Growling Tigers make mincemeat of Red Lions, earn F4

In this jungle, tigers are better than Lions.
UST took advantage of San Beda’s awful endgame performance on the way to the Final Four after squeezing out an emotional 88-84 win last November 19, 2007 in the quarterfinals stage of the Flying V National Collegiate Champions Cup.
Down by five entering the last quarter, 65-70, the Growling Tigers shocked the whole crowd at the Arena in San Juan City by outscoring the Red Lions in the fourth period, 23-14, to just sit back and relax as they await the winner between Jose Rizal University and Ateneo in the semifinals.
UST head coach Pido Jarencio praised his boys – particularly his usual UAAP starters –for displaying tough basketball despite the intimidating presence of the reigning back-to-back NCAA champions.
“I can’t say anything more about my players,â€? said Jarencio. “They played great even we started the game badly”. It is not how you start it but how you finish.â€?, he added.
6-foot-6 70th UAAP MVP Jerby Cruz, joining the SEAG-bound RP team this December, out-dueled counterpart Samuel Ekwe at the low post by leading UST with 21 points and hauling down 15 rebounds.
“He is really tall and strong but i took the challenge, said Cruz. “We played as a team and I think that was our key to victory.
The UST Growling Tigers used a decisive 17-7 run, capped by the 7 and 6 points from Dylan Ababou and Cruz, respectively, to turn their fortunes around, 80-77, with 3:30 minutes left in the game after Mark Canlas’ two straight baskets.
In the last three minutes, the Red Lions could only score 4 points as attempts by Pong Escobal and Rogemar Menor, with 22 and 19 points respectively, to recover the game for San Bedafailed and cost them the game.
Japs Cuan, had nine points and nine assists, proved to be steadier at the foul line at the last 36 seconds, by nailing four free throws to peg the final count.
“He is practicing very hard by taking a lot of attempts from the free throw line each day, said Jarencio. “And its giving us outstanding results.
Ababou racked up 17 points and grabbed 7 boards, while Francis Allera and Anthony Espiritu had 12 and 11 points, respectively.
The Growling Tigers fought very hard in the rebounding department, 52-50, and shared the ball more than the Red Lions, 21-14.
UST started lame, finishing first quarter at 18-22, but it went out 29-20 in scoring at the 2nd period to gain the upper-hand at halftime, 47-42.
San Beda outscored UST, 28-18, in the third period to get back on track at the start of the final period, 70-65.
“This game will be a lesson for us, said Frankie Lim, the Red Lions mentor, who also drew 21 points and 12 rebounds from playmaker Borgie Hermida. “UST played tough game against us.
Samuel Ekwe had 12 points, 11 rebounds and 4 blocks for San Beda.
Individual scores:
UST 88–Cruz 21, Ababou 17, Allera 12, Espiritu 11, Cuan 9, Mirza 7, Canlas 6, Cortez 3, Taylor 2, Basa 0, Badua 0, Gile 0, Dizon 0.
SAN BEDA 84–Escobal 22, Hermida 21, Menor 19, Ekwe 12, Gamalinda 4, Taganas 2, Marcelo 2, Lanete 2, Maggay 0.
Quarter scores: 18-22, 47-42, 65-70, 88-84

I was actually hoping for an Ateneo/San Beda match. I wanted to see how the Ateneo line up this year would fare against the NCAA champions. Instead San Beda lost to UST.
Oh well. I guess its the Eagles against the Tigers again. UST still has a score to settle after the “Long” shot and their eventual elimination via Ateneo.
Interesting. Go Ateneo. OBF!

La Salle lacks Identity. That is a fact all these years…
Excuses?
No Bedan is offering an excuse.
If you are referring to Ekwe, this guy is not an import. He is a Bedan more than anything else. In Academic competition, there is no such thing as “import.” True, He is Nigerian, but he is also a Bedan.
Transfer to UAAP? Hmmm.. Thanks for the advice but San Beda will decide eventually and no Jerk like you will stop the school from making a decision.
You La Sallites have always been the same all this years…. You have no sense of Identity. You try to rival with Ateneo because of the class status, but you also try to identify with the mainstream MASA whenever you guys are isolated.
La Salle is “Pa-Class lite,” or “Masa-lite”
We have professors who are also teahcing in La Salle and you don’t want to hear what they have to say about you guys..
All you guys are about money in your pockets handed by your parents. Nothing more, Nothing less.
Ateneans have their Identity. I hate them but such is their charecter and It is really a fact.
They know who they are. We Bedans, we know who we are. We can associate with people from all walks of life and we love to be identified with the general MASA.. But you La Sallites are always lost.
Try Establish an Identitiy first, then we’ll talk.

Excuses, excuses…
1. Nawala daw si Aljamal,
2. Physical daw ang laro
3. Hindi sineryoso
4. Nagpatalo daw talaga SBC kase nakalimutan na nila ang feeling nang matalo…
5. and the list goes on and on…
Pa-import import pa kayo..hanggang NCAA lang talaga kayo.
Tsk tsk tsk.. FALSE PRIDE talaga ang tinuturo sa inyo… KARMA!!!! KARMA!!!! KARMA!!!!!
ANIMO IS LA SALLE!

Can we not live in peace? Have our respective Christian Schools failed us all? The Jesuits, Christian Brothers, Benedictines and Dominicans?
I request inboundpass.com to take a more resposive role in the promotion of sportsmanship and friendship especially among CATHOLIC SCHOOLS.
There is nothing to be gained from hatred.
It’s almost Christmas. This is just basketball. Let’s live in peace.
Pax!
P.S.
Congratulations again, UST! A salute to the Growling Tigers!

WTF?!
Akala ko kakayanin ng FEU yun pala tatalunin pala sila ng mga ilang NCAA drop-outs,katulad nila Mark Balneg from Letran,si Tiongco from Mapua and si Flor from JRU.

pareng rodix, walang kwenta, halaga at silbi ang Grrr! na yan…walang-wala talaga..walang-walang utak..hehehe…we bedans acknowledge that basketball talent springs everywhere..i agree that madami ding magagaling na players from the south just as there are a good number of great players here in manila or whatever part of the country…nagkakatalo nga lang talaga sa teamwork ang different teams at sa breaks ng games, not to mention their will to win…huwag na nating intindihin ang Grrr! na iyan…sabi ko nga basura yang Grrr! na yan….
good luck on the teams from the south..may they have a fruitful campaign….
