Growling Tigers still on track for F4

The University of Santo Tomas is now in third place with a 7-5 slate after an effortless win over the University of the Philippines, 77-61, at the Araneta Coliseum last September 2.
Jervy Cruz and Anthony Espiritu pitched in for 16 points apiece while Dylan Ababou contributed 10 points for the Growling Tigers.
Meanwhile, VJ Serios was the only Fighting Maroon in double digits with 15 points and 11 rebs.
UST enjoyed an 11-point lead in the first quarter, 19-8.
Soc Rivera nailed a three-pointer with 6:10 minutes to play to cut the lead to nine, 27-18. Khasim Mirza answered back with an 18-footer for a 12-point advantage, 30-18.
Anthony Espiritu made back to back three-pointers to increase their lead to 17 points for UST, 40-23. The Fighting Maroons bounced back courtesy of Serios’s two FGs, 43-27 before the halftime break.
The Growling Tigers maintained their advantage in the third quarter. Francis Allera’s jumper with 3:40 minutes to play extended their lead to 22 points, 57-35.
Final baskets from Woody Co and Vicmel Epres ended the third period , 61-47, with UST still on top.
In the final quarter, Magi Sison’s basket from behind the arc and a 2/2 FT by Co at the 3:23 minute mark cut the lead to 11 points, 66-55. But Mirza, Ababou and Espiritu’s baskets made it a 17-point lead, 75-58.
Martin Reyes’ final three-pointer could only reduce the Maroons’ deficit to 12 points for a 77-61 loss.
“Target ko manalo ung last two games,� said Coach Pido Jarencio.
The Tigers Coach said he is still not thinking about the final four. His boys are still yet to win their remaining games before they start thinking who they will face in the final stage this season.
Meanwhile, the Fighting Maroons are still looking for win no.1.
