth shattering but rather a correction on what some dailies have reported so far. This is about the schedule of basketball games of the coming UAAP Season 71.
The season will open on July 5 Saturday at the Araneta Coliseum with the University of the Philippines hosting. And because UP is celebrating its’ 100 years of excellence, expect the Diliman community to come out in full force to top the magnificent opening UST did last season. In the meantime, the games on opening weekend will be as follows:
July 5 Saturday (Araneta Coliseum)
2PM FEU vs. Adamson University
4PM UST vs. UE
July 6 Sunday (Araneta Coliseum)
2PM UP vs. NU
4PM La Salle vs. Ateneo
Opening weekend will definitely be one weekend to remember, from the expected elaborate show to the games. A Slam-bang Affair, as one sports broadcaster will put it. This early, free beer should be given to this year’s host, University of the Philippines. Meanwhile, remaining games will be posted later as there are still some corrections to be made.
By the way, this season’s alternative venue for the basketball games are The Arena in San Juan and… (drum-roll please, then loud fan fare)… the Ninoy Aquino Stadium (NAS)!!! I don’t mean to belittle the NAS, but players, and teams for that matter had painful experiences there. Most of them were victims of theft, as locker room security in that venue in lax. Not to mention the floods when the rain comes during game day. Let’s just hope that the NAS people has addressed these problems.

ViVa Santo Tomas on Season 71!!!
Big suggestion: In the coming year 2011, that’s the Season 74 of the UAAP, the De La Salle University will celebrate it’s centennial anniversary (founded in 1911) while the University of Santo Tomas will have it’s Quadricentennial Celebration (est. 1611). what if these two giant universities will joint forces in that year to host the 74th UAAP Season in 2011? great idea right? still have 3 years for these two giant schools to talk about these said event and it will be great if these catholic institutions will combine to host that season… di malabong mangyari to! :D
as of now, they must focus first in their own business but they can start the negotiation as early as now. :D

Let’s see… The opening games of the 71st UAAP Season is exciting. I love College Basketball, and Since UP will host the 2008-2009 season, I’m expecting that a big success for the 100-year old university. Syempre… Papanuorin ko ang opening ceremonies kasi 1st time ko mapapanuod ang UP hosting it,, (from 2002-present, Im following the UAAP Basketball Season) and I start it by observing the Opening Ceremonies…

Ateneo will still be a contender this season but I’m not sure if theey’ll be able to get the championship. But I’m pretty sure they’ll be creating a dynasty since they’ve managed to get the best batch of rookies in the whole Philippines. The four most sought after: Buenafe, Salva, Chua and Burke, will be a dominating lineup maybe starting next year. But as of now, they’ll get nominal minutes.

@Ron, I believe IPEA is doing something about it. As you may know, they usually conduct a program at the UST gym on the first day of PE for 1st year students to make them fully aware about UAAP, the Tigers, the cheers, SDT and YJs.

SANTO TOMAS has a pretty strong line-up this Season. Actually, they were the only team that didn’t release the final line-up yet but there’s a news that they get De La Salle-Zobel star point-guard Jeric Fortuna and the best high school shooter Clark Bautista from the Benedictine School.
Also don’t forget that Dylan Ababou, Chester Taylor both have a great improvements and exposure during the PBL Season as well reigning MVP Jervy Cruz who play well during the 24th SEA Games during the off-season. And also don’t forget about the “Golden Gun” 6′5 SG/SF Khasim Mirza.
Not ateneo but SANTO TOMAS is the team to watch this season especially that they were so hungry to reclaim the prestigious men’s seniors basketball crown!

nung kami sa SANTO TOMAS ang host last year, almost all games sa Araneta. I think 3 times lng hindi naglaro sa Araneta last season & the rest ng 2nd round panay dun na… langya talaga naman oh!!!
iba talaga pag either ATENEO, SANTO TOMAS or LA SALLE ang hosts, may sistema at organize di tulad ng up, sa venue palang olats at bulok na!!! kainis… ang hina pa ng air-con sa ultra, baka magkastampede pa! haha…

para sa mga nagpu-push ng UAAP-NCAA merger lalo na kay G. Manny Pangilinan: take note that UAAP/NCAA is not basketball alone… there are a lot of other sporting activities which is not limited only to basketball. kung mag-memerge tong dalawang institution na to, pati yung ibang sports event damay of course take note of that…
i’m not in favor of the merger of these two league for the reason that each league has their own tradition to preserve and sabi nga, madadamay din yung ibang sports event like swimming, volleyball, taekwondo and others… there are some sports na present sa UAAP but i think hindi kasali sa NCAA. magiging magulo lang yan at unang maapektuhan niyan is yung mga athletes.
better to create a separate league na kung saan top 4 NCAA/UAAP teams will collide parang format ng CCL. remember ACC and PAC-10 in US, two different leagues tapos yung top teams magmi-meet sa march madness ng NCAA National Championship.
that’s my opinion to the call of Mr. Pangilinan…

