The Philippine Collegiate season is just around the corner. FilOil Flying V Sports will once again organize a preseason tournament slated to start on April 13, 2008 at the Arena in San Juan.

“FilOil is committed to sports development. The NCAA and UAAP carries within a natural sense of school spirit. And with that brings a sense of competitiveness that only both these leagues can offer to all the Collegiate Basketball fans, according to Dave Dualan, the man behind the FilOil Flying V preseason tournament.

16 teams have been invited but only 15 will join. Last years suspended NCAA member school, Philippine Christian University (PCU) is the lone team that will probably skip the tournament.

Flying V has divided the participating teams into 2 groups. The 1st group will comprise, Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles, Far Easter University Tamaraws, Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers, Mapua Institute of Technology Cardinals, National University Bulldogs, San Beda Red Lions, and the University of the East Red Warriors.

The 2nd group will include, Colegio San Juan de Letran Knights, College of St. Benilde Blazers, De La Salle Green Archers, Adamson Falcons, University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons, University of Perpetual Help Altas, San Sebastian College-Recoletos Golden Stags and the University of Sto. Tomas Growling Tigers.

The defending UAAP champs, De La Salle Green Archers, took home the coveted preseason tournament prize against defending NCAA Champions, San Beda Red Lions. The UE Red Warriors defeated the NU Bulldogs in the battle for 3rd.

The 1st two matches of the tournament will be against former NCAA teams, Ateneo Blue Eagles going against the Letran Knights and for the main event, it will be the De La Salle Green Archers versus the San Beda Red Lions.

On going negotiations for live broadcasts of the games are in the works and ABS-CBN has been tapped by FilOil Flying V to do the coverage of this year’s preseason tournament.

Broadcasting the Preseason Tournament will now be in the hands of Basketball TV/IBC 13. Somehow the talks with the previous network fell short. There will be a press conference on March 11, 2008. We will keep you posted.
