Animo Explained
After reading all your posts about the word Animo, I felt that it may be about time to get some first hand info from someone who was atually playing in the NCAA in the 1940s. You may find some links and have your opinions but still nothing beats first hand information.
Explaining what Animo meant to them in the 1940s is Mr. Eduardo “Mendy” Mendieta, the team captain of the 1947 - 48 NCAA Champion La Salle Seniors Basketball Team.

Hi Rektikano,
I already apologized for using the word BOBO, and let me just clear that that wasn’t meant for you, la salle nor for all students of la salle. It was only for animo lasalle. and i admit i was so wrong for saying that. hehehe.
Pero paano naman napasok ang “pasosyalan” dito? Easy ka lang dude… Bedans are not like you guys, kung gusto nyo magpakita ng yaman ng mga estudyante nyo we don’t care.
We stay as humble as we can. In the first place I’ve never mentioned anything about wealth here. ikaw lang naka-isip nyan. don’t be insecure.
To Animo Lasalle,
Bro, i know i insulted your intellectual capacity too much but don’t take it so seriously. may pagka pointless pa rin yung mga posts mo against me (hehehe!), pero just to quit this stupidity, id be humble to say sorry first (since im the one who started it all.)..
Again from the bottom of my heart, i am really sorry.
PAX! :)
but admit it masaya naman makipagtalo paminsan minsan diba? hahaha!
PEACE! ANIMO LASALLE, DONT FORGET WHAT YOU ALWAYS SAY…
“LIVE JESUS IN OUR HEARTS…FOREVER”
and we Bedans always say…
“ut in omnibus glorificeteur Deus.”
“That in all things, God may be glorified.”
Good night. sleep tight! God Bless us all. PEACE Brothers in Christ!

To Red,
Why are you so affected? Why Stress BOBO on De La Salle? I think you are such a pathetic looser because youre putting another school down instead of climbing up the ladder clean.
We are not calling you names because its not so diplomatic and unbecoming of a cultured and well educated person, Since you mentioned we are BOBO, why dont you ask the people around you, and how you call yourselves? we all know people from DLSU and all the 18 districts of DLSP are filthy rich, we didnt brag that, we all know that schools more like your school are A bunch of LOW FORMS OF LIFE. Did we say anything about that? No we didnt. By the way, if you wanna join the banters between our close competitor ADMU and Us, DLSU just to be cool or in a way, step up the ladder, kc puro sosyal ang mga school na to, well brother am telling you, you are way behind us and never can you compare your school to DLSU not even to ADMU. So the best thing you can do? STAY AWAY AND KEEP YOUR FEET OFF between GREEN AND BLUE.
PEACE!
ANIMO ATENEO
ANIMO LA SALLE
LIVE JESUS IN OUR HEARTS…. FOREVER!

Well i guess i got too much affected by this animo lasalle. Sorry for overstressing the word “BOBO” haha!
please FORGIVE ME!, anyway baranggay election na bukas. Let there be peace on earth.
PAX!
like what Genom, Ramirez and other Bedans in this page say, whether a Bedan, Lasallian/lasallite, or Atenean, nobody owns the word ANIMO, it’s just that some of us forget what it really means, and some of our younger generations invent stories like they invented the word and it’s like they own it and have more right to use it.
I guess the most important lesson here is: “know your history”
especially the young lasalistas (admit it.)

lol!
look eagle. i’ve nothing against every lasalistas or any atenean. if you read all my posts, i’m only against animo lasalle’s posts. i’m sure that’s very clear to every readers, except you.
i was really expecting any from delasalle who would defend or support animo lasalle’s posts, but then there you came, so i assumed you are a lasalista pretending to be an atenista, or animo lasalle himself pretending to be an atenean… well if you really are an atenean, i’ve got nothing against you and in the first place i wouldnt convince my self that an atenean would put himself in between this situation.
PAX!

