FAR Eastern University cruised to its second straight win by nipping Philippine Christian University, 85-73, in the Fil-Oil Flying V preseason invitational cup on Friday at the Arena in San Juan City.
“The players have turned perfectly on their defense and scoring capabilities, said incoming FEU head coach Glenn Capacio. “We have to keep this kind of game to become successful.
Power forward Marnel Baracael started the onslaught by tallying nine of his 19 points in the opening quarter in addition to his 11 rebounds and four assists to hand the Dolphins their fourth defeat in five games.
The Tamaraws controlled the entire game from beginning till end. Baracael’s three-point play ignited a 12-2 blast for FEU’s 22-8 lead with 3:12 to go in the first quarter.
They continued the same performance in the second quarter where Mark Barroca scored on a lay up with 2:15 to go before halftime for a 39-28 count.
The Dolphins tried to narrow the gap to 45-40 early in the final frame after an 8-2 run. But their turnovers in the third quarter gave the Tamaraws reasons to double its lead at the start of the fourth quarter, 71-54. From there, the Tamaraws were miles away from the Dolphins’ offensive.
Guard Riel Cervantes added 12 points, while Mark Barroca and Paul Sanga contributed nine points apiece. Marlon Busa led PCU with 19 points.