kung malawak utak ng mga Pilipino mas mahalaga yung pagbabago sa systema ng basketball dito sa pilipinas kaysa sa mga “tradition” na yan. pang mga saradong utak yung mga ganyang rason. tska yung tradition nakabase sa eskwela hindi sa liga, tignan mo Adamson o kaya Perpetual may tradition ba yan?
tska yung term na “merger” hindi bagay kasi hindi naman yung liga (NC or UAAP) pagsasamahin, basketball lang. dapat ang term “LABANAN PARA MAGKAALAMAN KUNG SINO TALAGA MAGALING”.
Ang totoong rason lang diyan kung bakit ayaw ng UAAP ang pagtuloy ng bakbakan na yan dahil sa CRAB MENTALITY. Eh diba sila nga yung mas sikat bakit nila isasali yung NCAA teams edi sumikat din sila tska ok na sila sa status quo!
Kung di ka ba naman PINOY na PINOY eh. Sa basketball pa lang makikita na kung bakit hindi naunlad pinas. Hahahaha.

i don’t think makaka14-0 pa yung UE sa lakas ng line-up ng ibang teams, knowing pa na andami rin mawawala s knila this season (just an opinion).
i think ang malalakas na teams this year: DLSU, UST, ADMU and FEU. feeling ko ito rin yung nasa final 4.
about the alternative venue… hmmm… hmmm… why UP?? why??? hahahaha!!! nakakaawa naman yung audience. last year almost all games nasa araneta!!! bkit nmn may san juan arena? pang NCAA yun di ba? hay. *sad*

In my own opinion, the samahang basketball ng pilipinas should merged all of the collegiate leagues into one league like the NCAA in the US here in the metro for all of the schools must be given exposures on television. A lot of players from different institution are good in playing basketball.
schools like EAC has produced a good player like Ronjay Buenafe, the De Ocampo brothers, Ervin Sotto, Chris Pacana, & Vergara from St. Francis of Assisi College system, Wynnie Arboleda of MLQU and the rest of the players who are now playing in the PBL comes from NAASCU, CUSA, NCRAA/UCAA etc.
The SBP should established a new collegiate league that will give more exposures to all cagers from different Colleges & Universities.

wag muna kau masyado magmayabang sa mga schools nio. hindi pa naman ngsisimula ang uaap may mga final 4 na agad. i’m not against sa mga pang-chicheer,etc. it’s just that maxado atang confident ung iba lalo na ung mga tga admu at dlsu. We’ll never know, bka bumaliktad ang mundo, bka ung mga inaasahang mananalo eh bglang matalo. di ba? :)

Red and White na din pala sinisigaw ng UE. The school was using a different color then.
Before it was UE Warriors, then they added the red. Now its red and white! Why don’t you include animo in your cheers para completo na. Animo UE!

It’s so funny how warriors on the road bash on DLSU too much. Still haven’t got over your loss? Poor you. Just so you know, the school of green and white is not a cheater. It just so happened that your school, your “RED AND WHITE” school toppled over in two consecutive crucial games. Oh well, can’t blame you anyway. ‘coz you guys have already assumed the crown that eventually slipped off your hands in the end. Now that’s so sad. :(

well personally, i am not very impressed with buenafe… yet!
he’s good but i expected more from him considering all the publicity his recruitment got
im impressed by salva though. he looks like a young jc intal to me when he plays. he’s very gutsy and “madiskarte”
justin chua i have yet to see shine. maybe its because rabeh still gets more playing time than he does. though both of them would really have to be more dominating in the paint if they would be effective against the other teams

on the issue of the “merger” - i have always maintained that the best arguement against it is that it would take even more study time away from the children who are supposed to be students first & foremost than athletes
there are already a lot of student-athletes having a hard time managing their time with their participation in uaap or ncaa… what more if the tournament would involve more teams and more games.
think of the kids first before battling for pride, profit and what not…
dont you think their student life is more important over anything else??????????????

To Emperor Vegito: It would be unfair for La Salle if they won’t be able to host the UAAP 74 alone in their centennial year. You had already your chance to host the UAAP 70, and it would be too soon for you to host a UAAP season anew in 2011. Albeit it is a good suggestion, it could be viewed with bias not only for La Salle but for other schools.
To those who keep on bashing La Salle, like they would do anything (even cheating) just to win. I think you are all just bitter because they were vindicated from their suspension last Season 69. If they have cheated before, they did everything to make legal actions in response to the issue. La Salle actually was honest enough. Will other universities be able to do what La Salle did. I doubt. And in the first place, all schools have cheated in their own ways. It just so happened that La Salle disclosed the issue, and did the right actions.
To Ateneo: We can do this! Let’s make our share in cheering our school all the way to the championship!
To La Salle: Ateneo is looking forward to having a great match with the green Archers. Sabi nga nila: “The World Cup without Brazil is like UAAP without La Salle!”

partida, wala na sina borboran at gregorio..but still, the warriors managed to beat the tigers knina!! it’s a great game. wla naman taung mgagawa eh,. my matatalo, my mananalo. hidi naman pwedeng lhat panalo, right? at yang pandadaya thingy n yan, how sure are you na my pandadaya rin n gngawa ang ibang schools?? now you are saying my daya n rin ang iba just because of dlsu’s suspension last season ‘69?? oh c’mon people!! get over it!!