Imbento namin yang salitang yan. Turo yan sa amin ng mga Seniors kaya mas maniniwala ako sa kanila.
May research pang nalalaman ang mga bum e alam naman ng lahat na Animo means La Salle.
Push the Limit, Animo Spirit!
>>Imbento nyo pala yung animo?
saka alam ng lahat na Animo means lasalle?!?
ows? kung “alam ng lahat na animo means lasalle bakit ako hindi ko alam?
wala kang alam sa philosophy o logical thinking ano? napaghahalataan kasi ang kabobohan mo.

to everyone, there are some lasalistas who claim that “Animo” means “La Salle” and proof is this shirt which says ..”Push the limit..Animo Spirit!”…i have no problem with that..i mean they perfectly have a right to do as they please..and i respect that..however, the present La Sallites will have to admit to themselves that they have in a way ventured into some “deviation” (or should i say “IMBENTO”) as opposed to the REGULAR, NORMAL and PROPER usage of the word…again, La Sallians have that right..and I RESPECT that..but that does not mean we can’t be critical about it..WE ALSO HAVE THAT RIGHT especially when there clearly are valid reasons to do so(like the arrogance and stupidity of most of the new green breed..hehehe…)…the last time i checked, we are a democracy…

if the present generation of worthy la sallites (who are outnumbered by those of the non-sense kind to which BOBONG bluevultures belongs…hehehe…) claim that they have come up with an “innovative” meaning of the word “animo”..if they have this so-called “La Sallian brand” of the said word now, then i guess they contradict what their elders have said about the meaning of the word as old La Sallians used it in the early days of the NCAA..if my memory serves me right, there was this former cheerleader from the green school who stated that “animo” means courage in spanish..so which is which? I hope La Salle comes up with their official stand on this to clear the air..it will especially help the present breed of lasalistas avoid being confused..again, dun sa BOBONG si bluevultures, “TANGA K FOR ETERNITY!!!!!”….hehehehe

To bluevultures…
basahin mo kaya yung explanation dun sa site nung gumawa nung t-shirt n mali yung nakasulat (Push The Limit, Animo Spirit!)
They even admitted it sa dulo
n mali yung pagkakagamit ng word
Sabi nila, LaSalle is a registered name, so they changed it to ANIMO…
They even said “nagwork nmn db?!”
What does that mean?!
Db admission yun ng pagkakamali nila sa paggamit ng word….?!

The best solution to a simple question of “Animo”. I’m glad this came from a Bedan.
I hope everyone is happy already.
Here’s a site for Bedans and non-Bedans alike. Pretty much explains some of the important Bedan tradition.

Guys ganito lang yan, De La Salle transformed the word animo into a brand. They basically took a word that means courage or spirit in its original usage and made it an extension of their school’s identity. No harm, no foul. In fact they probably are the first to do so. Meaning that they were the first to declare that Animo means the La Salle. (The closest equivalent is Arriba Letran. Dugong Arriba is Letran.) They were the first to use it as a brand.
This, however, does not mean that they were the first to use or that they own the word animo. That would be absurd because this word was likely used by Spanish-speaking Filipinos way before DLSU’s foundation. In fact, it is still being used by Spanish- speaking people today.
Again it all boils down to usage. For San Beda it means courage or have courage. To the Atenistas it means spirit. Finally, for La Salle, Animo is the La Sallian brand.
¡Animo San Beda!

I concur sir! Like I said to red a while ago… to each his own! We can’t change people’s opinions by simply posting here in this site, let’s just stand to what me believe and cheer our hearts out in every game… I believe it all goes down to who cheers the loudest and the proudest, now that’s real ANIMO!

you don’t mind pala, eh ano yung inaangal ni animo la salle, may sinasabi pa syang “kahiyaan nalang”… kahit anong explanation mo, redundant parin yung cheer nyo. if animo=spirit, redundant yung sinisigaw nyo na “animo spirit”, if animo=la salle, yung “animo la salle” nmn yung inuulit.
and another thing, so kung ok lng pla gumamit ng non-english word sa english phrases kahit na minimissuse mo yung salita, pwede ko palang sabihin na,”you are a stupid bobo?”
