Patrick Cabahug and Roel Hugnatan combined for 43 points but fell short as the Ateneo Blue Eagles exterminated the Adamson Falcons, 81-68, at the Cuneta Astrodome last September 1.

“I am very happy we won the game, said Coach Norman Black.

Nonoy Baclao topped the Blue Eagles’s tally sheet with 14 points and 7 rebounds while Chris Tiu and Ford Arao chased in with 13 points apiece.

Both teams started squarely but Ateneo went ahead of the Falcons when the first quarter ended, 25-10. Clifford Arao pitched in for 7 points for the Blue Eagles in the first period.

In the second quarter, Hugnatan and Alvarez nailed a total of 15 points to outscore the Blue Eagles with a single point, 19-18 before the first half. But Ateneo remained on top with a 14-point advantage, 43-29.

Ateneo’s game became sloppy after the first half but the Falcons’ efforts are just not enough. Cabahug led the way for Adamson with 18 points in the second half.

Cabahug and the rest of the Falcons went pungent and cut their deficit to nine, 48-57, in the third quarter.

But Ateneo bounced back in the final period to extend their margin to 13 points, 81-68.

The Blue Eagles overpowered the Falcons, getting 16 turnover points as compared to Adamson’s 9 points turnover points. Ateneo shot 75% from the Free Throw area. However Adamson was more efficient inside the paint with a 60.53 percentage shooting.

Coach Norman Black admitted that they had a difficult time against Adamson.

“A lot of teams have become stronger (in the second half), he said. “I just want to make it to the final four. We don’t want to end up tied with UST and FEU.

Ateneo is now a game ahead of University of Santo Tomas at 7-4.
