The Philippine Collegiate season is just around the corner. FilOil Flying V Sports will once again organize a preseason tournament slated to start on April 13, 2008 at the Arena in San Juan.

“FilOil is committed to sports development. The NCAA and UAAP carries within a natural sense of school spirit. And with that brings a sense of competitiveness that only both these leagues can offer to all the Collegiate Basketball fans, according to Dave Dualan, the man behind the FilOil Flying V preseason tournament.

16 teams have been invited but only 15 will join. Last years suspended NCAA member school, Philippine Christian University (PCU) is the lone team that will probably skip the tournament.

Flying V has divided the participating teams into 2 groups. The 1st group will comprise, Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles, Far Easter University Tamaraws, Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers, Mapua Institute of Technology Cardinals, National University Bulldogs, San Beda Red Lions, and the University of the East Red Warriors.

The 2nd group will include, Colegio San Juan de Letran Knights, College of St. Benilde Blazers, De La Salle Green Archers, Adamson Falcons, University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons, University of Perpetual Help Altas, San Sebastian College-Recoletos Golden Stags and the University of Sto. Tomas Growling Tigers.

The defending UAAP champs, De La Salle Green Archers, took home the coveted preseason tournament prize against defending NCAA Champions, San Beda Red Lions. The UE Red Warriors defeated the NU Bulldogs in the battle for 3rd.

The 1st two matches of the tournament will be against former NCAA teams, Ateneo Blue Eagles going against the Letran Knights and for the main event, it will be the De La Salle Green Archers versus the San Beda Red Lions.

On going negotiations for live broadcasts of the games are in the works and ABS-CBN has been tapped by FilOil Flying V to do the coverage of this year’s preseason tournament.

    &&%^%*&(&&*!

    Talagang pinagpipilitang magsamasama ng mga ito. Ateneo-Letran tapos La Salle-San Beda? Obvious ba.

    Magsamasama na lang kasi kayong puro school pride lang. Gumawa na lang kayo ng sariling liga!

    that would be interesting! schools will definitely be parading players that will suit up for this year’s uaap and ncaa season.

    @TigerPack

    chill out, dude! your comments reflect your bitterness toward schools which are realistically more popular than yours. go and see a shrink!

    Why Studio 23 as a broadcaster? Ayaw ba nina Virgil ang BTV?

    When Skycable pulled the plug on BTV…and the expected switching to Destiny…I guess you can read thru the analysis. In other words, ABS-CBN still hold the aces.

    And as for Tiger, from an entertainment standpoint, it would be ineresting indeed from a “basketball tradition” perspective. For now that’s what I think.

    Kahit ano pang bracket ang mga teams, basta ang importante may isa na namang tournament na pwede tayo panoorin mga die-hard basketball fans. Just hope UST will win the tournament this time although the field is highly competetive.

    though i feel that “business” move by abs-cbn was done in bad taste, im sure it will do justice to its coverage of the tourney by having good “visuals” and good commentators.

    from an entertainment standpoint, it would be ineresting indeed from a “basketball traditionâ€? perspective. - you’re right! the opening games would strategically market and sell the tournament to the public.

    isn’t basketball supposed to be about enjoying the sport instead of bashing other schools?

    @TigerPack -i’m a fan of ust but i’m not bitter towards the “enemies” or rather the OPPONENTS. tsk. you’re putting our alma mater to shame. hindi ganyan ang Thomasians.. peace out..

    Letran vs Ateneo vs Sanbeda vs La Salle…wow… would have been a dream come true if the unified NCAA-UAAP season happened.

    Now we can only watch what might have been in the Filoil tournament.

    Good thing, ABS-CBN is carrying the games. I don’t have basketball TV as I’ve not gone to over to Destiny. Otherwise, I’ll miss the games if the show is carried by Solar TV.

    @major dude - maybe what tigerpack means is that in group 1, bakit magkakasama ang old school rivals? para naman yatang hindi balanced ang seeding or grouping for that matter..

    I was thinking about why not make the old rivals (san beda vs. ateneo and letran vs. lasalle) face each other in the opening games, but then i realized, mukhang mas mainit nga kung may beda vs. lasalle (the champs) game.

    @mykstan - do i need to say more. please read the article again and his post. check also the other threads (NCAA-UAAP merger comments). my point here is that lets not make hate threads or deragotary remarks and comments that will start word war in the forums.

    everything tigerpack posted is taken in context as this was what he meant and felt or feels. nothing more, nothing less. also, the article stated that Ateneo and San Beda are bracketed in Group 1 while La Salle and Letran are in Group 2. Its crossover for the opening games: Ateneo vs. Letran and San Beda vs. La Salle.

    i think it doesn’t matter which brackets the 4 big rivals as long as our school players, do their best winning their respective teams…

    kahit 2 teams ko maglalaban sa 1st game!! hehehe

    Arriba Ateneo!! Go Letran!!! hehe

    Broadcasting the Preseason Tournament will now be in the hands of Basketball TV/IBC 13. Somehow the talks with the previous network fell short. There will be a press conference on March 11, 2008. We will keep you posted.
